Controversial Opinions Thread

People who constantly watch those comp sing praises for certain players. Someone else sees this and thinks "Wow, this player sounds pretty good"... and then suggests him as a possible option.

Nothing really wrong with that. If you mention players you think no one else watches, those people will generally take your opinion in account more so than with players who are on TV.

Not sure where it rates on the controversy scale, but I hate people not watching games be it ISC or NYC and then picking or suggesting players from that competition.

.

What really grinds my gears is when someone uses this during a discussion on here when it's damn near impossible for us to watch every ISC and NYC game ever so our opinion is automatically invalid. Also seeing the most of something doesn't necessarily mean your opinion on said topic is the correct opinion. Not saying you don't know your shit, you obviously do. I've just seen you say this a fair bit, even towards those who do watch most home NYC and a lot of Wynnum games.

But obviously I understand that you dislike it when it is actually the case. I feel the same way. But you can't really blame people for gaining an appreciation from a 5minute highlight video on youtube.

What annoys me is people claiming that it doesn't matter how people are playing in the lower grades, they will somehow magically perform when they get to the NRL.

I heard this a bit at the start of the year. and unfortunately it doesn't work like that.

Bennett didnt win one in 3 years from 2003-2005, lost 5 out of 5. in fact if we lost 7 finals matches in a row from 2002 to 2006.

[/COLOR]They won the premiership in 2012....

My controversial opinions....could take a while lol. ill come back and update. to start with though:

- McCullough is a huge part of why we aren't and haven't been a premiership threat.
- Our second rowers are up there with the worst and most ineffective in the league, Parker excluded.
- Our outside backs arent "finishers", and wouldn't make the starting team of many other clubs.

I'm not going to argue Bellamy with you, we'll go in circles because I'll never convince you and you'll never convince me.

McCullough, I agree, I've made it pretty clear I've never been a fan, he's serviceable but he's nit great and he hasn't really improved much in 6 years. I'd be more than happy for the club to replace him.

Our second rowers - yes and no, I think the team is poorly coached, if they don't improve under Bennett next year, I'd be happy for the lot of them besides Parker and Gillett to be punted.

You're definitely right on our backs, it's always frustrating watching other wingers who finish tries from the most ridiculous places, I can't remember our wingers putting on a quality finish, well there was Yow Yeh...

The footy show is probably the stupidest sports show ever and how it's still running is crazy.

I thought this was the controversial thread? Not the incredibly obvious and safe opinion thread. :P Agree 100% on both, specially 'Vonnie <3 although I don't mind Erin and think she cops too much criticism.

That reminds me...

I prefer the Channel 9 telecast over Fox's.

This becomes really clear during the finals when Fox dubs the commentary. Matches that seemed so much larger than life to me on 9 really drop down a peg or two when they have the Fox commentators call it.

Yeah, 9 bugs me but if you asked me which team I'd prefer to listen to on Grand Final day give me Rabs, Sterlo & Gould over Smith & Brandy.

Warren Smith is the 2nd best play by play caller with Voss just ahead. As much as I love Rabs he is well past it, he called Greg Eastwood Greg Inglis on Sunday.

It was pretty bad. Seemed to be fighting with Gus a lot too. I can't say much about Voss or Smith as I haven't heard them (at least I cannot recall them). I don't mind listening to Sterlo. I think he's pretty fair.

Yeah I cringed when I heard RWarren blab that out.

He's well past it indeed. His senility is really starting to kick into high gear. He's an embarrassment to RL.

Both Fox and Nein have become so frustrating. CH9 will replay a fly masturbating on a blade of grass, 10 thousand times....Fox you're lucky to get one replay from a single angle of a crucial referee decision. How fucken hard is it to strike an even balance ??

That said....I think overall Fox have the edge in it's commentary team. Gould, Rabs & Sterlo are OK....but when CH9 kick in with Hadley and fucken Tim Gilbert, it becomes all kinds of derppp.

I don't really care if the play by play guy is a know-it-all or whether he gets the odd name wrong - what I like from them is to bring excitement into the game and I believe Rabs still does that better than most.

Voss is the only one who compares. If they get him to call the Fox GF I may change my mind.

Never been a fan of Smith.

That Ipswich VS Wynnum game on the weekend was the best rugby league game I have seen all year as far as entertainment value.

Agreed. It's not an isolated incident either. I reckon the majority of ISC games broadcast this year have been better than the NRL games that follow it.

It's not even replays with Channel 9 it's the producers evident case of ADHD where we'll be lucky to see three tackles in a row before we cross to the sideline to see some bench forward tug on his nuts, a close-up of a player, somebody in the crowd and then they'll throw in replays on top of all that.

Fox has better depth but even then they have a few spuds on their team who just have to go.

Agreed. The Broncos wouldn't have made a massive offer for Cam Smith if we were totally sold on McCullough's progress. Now we've lost Granville. Just Hoping this guy Bennett is bringing with him can pass off the ground...
