Corey Parker appreciation thread

I use my eyes to see Parker plays exactly the same whether he has the 10 or 13 on his back. Some people should try it...

Show me the stats for off loads per first tackle hit ups then off loads per second hit up etc. Stats are brilliant in some ways but are woefully inadequate in others. It must just be coincidence that he played lock, his Dally M medal winning position and his favoured position when he won Man of the Match because some stats seem to indicate otherwise. Perhaps when you play where you want to play you play better.

when i did the stats earlier this season (comparing him to last season) they showed that he had more offloads this year (for the same number of game) ... does it really matter if he offloads on the first tackle or the 3rd tackle or whatever.

from memory, the only stat that he did less of this year is minutes played.

surely the jersey number tells you exactly how Parker is playing, why do you need to watch him

We could have used all these eyes before we signed Kennedy.

Yeah, it matters. If he is making as many off loads after he has taken the first hit up as when he is off the third or fourth then I will concede your point. Generally speaking the first hit up or frontrower hit up is when the opposition is best set and also generally it is the hardest one. You don't have to be Einstein to work that out and most certainly, Porthoz is not Einstein. As obvious is the reason we choose very big strong men to play that role. The aim of the prop is to make as much ground as possible and props who push passes generally find themselves dropped to reggies or altogether.

If numbers don't count or represent the positions then we should get rid of them. Why not just make these supposedly all purpose players wear orange. After all according to Foordy and Porthoz the roles are all the same. You'd have a six pack of orange jerseys on the field.

If you leave the grunt work to the grunt work specialists then the more skilled forwards with the better ball handling talents and superior footwork can shine. They have not been bashed and belted as much as when they are asked to do the hardest job and still provide the second phase play. I'd say Parker's poorer kicking is a direct result of him being forced to do bash and barge then having to coordinate his finer motor skills with place kicking. Hey, what would I know as I obviously don't watch the game.

Aww Huge, did I hurt your feelings? Your Einstein rebuttal almost hurt mine.

Where did I say that Prop and Lock roles are the same? Because that is definitely not the same thing as saying that regardless which number he wears, Parker has been playing the same way, but hey, what do I know... I'm not a rocket scientist.

Btw, in 2013, when he deservedly won the Lock of the year award, his kicking percentage was 62.5%.
This year, where he's supposedly doing all the dumb grunt work, he's at 69%.
But please, don't let facts stand in the way of a good rant.

FYI, his overal career percentage stands at 74.1%.

Parker's efforts in the Origin game last night was nothing short of outstanding. His offloads to bring about some second phase play had the Blues back pedalling all night. It reminded me of the decider in 2012, I think it was. His offloads had a hand in 2 QLD tries. No way to coach against that. He was probably just as big a loss in Game 2 as Cronk was. It was a well-deserved man of the match performance.

Ps: He plays better at lock, imo.

I'm sure it's been said before and elsewhere. If they both played all 3 full games, it would have been Qld's 9th series, with 3 out of 3.

Best game from Parker I have ever seen.

and yet goal kicking has been a crucial factor in almost all of our losses this year. Parker never lands the crucial goals. That's something the stats don't mention...it could be a sign of fatigue as Huge mentioned.

If you and Foordy want to toss out stats to back up your opinions then go ahead. Not trying to sound like I'm having a go at you or anything but they are not the be all and end all and it doesn't make arguments bulletproof.

Some of us like to put some emphasis on quality over quantity. At the end of the day, that's why I'd rather look at some stats and favour 1 run from David Hala than 10 from Martin Kennedy...

He was missing crucial goals last year and the year prior from lock though.

Huge's point was that playing prop was affecting his goal-kicking when if anything it's improved.

Well, BP already replied for me, but the point I was making was that his percentage was worse in the last couple of seasons at Lock than this year as a prop, when Huge implied he was kicking worse because of playing prop this year.

The rest of the stats provide an indication only, which supports my and others' opinion, but I think I made pretty clear that my opinion is based on what I SEE, not the stats.

Updated stats for Parker:

23 runs (223m), 30 tackles, 8 offloads, 1 tackle break.

Were-not-Worthy.jpg

18 offloads in 10 days.

Just tell him to make sure they are going to our players next time. ;)

Don't get me wrong Corey Parker offloads are amazing. He just got one wrong tonight.

He can stop giving away offside penalties too that would be nice.

So if Parker plays roughly 40 more NRL games before he retires, he and Darren Lockyer will be 2nd and 1st respectively in most games played for 1 club.

Or 1st and 3rd if we count Menzies.

I personally think that Manly and Northan Eagles should be counted as one club for Menzies ... It's not like he chose to leave his club ... they merged and then were backstabbed by Manly.

Yeah, I agree. He needs to play at least 51 then. Rnd 1 is his 300th, I believe.

Hope he gets plenty of rest this pre-season, 27 80-minute games await.
