Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Jensen's numbers are actually extremely impressive this year in both QCUP & the NRL, I like it as a bit of a cheap moneyball signing.

NRL - 9.2 hit-ups per game, 98.6 running metres per game = 10.7 metres per carry (35 mins per game)
QCUP - 14.0 hit-ups per game, 172 running metres per game = 12.3 metres per carry (59 mins per game)

That's good for #2 in Queensland Cup for running metres per game. I would view him as a significantly more reliable & more consistent Kennedy.

Stats wise, that is upper echelon territory. Anyone who is making 10 metres per run is an elite prop and he is in that territory. I don't watch NRL games anymore obviously, so can't comment on anything other than stats here, why isn't he higher valued in Townsville?

Personally, I think he's been unfairly overlooked there in the past few years.

To be fair @Wolfie we don't really know why we got rid of TPJ or Lodge. We had one poster in the know say it was the negative impact they had on team attitude. If that's the case, there's no double standard at all as we aren't talking about comparing off field behavior etc.
The way the team is playing since they got moved suggests that poster may have been right too.
I'm more thinking with somebody like Haas or even Kotoni for that matter if they have another incident if we are maintaining standards they can't carry on playing for us if it's reasonably serious.

Can't say I know much about Pangai, but I don't think there were too many dramas with Lodge. I think with him it's more the reputation of the New York incident that makes people think the worst of him, and probably rightly so to a point.

He had a reputation for clocking off too much and he liked to party a fair bit He's at good age though and maybe a fresh start will do him good.

"Jensen has played nine NRL games in 2021 off the interchange bench, averaging a career-high 90 running metres per game despite limited minutes, and made 24 tackles per game at almost 100 per cent efficiency. "

Paging @Huge

that could have to do with how many minutes he gets ...

because this part is about his ISC performances:

"averaging 172 metres run from 14 hut-ups with 67 post-contact metres per game - and making 98 tackles across those four appearances with just the one solitary tackle missed."

The cowboys also favoured Deardon over Clifford and have had JT13 sitting on the bench for extended minutes in crucial parts of games and now moved him to a edge.. so if he wasn't a full time first grader up in Townsville really means nothing.. he could come here and be the player his stats suggest or be a average depth player.
He's at the age where a middle forward is hitting their peak the move to us may be the perfect thing for his career

Of course it would be double standards. We basically got rid of Pangai for ill discipline on the field and off the field troubles, and lets be honest, he didnt really do anything off the field as bad as Haas did. You really dont think his threatening women, threatening police isnt bad? Or him driving unlicensed and on his phone isnt bad? You have to be kidding. The NRL will probably sit him down as it is anyway if he has another incident. If we are serious about having good people at the club, he wouldnt leave DD with any choice but to get rid of him tbh.

You would think Payne with his family background would know the damage driving dangerously would cause as well. Great player, but it seems when the footy finishes he becomes a deadset idiot.

As for Moose, he's nowhere near as bad as he got made out to be. He certainley isnt on the same level as Parker or Hodges were.
Mate you apparently have a clear bias against Haas and you are embellishing all over the place.

I dont think Moose is as bad as he is made out to be tbh. I dont think i'm making what Haas did sound any worse than it was. I could have, but i kept what he did pretty basic. I'd still say Pangai was just plain dumb and i think his on field discipline was a bigger contributer to him leaving, where i think Haas off field has been much worse than Pangai. I have no issue at all if we get rid of repeat offenders no matter who they are if we are serious about building a better culture.
Yep, that is crap.

I dont have a bias against him at all ( until he puts on a blue shirt, then i do ) but i cant see what i've embellished. I think i went light on him considering his actual actions towards the police. It was disgusting. I left pretty much all of his rant at them out ( which makes the whole incident look far, far worse ), but i cant see how me saying he threatened a woman ( he did ) he threatened other cops ( he did ) he drove unlicensed ( he did ) and he was on his phone whilst driving unlicensed ( which he was ) is embellishing anything. I'd really like you to tell me why its crap and what i've embellished. Everything i've posted is 100% accurate and like i said, i could have easily made it sound much worse.

And i'll repeat, i've got nothing against him, i really dont, i just dont like some of his behaviours. This will probably sound blunt but i'm not bothered if people belive that or not. If you or others want to give him a free pass because he is a teriffic footy player thats fine. I dont feel that way. He's broken the law on at least 5 occasions, some minor, others not so minor and i think he is lucky to not have been sat out for year tbh with his track record. You could swap him out with every single player in the squad and i'd be saying exactly the same thing.

Kind of ironic with all the talk of character, our two best players - by quite a margin - have been sanctioned by the NRL for off-field naughtiness, and one of our two marquee signings moonlighted in a gay porno (not that there's anything wrong with that). Which brings me to point out that off field behaviour and on field character aren't necessarily the same thing.

They arent, absolutely. Some people just simply make a mistake in their lives an thats it, they learn from it and move on. Others just seem to keep making them. My whole issue really is based around this apparent wish from Kevvie that we dont just need good players, we need good citizens. If we are deadset about that, then clearly we have some players who will be walking a thin line in the future if they stuff up again.

It's pretty obvious Haas is an absolute piece of shit when he gets on the piss. It's really hard to argue.

Kevvie uses the term "character." I might be wrong about this, but while it might seem intrinsically linked to varying degrees of not making a dick of yourself in public, it's actually more about work ethic. Take Lodge, for example. He had a history of making a **** of himself off the field, in relationships and on the piss. But that was never an issue in his tenure at the Broncos. His problem - according to received wisdom - is he had a tendency to do his own thing on the field. To go off script. And his big personality led others similarly astray.

What Kevvie wants is to have his team "singing from the same hymn sheet." The "character" he's after is about cohesion around the clubhouse and on the field. Staying out trouble with the Man is an obstacle course we've all had to navigate, but we didn't have their level fame and attention added to the hurdles.

From what I gather he avoids the piss these days. I never see him drinking after games. Not sure how much Islam has to do with it but he seems fairly observant.

According to the article the other day it did say that " Walters has made it clear internally that he not only wants good players, but good citizens." Now how true that is i dont know, but i think being a good role model and ambassador for the Broncos as a whole are tied together. One thing i will say for the new regime is so far they seem to want to lift the standards both on and off the field.

Plenty of great blokes who are great to the boys and those around them but endlessly make stupid choices outside of that.

Not ideal obviously but he’s young and he didn’t exactly get a head start in the maturity department when you look at his family.

I dont think they help either tbh. Hopefully the whole squad can keep their noses clean when the season ends.
