Darius Anointed As New Leader

Definitely the right call out of the current crop and it will be interesting to see how he compares to past captains when it's all said and done.

But really, what a turn-around. While he's always had his supporters, I don't think the most ardent Darius Boyd fan would have imagined the level of success he's achieved. Admittedly, I didn't either and I had severe doubts he'd ever replicate his 2010 form ever again. Not only did he replicate that form, he smashed it in 2016 and really put himself back into Hall of Fame discussions after it seemed like a distant memory.

Looking back, there were so many instances where I was on the wrong side of history. Boyd, Blair, Oates, Hodges, Reed...maybe I should keep my mouth shut.

not as bad as mine circa may 2015, "jt is on the downward slope, cows aren't a big threat" or something to that extent.

When Bennett came back I thought the first thing he would do is sack Kahu. I thought we were wasting a spot on a broken down guy who hadn't shown any real talent. Instead Bennett put him straight in the starting lineup and he has been one of our best. That's why we are fans and Wayne is the coach.
I was right about Eden though. Didn't have a clue what Wayne saw in him.

Courier mail saying titans should chase Boyd if Hayne leaves

LOL!

Let's see what the Balding irrelevant bull says about that.

Wayne tends to find great wingers or shockers, not much in between.

Great:
Sailor, Hancock, Tuqiri, Carne

Shockers:
Manihera, Bott, Irwin
I remember Brett plowman playing when I was a kid. Im not sure which side of the ledger he fell, but he was so different to any other winger at the time, massive. He might have been the inspiration on which player like Oates have been developed. Still the likes of Oates are lucky to have Boyd to be mentored by. As much as size, speed and skill are great, that professional attitude to application of talent and when and where to use it is just if not more important.

I've always had a soft spot for Darius. Well done that man.

Oh, and did @Big Pete badmouth Hodges? I've always enjoyed reading your posts maye but as of this moment you're dead to me.

Haha, I know right?

Yeah there was a period of time after he did his achillies where I was leaning towards letting Hodges go for the balance of the side. The impression I had was that he had to be the highest paid player at the club, but ultimately due to his track record with injury he wasn't going to help the club win the big games so I'd rather invest it in the young guys who were all coming off contract the following year.

Essentially, it was following the Broncos '96 model where you move all these really good players on since their best is behind them and you go with youth. Except in that instance the Broncos had Lockyer, Webcke, Thorn, Tallis, De Vere and Mundine coming to the club. Even when the Broncos signed the Dally M Centre of the Year, Hodgo still left a massive void and the side really missed him.

@Renegade I'm pretty sure I was right there with you on the Cowboys. Something to the effect that I had always had a soft spot for them, but after 2011-14 I was tired of them under delivering and 2015 looked no different. I think I even knocked JT for his form and then the very next game he pulls it out of the fire against Melbourne and the rest they say is history. My only solace is that I was adamant Granville had to be their starting hooker over on Stampede when they were looking at other options.

I think if Boyd were made Captain and things do not go his way, he could have a meltdown, he has battled depression and to his credit has come out of it the other side for the better and has been brave enough to speak about it, I admire that. But I think being Captain would put way too much pressure on him and it will affect his game and possibly his life if he is made Captain and the high expectations of the Broncos are not met on the field.
Looks like I have already been proven correct in my assessment of having Boyd as Captain, he breaks down at the press meeting.

Not a good sign.

Do you lot really believe he has the mental toughness to be Captain and that the added pressure will not affect his game?

Lets wait and see but if we have a few losses in a row he could relapse and either just quit or ask Wayne to give it to someone else.

Crying at the press conference should be a red flag but you lot will write it off as being passion. Lets wait and see if I or many others in this thread sit down to a big word meal with a large fries and coke.
