I have a lot of empathy for Kev. It must a shit show and I can’t imagine how tough it was to do so without a CEO for 6 months.
Im not attacking Kev’s character, or even the results. I just don’t like any of his tactical moves so far this season (outside of the Panthers game plan). Hopefully if he gets enough smart operators around him, he can just focus on being passionate and building culture because he is struggling in most other facets so far.
Hopefully a good enough roster and club structure will be put in place that the head coach doesn’t need to be a superstar to succeed. Kev needs to significantly improve though to get an extension.
i do think the rest of this season is Kev’s chance to prove himself. He’s got to have his little deck shuffling experiment for 15 rounds and we are now basically at full strength (except TPJ but you can’t use the guy who you tries to offload early being suspended as an excuse). He and the team have also had a break to regather themselves. He’s had a good look at the entire group now and got to experiment with his bench. He should now be able to pick the best possible line up and bench rotation (at least in his opinion) week in week out and show his coaching ability to have them improve and finish the season strong.
You can only judge him so far on his coaching ( because the roster management he can do very little about right now) and its falling short. I agree with you, from now until the end of the season we simply have to see improvement and Kevvie has to improve the team. I'm not expecting wins, i'm expecting to see more cohesion, better executed game plans, the team having a better structure etc. I didnt think we would be under Kevvie, but we are actually a worse and more fragile side so far. Staggs back will help, and i think we should have a more settled side, but the time for excuses with this club needs to be over. We need to get out of this loser mentality we have built up. Remember this saying from when i was a kid and i think its pretty relevant for us right now, you can make excuses, or you can make progress, your choice.
