Corey Parker appreciation thread

Well i'm looking forward to seeing CP13 play lock for the entire season 2015.

I've always felt he wasn't best suited to playing up front, but we needed his input as he's been our best forward for years now.

The Internet, the place for agreement. Imagine a fictitious world where Porthoz,Foordy and myself were sitting in the beer garden drinking a couple of coldies. (It is fictional!) We look up at the big screen and WB appears ,being interviewed about his actions in changing the team around, he says Parker is better at lock. Porthoz, Foordy and I only a few weeks before had had a spirited debate about Parker with me thinking like WB. So ,three Aussie mates drinking a few brews( imagine any three with the same views ) ,when that happens nobody says a word. Right, bullshit ! No way that happens, you take the absolute piss out of one another. Mercilessly ragging each other is the Aussie norm but no, on the Internet we have to sit quietly staring straight ahead as if nothing had been said.

This forum has been good at times and still is.

Parker gets my vote as captain too....

Happy to have that beer at any time!

I'm not going into the redundant argument again, but FTR, I never said Parker wasn't better suited to play Lock, of course he is!
I also never said he should play at Prop.
All I said, and feel free to prove otherwise, is that he didn't play differently at Prop than how he played at Lock.
I clearly don't agree with everything WB does, but I also don't disagree with everything. I've stated many times what I don't like and what I do like, and in this case, I really don't see how my statement is in disagreement with WB.

While we're at it, my classification of WB as the "messiah", isn't an indictment on Bennett, rather than how certain people view him.

Back on topic, I don't think anyone on this forum doesn't think we're better off with Corey at Lock.
Whether he should be captain is a different question however. While he's certainly not the worst choice, I'd rather go with other options, my preference being Macca.

Parker might not play too differently, but he should still be at lock, so our go forward doesn't suffer by having someone like Thaiday there instead. And having 2 extra proper middle players instead of just 1 will give him freedom to choose his runs more, and that's when he's more effective - both at making metres and offloads.

To borrow your fictional analogy Huge, of you, Porthoz and Foordy sitting in your fictional beer garden drinking a couple of coldies and becoming increasingly rowdy as you all take the absolute piss out of each other, you must expect that the people at the surrounding tables are well entitled to tell the three of you to shut the **** up if they can't hear the tv. That would be the aussie norm would it not?

This.

It's what I would do.

Yeah, that would be the norm. Rather unsurprisingly,I get your point !

No worries mate, just having a bit of fun ;-)

QUEENSLAND Origin warhorse Corey Parker has sacrificed more than $100,000 after agreeing to a 12-month extension to become a Bronco for life.In a rare show of loyalty in today’s professional age, Parker has spurned more lucrative opportunities from English Super League clubs to pledge his future to the Broncos.
By agreeing to another season with Brisbane in 2016, the 302-game veteran is now on course to eclipse Darren Lockyer (355 games) as the most capped player in NRL history.

The tackling machine will also have the chance to smash the all-time record for most games by an NRL forward, currently held by Manly legend Steve Menzies (349).

“There’s a few finer points we need to sort out, but I’m sure we will come to an agreement (for next season) which is really pleasing,” Parker said.
“I hope to be here next year, it’s certainly looking that way.
“The deal hasn’t been quite finalised but I have been here for 15 years and I want to finish here.
“I am a proud Bronco and while there is some interest abroad, I haven’t really had to look into it because I’m happy here.
“My body still feels good. For me now, it’s about the recovery side of things and preparing for the next game.
“I don’t wake up feeling as good as I used to, but I love the game and I’ve always felt if I’m still competing, I’ll keep playing and I feel I’m right to keep going next year.”
Typifying his team-first ethos, Parker shunned the opportunity to celebrate a two-try haul on Friday night, giving Andrew McCullough a saloon passage for a 32-6 half-time lead.
Eight minutes before the break, Parker posted his first try in 12 months, underlining his remarkable endurance by backing up a Glenn bust to stun the Cowboys.

“Macca is my roommate so I had to look after him,” he said. “I saw the winger coming across and it made sense for me to pass to him for the try.
“It was good to get some clear air myself, I haven’t crossed the (tryline) for 12 months so it was good to get across the stripe.”
Broncos skipper Justin Hodges lauded Parker’s decision to play on in 2016 after the forward’s disappointment at missing out on the captaincy last month.
“I’m glad Corey is going around again,” Hodges said.
“I really admire his will to compete, he gives 100 per cent on every play, his best quality is he doesn’t want to let his teammates down and that’s what keeps him going.
“It’s a credit to Corey the way he has handled it (losing the captaincy). It’s a big honour to captain the Broncos and both he and Sam Thaiday have supported me.”

What a champion!!!!!!

Excellent news! He still has a lot to offer us and by getting him at a discount that's going to help us moving forward too.

Interesting to note that he only played 47mins last night too. Despite that he still has 20 runs! Legendary effort as always, but perhaps a scaling back of his role as our other forwards continue to develop?

Happy with that. Parker easily has another year in him yet. He's 33 this year but still an awesome player, and I don't see him slowing down next year.

a true professional and a true clubman ... over the moon he is a Bronco

I thought he was already signed for next year? I don't think he was on the offcontract list...

Clause in his favour by the sounds of the article, so had the option of leaving.

Just another example of a class club player he is, it probably won't have quite the emotional attachment of Lockyer's retirement, but when he does finish his career he will be surely missed.

Very good signing. Parker has never been better and he's easily the best lock in the game

How good are old threads?

@Foordy - Good call my friend.
