Daniel Vidot discussion

I haven't been following the Intrust Super Cup but there's Greg Eden, Carlin Anderson, Tom Opacic, Jordan Drew, Jayden Nikorima, Aaron Whitchurch and Paul Byrnes.

Pending where the injury is, can always move Kahu to centre/wing and have Kodi play fullback.

Can't rule out the possibility of the Broncos signing a fringe player from elsewhere either. Isn't the first time Bennett has done it, won't be the last.

Opacic scored a fair few try's for the under 20's and I think we would have seen him play in England if he didn't pick up that virus.

Carlin Anderson is a gun only 18 and is very fast. Also plays a bit of fullback

Re: Is Lachlan Maranta Really That Bad?

Sorry but this makes no sense. In a discussion on if a style of play has hampered Vidot, another winger playing the same role and prospering greatly is a great comparison. I can't see how someone couldn't see that.

Offence has nothing to do with it.

Actually again they are great back-ups, they've all said they improved under the Walkers and went back to the Broncos better. Barba hung around this year despite big offers.

Again Barba is a winger scoring 22 tires under this terrible system that has stopped Vidot from playing well. Anderson scored an NRL contract being stifled from the same system. Two wingers doing well.

I know this isn't super relevant but how come Marmin barba never gets a mention when everyone talks about Wingers for the Broncos? Is he not good enough to play first grade or what?

seriously ... if we ran out with only 12 men, we'd be no worse off.

Especially when we arent exactly flush with an abundance of good wingers. If maranta gets injured right now (assuming copley is injured also)... who would play wing?
This reminds me of the young wingers we've had over the years who've played only one game or so. Jordan Drew comes to mind but who was that bloke who played one game for us and went to Melbourne, or the bloke who was picked from Redcliffe years ago because everyone else was injured?

Just googled it - Shea Moylan and Alwyn Simpson.

We've had twenty players play only one first grade game.

Alwyn Simpson is very memorable. Made his debut in the first final against Melbourne in 07. Might have been marking Folau.

Has anyone considered perhaps the Rabbitohs were the ones that approached Vidot for a potential switch? After all they don't have much depth if Reddy and Goodwin are in their regular first grade team.

And in the context of quality, you'd say any of those are a better option than Vidot.

Or that his management went out looking without him knowing and then said it was a done deal to Souths before it fell through

In the Reed v Copley defensive argument, you cannot say Copley has been worse so far this year. Reed has been our worst defender in the team, getting beaten on what seems to be 90% of first contact tackles.

Or that his management went out looking without him knowing and then said it was a done deal to Souths before it fell through

Or it went like:

Agent:"Vidot, you're getting ripped off. You are the man. You should be playing first grade every week, State of Origin is in your sights. I could get you $400K a year and first grade spot. PS got you a meeting with Souths, they're interested"
Vidot:"I'm listening. Not like Wayne's picking me in first grade this week"

Agent:"Souths, you seem like you need a winger"
Souths:" Yeah, Vidot seems good quality... I mean we had Tuquiri last year at 35. Let's talk turkey"

Souths:"We'll give you a 1 year contract on $100K. Also, Dylan Walker and Ava will be walking straight back into the squad 6 weeks. Plus we'll need Bennett to approve it"
Vidot: "Ahh. No thanks."

Bennett: "We're off to Auckland and Todd Lowrie is our 18th man"
Vidot: "**** I have fallen from grace. I need a week off to take all this in. Maybe I shouldn't have had that extra drumstick at Christmas that seems to have completely obliterated my credentials as an NRL player."

BHQ: Go to Souths. Maranta is SOOOO much better than you! You were shit last year anyway and can't finish a try or catch a ball and are so slow (notwithstanding that Maranta and Kahu couldn't do that last year either and Vidot hauled our noses out of the mud from our own half every set week in, week out because our other wingers: read Maranta - hit a defensive line like a wet towel). Footy is all about the triez man!

Bennett was so right to drop your arse.

Which is why I didn't Allo.

Possibly, we'll see.

Hang on.

Nobody has said anything about it stopping Vidot from playing well, it's just stopping him from playing the style he should be in the NRL.

The Walkers have a completely different style of play to pretty much any team in the competition. Having him spend time in the middle when really he needs to work on his wing skills isn't giving him every opportunity to improve.

It isn't on the Jets, it's on Bennett.

That's who he is assigned to long before the season starts. What's the alternative have him at Redcliffe, Norths or Wynnum or CQ playing rubbish football and getting beaten?

You can't move players around based on style.

Standing watching other teams take shots at goal won't improve his wing play either.

You say quality.

I say enigmatic.

You say cast off.

I say played him in reserve grade to work on his issues where he decided he deserved better after little to no time and got his management to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The Vidot situation is like the glass half full/empty principal as far as I'm concerned.

People are overlooking he's played either ISC or NSW Cup at every club he's been at. That's across three NRL clubs. All those coaches and clubs are wrong?
