Daniel Vidot discussion

More like,

Pre-season:

WB: "Competition for backline positions is so fierce right now, no one is safe.
Vidot: "Ok sweet, I'll try hard, though my incumbency and awesome efforts in 2014 must count for something"

Post trials:

WB:"We've had a good look at you Daniel, and we've gone with someone else. You're right in the mix though"
Vidot: "That's disappointing, but I wil work hard in ISC and try to get back in the top squad

Pre-round 1:

WB: "We've named Whitchurch on the bench for Round 1. You just played like shit in the trials mate. Although Whitchurch played worse and has a long history of droppsies in first grade and hasn't actually played first grade for 2 yeasr. Vidot, I want you playing prop for the Jets"
Vidot:"Wait. what? Ahh ok, but I've played wing or centre my entire life."
WB: "Shut up. I make the rules around here. Such a bad attitude son. This is the Broncos and I am God. Look, tell your agent to shop you around and if a better offer comes up, take it. But I want you to keep playing hard for the Jets".
Vidot:"WTF"

Post- Round 1:

WB: "Well that (de)escalated quickly. Looks like Whitchurch can't cut the mustard. BTW our first line winger (Copley) has gone down with a calf injury. I'm gonna go with...Oates... he's a big framed and strong winger, just what we need"
Vidot:"Ah.. I'm a big framed winger, topped the metres last year in the NRL wtf have I done wrong"
WB:" Stop questioning me. You've got ample opportunity to prove yourself in the QCUP"
Vidot:"But I'm playing prop FFS"
WB:" Don't let the music die in you Daniel - such a bad attitude, you'll make it back one day"

Round 3:
WB: "Well we won comfortably there and Maranta scored 2 tries. Looks like I've got my wingers sorted for the season. Oh look, I need a 18th man forward/winger. Todd Lowrie is a great utliity"
Vidot: "Coach?"

BHQ: SUCH A FUCKIN UNLOYAL DOG.

ok...

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

You clearly haven't watched them if you think that's all they do and don't understand what they do. Just say I've never watched them- don't guess.

They're not part-timers at all- Pretty sure Parcell is thriving and he's a full time footballer, Anderson- full time footballer.
Who did Bennett pick to do a session against for pre-season? Those part time guys that play touch and nothing else?

Are the Broncos not winning off all the players and the skills this style are giving them? Joe, Parcell, Anderson and Griffin. More Jets at the Broncos then ever before. Just lucky?

To blame the Jets for Vidot's drop is beyond ridculous, given so many other players are going the other way.

I'm not blaming the Jets for Vidot's dropping at all. You said that he was already on the outer when he went there.

I haven't watched a single game of ISC this year. But I've seen Hannant & Barba play NRL. It's early in the season, but can you see where these additional skills are proving beneficial to them?

The Jets can do what they want - sounds like the Walker brothers are enjoying themselves, pushing the boundaries of what's expected to win games, while letting the players use their natural talents. It's awesome. I just don't think that their style is entirely relevant to the NRL, at least not while the current standard requires high-percentage football to win, consistently anyway.

I think he means Marmin Barba.

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

Comparing Vidot to Carlin is doesn't make sense. One is a NRL winger who has been dropped for reasons we don't understand (but perhaps some here know but won't/cannot tell) and the other is an up and coming player hoping to get a crack.
You said yourself he was dropped in Dec before the season and even the trial games. Carlin has no reason to be offended. Vidot does. Sure he should stick it out and enjoy some exciting football but perhaps he knows more than we do.

From that you've somehow drawn a link suggesting to an attack on the Jet's game style but I've got no issues with the Jets as its some of the most exciting football I've seen but please don't use Barba, Kennedy and Hannant to back up your argument.

Sorry but this makes no sense. In a discussion on if a style of play has hampered Vidot, another winger playing the same role and prospering greatly is a great comparison. I can't see how someone couldn't see that.

Offence has nothing to do with it.

Actually again they are great back-ups, they've all said they improved under the Walkers and went back to the Broncos better. Barba hung around this year despite big offers.

Again Barba is a winger scoring 22 tires under this terrible system that has stopped Vidot from playing well. Anderson scored an NRL contract being stifled from the same system. Two wingers doing well.

So you don't think Vidot is offended that he was dropped to ISC? I think that has a lot to with that and less to do with Barba scoring 22 tries. This isn't about Barba, Parcell, Hannant or Kennedy. This is about Vidot.

btw I removed the Barba from my earlier comment you quoted. I forgot you were talking about Marmin and not Ben. Same as Morkel did.

Hang on.

Nobody has said anything about it stopping Vidot from playing well, it's just stopping him from playing the style he should be in the NRL.

The Walkers have a completely different style of play to pretty much any team in the competition. Having him spend time in the middle when really he needs to work on his wing skills isn't giving him every opportunity to improve.

It isn't on the Jets, it's on Bennett.

then how do you explain Reed still getting selected

Did you ever stop to consider that Reed is only in the side because Copley is still struggling? And with this talk that Copley wants to play on Sunday, he might come in for Reed.

As for Vidot well, Bennett must see that he hasn't really got a place for him in this side. Vidot has been hard done by obviously, but so was Barba, and we all know how that turned out.

Not at all, because Copleys best position is center but was shunted to the wing so Reed could have the center position

Reed is a better defender than Copley and Milford requires protection.

It isn't like Copley was fully fit or has the experience of Reed either.

I keep reading on here that reed is a good defender, and in some people's eyes he is one of the best defensive centres in the game, but whenever he is tested he fails miserably. Copley cant be much worse

Reed isn't perfect but then again, there isn't a centre in the game that is when it comes to defence.

Last year, Reed had Copley covered when it came to technique, positioning and reading the play. His only down-side is that he doesn't have the mobility of Copley so players can get around him easier which is what we saw in Round 1.

I must say I was disappointed with his effort on Friday on Morgan. The Cowboys were always a good chance of scoring, they had the numbers and got players on the outside of ours but he should have forced the pass from Morgan instead of falling for the dummy. I wouldn't crucify him for that error but obviously he can't make a habit of it.

I think people forget that we're in March and it isn't about naming your best possible team on potential right off the bat. You've got to ease everyone into roles, and see where the changes have to be made.

I'd like to see Copley play left centre down the line, but don't have an issue with him missing out on Sunday. I think people forget that he's suffered some injuries in his time, dating back to when he was an NYC player and he's got to be managed properly as well.

You say quality.

I say enigmatic.

You say cast off.

I say played him in reserve grade to work on his issues where he decided he deserved better after little to no time and got his management to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The Vidot situation is like the glass half full/empty principal as far as I'm concerned.

..equally, you don't cast off a quality winger like Vidot in March either.

Especially when we arent exactly flush with an abundance of good wingers. If maranta gets injured right now (assuming copley is injured also)... who would play wing?

Who do you go to next week if one of Kahu, Maranta, Oates, Copley or Reed goes down.
