Drugs in sport - government investigation

Why don't they just name them, speculating is even worse...

Yeah, because now every story that's come out delaying a player's season starts to be questionable. Like this:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/n...ther-out-for-six/story-e6frfgbo-1226575168937

GLENN Stewart will miss the first month of the NRL season and could be on the sidelines for up to 10 weeks after having off-season surgery for the second time.

Stewart had surgery to clean out floating cartilage in his left knee on Thursday and will see a specialist again this week in a post-operation check-up.

There is no structural damage or issue with ligaments.

It comes as Penrith general manager Phil Gould this morning revealed promising speedster James Roberts, who was a standout in Penrith's trial win over the Tigers on Friday night, had injured his ankle and would be out for six weeks.

I'm just gonna say that a young up and coming footy player friend of our family who is looking to get a run in a top grade footy side (not NRL) was told to use sterroids to bulk up & the club gave them to him. His parents were furious and took him to the doctor who told him not to take them, but he did anyway because he would have had no chance in getting the required size.

North Sydney Bears player Curtis Johnson who obviously has links with South Sydney Rabbtiohs but has never played NRL, has been the first linked due to a text message to someone saying he took roids in the offseason to keep big. Bears said all his tests came back clean. I'll try and grab a link.

What a moron.

Typical sports-star (if you can call a depth player that) though. They just never think.

I actually liked him from the small amount of Bears games I saw and the few trial matches he played for us.

The main gripe I have with it all though. Are these the NRL "Stars" we can continue to expect to be names? A bloody NSW Cup player.

Yep, typical scumbag News Limited media. Hate how they're dragging our game through the mud to protect the AFL and the Labor government.

News? Protecting labor? Wtf

I don't know if he meant News itself or just this whole NRL investigation was a smoke screen for the AFL and also for the Labor headlines that have been quietly been moved further inside the paper.

No doubt the govt motive was a distraction, but news certainly no fan of them.

Or News just are too stupid to realise, and probably pretty happy their name won't be being dragged into the NRL shit storm.

Yes, I got a bit too greedy throwing the government in with my anti-news rhetoric.

Although, unless times have really changed in the past 4 years, the first hand impression I had, at least locally, was that it leaned towards Labor.

Going a bit off topic, but yes, they were very anti-Howard late in the piece and were right into Kevin Rudd in 2007, through 2008, then late 2009 it all changed.

They've been deathriding the govt ever since. Hence why the government had a media inquiry, Bob Brown called "Murdoch" the hate media etc.

This issue has no doubt been raised as a distraction. However, if it goes public that it's about 3 players in AFL and 6 in the NRL, unbeknownst to the clubs themselves, it will blow up in the government's face. Big time. There has to be a massive widespread scandal there or they've just shot themselves again.

I hope it doesn't get to the stage of them clutching at straws and with hitting out at d grade players playing in the bush with headlines like "NRL hopefuls busted for drugs."

According to Brent Read on Twitter the Six Clubs are...North Queensland, Penrith, Canberra, Manly, Newcastle & Cronulla.

News had AFL bombers won 12 from 13 to be 2nd place on ladder. then 2nd half of season lost 11 from 13 - ladder 4th last or something like that
twice as many soft tissue injuries as any other clubs and there season fell apart . What's going on with the training and drugs last year ?
