Broncos vs Sea Eagles Post Game Discussion

What if a prop has just been given a sloppy pass from dummyhalf and drops it cold, but in the process of dropping the ball it hits his hip before hitting the ground?

As long as it doesn't hit his hands or arms somewhere in there then it's play on.

Have had a quick breeze over others comments and as expected it seems all are blaming the refs when it was our team inept display that lost the game.

The torso try was a try by the letter of the law even if it is a stupid rule. The knock forward was a try, nothing like the Hayne try as Hayne propelled it forward over the head of a player for his advantage, Lyon's did not propel it over a player. Both time the left side defence was caught out, Michaels had nothing and I was disappointed with Winterstein's lack of pace and turning ability (ala Tame Tupou) on both occasions.

On the forward passes both were nearly in line with our seats, both calls were right, theirs was a try and ours was not a try. I had no real problem with the refereeing.

It was our performance that some have eluded to that was the problem and that fadeout has been coming for a while and Henjak knew it and has been warning us about it for weeks, we have just been lucky and weathered it of late (bar the Parra game).

On the performance, agree PJ impressed and look forward to seeing more of him in tandem with hopefully McCullough (NB I am not writing Gorrell off, we need an experienced hooker in tandem with Macca and if PJ is not fit then Gorrell should play in tandem). Parker is playing great football as is Clinton. Agree re Sammy getting found out running in too close to the ruck with the inside balls, should be out wider for mine. Sims continues to impress me just needs to keep it up.
Both Locky and Wally looked tired and faded in and out of the game too much tonight, they will be up for Friday guaranteed. Thought the Glenn and Izzy combo worked well and whilst I'd have no problem with Glenn in the centres I still feel his best value is off the bench in the forwards. Palmer looked out of his depth today, did not hit the line with an conviction and should go back to Qld Cup till SOO time. DT would have been handy today.

So overall that was the performance that has been coming for a while now and hopefully will wake some of the players up, we certainly missed K and Hodgo, blaming the refs was not the cause of our loss, we were.

I couldn't believe Sterlo and Rabs were raving on about the knock off the hip before grounding. It's only a knock on if it touches the hand or arm, up to the shoulder!

And then you can ground it with your torso with no control.

I hate the rule too, but it was a try.

His 3rd try...well, meh.

LMFAO! IS THAT seriously the rule?

That you can knock on with your hip but can't knock it on with your hand, yet if you can ground it with your hip for a try? Seriously? Isn't that contradictory? The same rules should apply with the hip if you can score with it! Unbelievable.

Why? If you field a kick off and let it hit your leg or stomach it's not a knock on. Same thing.

I'm surprised at the outrage over this. The grounding with your torso rule has been in place since 1908 (well, a long time anyway)!

Yeah i dont get it either, my brother was carrying on about it. its all within the rules. u can ground the ball with ur torso, yet u cant knock it on. its stupid, but its the rule

Has anyone mentioned how hopelessly inadequate our middle park defense was today (particularly in the second half, as manly actually had decent possession in it). I was at the game and I couldn't believe how easily manly were able to get a roll on through the middle. Clinton was great today and Kenny was good too, but those bench forwards needed to step up and DID NOT.

The Lyon grounding was a mistake by the video ref, that is why Sterlo and co were going on and on.

Here is the rule below, the ball came into contact with Lyon above his waist and was propelled forward, it was not on the ground, therefore it is an incorrect grounding and is play on because there has been no knock on. For Lyon to have scored he would need to regain control and ground the ball.

GROUNDING means

(a) placing the ball on the ground with hand or
THE BALL hands or

(b) exerting a downward pressure on the ball
with hand or arm, the ball itself being on the
ground or

(c) dropping on the ball and covering it with the
part of the body above the waist and below
the neck, the ball itself being on the ground.

Incorrect grounding ......... When an attacking player fails to ground the ball correctly,
play continues unless stopped for some other reason, e.g. a
knock-on or the ball goes dead.

I agree Bani was offside when he caught the ball , also Matai was offside when we were away late in the game and how that was missed is a mystery. Overall we were dudded but having said that we were far enough in front if good enough.

I see what you are saying BUT, he did ground the ball correctly according to that rule, it just happened to be after he had already hit it forward with his torso. The rule doesnt state that you can ground the ball with your torso BUT only if you havent already touched it with your torso. Fact of the matter is, he landed on the ball, while it was touching the ground.

Forget the word torso, it is not in the rule. The definition is between the waist and the neck. The ball was in the air when it made contact with his waist then fell on it, therfore it is an incorrect grounding and play on.

By the way how good are Marsh's hits for a bloke his size. When he gets those shots timed he hits like Tonie Carroll I reckon.

Well yeah, it depends on how technical you want to get lol, I don't know why rules are so complicated ffs

pissed off with todays game. just awful. Lockyer looked awesome tho, at times he would look to be setting up something brilliant, but noone was smart enough to go with him. lockyer is easily on another level or two above the rest of the team at times

I agree with this team 100%

I like it, but tbh I'd leave folau where he is and do a swap of michales with Glenn, then another forward, preferably an excellent defender if we have one, on the bench.[/quote:376tw6e1]

I think the above team is THE one. Glenn is an ideal bench player and IMO, should stay there.

Disappointed with Wapau - He looks lost and seems to lack intensity. Please bring Taylor back.

Wish we'd use Thaiday as a real running forward instead of giving him the ball when he's standing still most of the time.

Michaels has now shown he must go - hasn't recaptured his form last year and it's costing us dearly.

Marsh played great. Must be the regular 9. The attack worked so well with him on the field and his defence was good. Parker has AT LAST regained his form and IMO, is now definitely an Origin prospect.

Hope Henjak has at last learned from this season's performances - both team selections and maybe, “training targets†for the whole team in terms of an 80 minute effort.

i remember saying how good marsh was ages ago and everyone took the piss out of me ......eat your words nobheads

Morning to you too Mickey, seems your bad day last week has carried over to this week hey [icon_wink
No need to get abusive about you being right for a change icon_thumbs_u , PJ just needs to stay injury free and he will continue to be the first picked number 9 no doubt about it.

my apollogies ...good morning .......he was awesome yesterday

Horrible horrible game. The first 25 minutes was great but from then on we were pathetic. For some reason it failed to register that the inside balls were not working and that sending it wide was indeed an option. Our total lack of interest during certain stages of that second half was the most depressing part of yesterday. There was nobody talking when we were regrouping in our in goal after Manly scored their tries. Very un Bronco like.

The one good thing out of yesterday was PJ Marsh. He was outstanding. Well done son.

And I thought both of Lyon's tries were tries. The last thing we should be doing is blaming the officials for that loss. We had them on the rack at 16-0 and took our foot off the throat. Not good enough.

I quoted your post on a different forum, I haven't tried to claim it as my own or anything as I left your name on it and all - I hope that's fine, I just figured it may spark some more discussion.
