Broncos vs Sea Eagles Post Game Discussion

But he knocked the ball forward with a body part before grounding it, and if we assuming that your whole body is like your hands in the in goal for groundings wouldn't this be illegal?

You'd think so. But I'm pretty sure just the arms count in that situation.

I couldn't believe Sterlo and Rabs were raving on about the knock off the hip before grounding. It's only a knock on if it touches the hand or arm, up to the shoulder!

And then you can ground it with your torso with no control.

I hate the rule too, but it was a try.

His 3rd try...well, meh.

While Michaels was pretty bad, it wasn't his fault our forwards got dominated and Lyon had a lot of room to move in. Still, I finally agree on dropping him.

Michaels was marking Lyon isn't it his job to stop him from scoring 3 tries??

Yes, which is why I said he was pretty bad and should be dropped. I just said it could have been easier for him if we matched the Sea Eagles up the middle.

I'm devo that we lost after we had a really good first half. :-(

I thought Glenn did well in the centres, he had a pretty good combo with Folau IMO.

Michaels has to go. I was a big fan of him before he got injured, but now he's annoying the crap out of me!!! I bet you he won't get dropped though.

WAPOW! missed quite a few tackles today...pretty disappointing.

He was running at full speed made absolutely zero effort to use his hands to score and just dived over it with his body and it was awarded a try, this could be a new precedent.

When players kick behind the lines and players have to come at full speed chasing through, it's fairly hard to pick up the ball and score, or ground it while diving at full speed.

If players can just throw their body over the ball to score while diving, then it's impossible not to score seeing as apparently you can't knock on with your torso either, so now we might see players scoring by diving over the ball with no attempt to actually use their hands to ground it, wow I certainly wouldn't be impressed seeing trys being scored by jumping on the ball.

Now either the ref ****ed up, or as they seem to do was following the rules like a robot (ala, skin on ball on ground = try even with no control), if it's the latter, then I think we might see a few teams use this tactic and I will be very annoyed if so.

LMFAO! IS THAT seriously the rule?

That you can knock on with your hip but can't knock it on with your hand, yet if you can ground it with your hip for a try? Seriously? Isn't that contradictory? The same rules should apply with the hip if you can score with it! Unbelievable.

Why? If you field a kick off and let it hit your leg or stomach it's not a knock on. Same thing.

I'm surprised at the outrage over this. The grounding with your torso rule has been in place since 1908 (well, a long time anyway)!

Michaels just looks clueless both in attack and defense, he has to go but I wont hold my breath.

We seem to struggle once a team has a bit of momentum.

We've let teams get back-to-back tries in the space of about 5mins in 6 of the 9 games so far.

I agree with this team 100%

I like it, but tbh I'd leave folau where he is and do a swap of michales with Glenn, then another forward, preferably an excellent defender if we have one, on the bench.

Coxy, it wasn't his torso it was his hip that is why there is outrage.

From the NRL site

Lyon, who now looks almost certain to be selected for NSW in next month's Origin opener in Melbourne, was awarded a "torso try" shortly after half-time when his hip came in contact with the ball over the line.

But it was his third try in the 70th minute, where he propelled the ball forward before scoring, which was the talking point after the game and a sore point with the Broncos.

And his last try - He tapped it forward. How is that any different to the one we saw from..(Scott Prince was it?). Lyon tapped it forward then regathered - I don't understand, how can that be ruled a try? So I agree with Gymp - You cannot possible say that that was a "juggle".

Jarred Hayne.

I'm not going to write Michaels off yet because he has ability and just seems to be lacking in confidence at the moment. However, I think he needs to go back to Queensland Cup level in order to regain that confidence. In the meantime, I would have Folau and Hodges in the centres and Winterstein and Yow Yeh/Beale/Hewitt (I haven't seen enough of them lately to choose) on the wing. Hopefully Michaels can get back to the form he showed before that injury last year.

As for today's game, once again we switched off and paid dearly for it. Manly weren't that great today (Lyon was). Their forwards were solid but not spectacular and their kicking game was dreadful. We let them back into the game by dropping intensity and giving away penalties at crucial times. Have we been switched on for a full 80 minutes yet in 2009?

And if the pass to Winterstein late in the first half was forward, so was the ball to Bani for his try.

The touchie that was 1 m away and right in line thought that it was fine, but the ref who was further away and on an angle called it forward.... WTF

Touch judges are almost no longer needed in today's game IMO. I cannot see what purpose they serve

He bumped it with his hip originally and then grounded it with his lower stomach. That's torso. Fair try.

OK haven't seen it, but if you can ground a ball with your torso, and I have not problem with that rule, surely you can knoock it on with your torso in the act of scoring a try, just makes sense to me.

At 16 - 0 up we should have been able to win even with the couple of dodgy ref calls, but the broncos of old are here in full strength, good starts, crap finishes and heaps to bitch about. We were tired and slow and looked like crap 90% of the game... and should have been beaten by 50 and couldve been belted by most teams. WHY!!!!!!!!! I don't know, but I should be used to it... :(

I want to kill people with the name Michaels and anyone called Umpire. That is all

Im seriously pissed right now
