Cobbo: “I think he’s a nice guy but not a good coach”

How long does Kebbie have to prove he's more than just a good friend?

I never attacked his intelligence, in fact I have been firmly in the camp that he is smart enough that this is malicious. TBF you are the one saying that he is so naive and dumb that he doesnt understand concepts most 10 year olds are across. If someone said that about me I would consider that an attack on my intelligence.

You have been overstating how dumb he would have to be in order for this to happen. Adult carer etc.

You’ve also twisted my words there to an embarrassing degree. The ‘concepts 10 year olds would understand’ for example.
Dumb young kid and naive aren’t being used the way you’ve interpreted it.

If it was October, it isn’t great but makes more sense as I think a lot of the players were frustrated at the way the season ended, at least there is a spin for it.
I was thinking the same thing, I would potentially change my view point somewhat if it turns out it was October. The fact that he talks about missing games in the same interview perhaps he was feeling defensive so said more than he was wanting as he felt under pressure. That is something I could believe of someone his age.

Yeah no malice at all in my opinion but he has a duty to not be doing podcasts if he doesn’t have the duty of care or ability to understand what he is saying.
I’d say the same about Kev and speaking to the media or communicating with players.

Selwyn's had a lot of time to reflect on this and should've known it would surface. If he thought about it, he would know the shit would hit the fan. You'd think he would've asked them to take it down. Pay them if necessary. Same goes for the club. Don't they have a damage controller on staff?

Mind you they have some problems there as well.

Cobbo:

“I reckon he’s a good person. He’s a good person, like a good bloke but I don’t think he’s a good coach. He’s not the best coach but he’s all right. I feel like he’s just a good person but I don’t reckon he’s a coach. Even though he experienced footy, been through all the grand finals and all that, but I feel like he’s not a coach. But he’s a good person, a good bloke and does a lot for the club. But the way he coaches is a bit weird, I guess. He’s a good person though. He’s an alright coach.”
Are these Cobbo’s words? If so, he has smoked some worst shit you would find in the bushes? He kept repeating the same shit over & over. How stable is he when he did the podcast?

released November but I am assuming on other platforms October.

Well, the club statement is out and it has all been taken out of context. That definitely wasn’t written by Sel though …

Club statement:

“Today’s article on a podcast I did last year has been taken out of context. It was two guys chatting and joking about silly things like the comments about Kev that had been made by Tyson.
“The fact is that Kev is a very good coach, as are all of our coaches at the Broncos. I was lucky enough to play Origin for Queensland last year and that is off the back of the coaching of Kev and his team.

“Kev has taught me a lot since coming into the NRL squad and provided me with great support as I adjusted to the professionalism of NRL.
“I was late to training a few times and instead of cutting me, he educated me and supported me.
“When I felt burnt out late in the year, Kev rested me and when he thought I was ready he gave me more responsibilities.
“I have already contacted Kev to apologise and I’d like to extend that to his family and the whole Broncos club for this unwarranted attention over some silly comments from me.”

I'm not surprised this has come out again. I've been saying the same thing for a long, long time now. Got told ages ago by people who have worked with him he just isnt a head coach. Cant get his message across and isnt great tactically. I wouldnt say he cant coach either, his skills are just in a different area than the one he is in now.

It just goes back to some intel Cult shared not that long ago. It was words to the effect that the Broncos had to be careful with Cobbo because mentally he was checked out. That he had a set of goals, had achieved everything he wanted to out of the game and was struggling to adapt to the city lifestyle.

Now whether that's true now remains to be seen, but the interview certainly paints that picture. That Rugby League was his 24/7, that he didn't see his family for six months and it was really tough on him going from Cherbourg to Brisbane away from his family. I thought it was telling that when asked about the World Cup, Cobbo was relieved he didn't get picked and was enjoying the break.

Obviously, he could have articulated himself better on the Walters situation but it's nothing we haven't heard before.

We also knew he was weighing up an offer from the Dolphins and they were offering him more opportunities in his preferred positions, lucrative money and a chance to be coached by Bennett. None of that is news and of course he would consider it but ultimately he decided to stick with the Broncos.

It's something to be mindful of and will have to be addressed but really it's a storm in a teacup. Calls for Cobbo to be released or for the Broncos to go sign Des are hilarious though.
