How should the club spend 800k?

from everything I've seen (at least reported) from both Cobbo and Kevvie, Cobbo isn't demanding a spine position because it isn't his preferred position.

the move for Cobbo to play fullback has been driven by the fans (and the media (likely after visiting fan sites)). and this move has likely come from desperation with Isaako and Niu taking turns at fullback and being poor in the position.

we've now got some options in TMM and potentially Farnworth. so we can allow Cobbo to play in his preferred positions
The club earmarked Cobbo for fullback when we let Walsh go and I think there have been comments form the club that he’ll be fullback. I think he’s our most promising fullback option and he would be great at it but he doesn’t have the confidence yet. Give him 3 years or so to establish himself and I think he’d do a much bette job transitioning

We should offer him a release to re-sign him on a new deal.

The big issue here is his player manager wants a cut of being his manager but can't get a cent until after 2024.

Just draw up a new contract without all the bullshit demands OR don't get paid any extra for being his manager.

We're in the box seat here especially after how much damage this has done to his brand.

Hold form Iky
I’ll preface this with saying that I have absolutely no knowledge on how these things work but I would think that the deal would have to be fairly different from the ones that have already been offered otherwise his previous manager could make an argument that he sourced the contract and is entitled to a cut. Probably part of the reason they want Haas to change clubs so bad.

I think you'll find most of the comments about him being earmarked for fullback have come from journos themselves ... the actual quotes we along the lines of "he/I can also play fullback"

"Also" being the key indicator that fullback wasn't their priority position.

Cobbo himself has always said in interviews when asked he preferred position Is anywhere in the back 5 and he just loves playing footy, he could be happy staying on the wing and giving him a roving role like Rapana for the Raiders.

Farnworth is the one who's come out and said he wants to be a fullback and backed himself to play there hence the 1 year deal as a trial basically.

Martin is a 6 that can play fullback but he's a out and out 6 like Drinkwater and probably would jump at a starting position in the halves specially back home in NZ.

Cobbo should stay in the centre's or Wing IMO Herbie and TMM should be our options at 1, TMM does things Herbie doesn't and Herbie does things TMM doesn't. But TMM isn't going to be strong in kick returns ever but Herbie could pick up ball playing

I would be very surprised if a player that can play Fullback well would ever prefer to play another position though, you get soo much freedom as a 1 plus much less defensive work.

It’s a very tough question with no right answer and hopefully smarter men than you or I are all over it but assuming TMM and the team continue current form until the end of this season I would probably do something like the below.

2023:
1. Martin
6: Mam
7: Reynolds
9. Paix + someone (Walters I guess).

Mozer can get 1 or 2 games toward the end of the season if injury/suspension permits.

2024:
Assuming no major mishaps

Rd 1
1. Martin
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
9. Paix + Mozer

Cobbo to have opportunities when injury or suspension impact Martin.

2025:
1. Cobbo
6. Mam
7. Hopefully Reynolds for a final year
9. Mozer + someone
You’re kidding yourself if you think it is 2 and a half years till Cobbo is the fullback. Martin is good and as such I’m giving him next year at best at the back. Can’t even guarantee him that. Mam will be starting next year I agree same with Paix and someone. But I think come 2024 Mozer will be in the 9 jersey. The best product in ‘15 years’ doesn’t wait till they are 20/21 to get a starting spot when there competition is Paix. It’s the reality I get we want to be cautious but that’s just how this shit works. Once he gets his debut I give it a handful of games till he is starting. Unless the debut happens unexpectedly soon (which is HIGHLY unlikely).

I guess you could describe JT as a journalist

Would you be jumping to join the Warriors at the moment? If there was a choice between staying in Brisbane with what looks like the club on the up and a potential premiership window opening or going to the Warriors in their current state it is a no brainer for me.

Big difference with TMM is NZ is his home, during his retirement he went back there did the things he loved doing with his brothers, the stuff he missed out on because he came over to Aus as a 16-17 year old. So I think if he's given the opportunity he might choose family over a premiership.

Look how long it took Latrell to move to Fullback, all that matters is what works for the team, moving players to positions to make them happy is loser bullshit.

I get that Mozer is a highly talented kid but lets relax on this, how many times have we been in this position of bringing in highly rated youngsters only for them to be chewed out, once he gets to first grade thats when we can start working out the full picture of his potential.

His competition will be Walters, if Paix keeps progressing like he has been I can't see him being easily disposed anytime soon. At current he is probably the most improved Hooker in the game and has been key to our 2nd half surges.

Yeah their is an element of development but 2 and half years is just being a pussy.

only if you think he should move to fullback.

at most I would move him to center

TMM has done more to fix our FB issues since Darius Boyd was in form (I'll let you do the math on that!).

We've had heaps of "the next best thing" coming through over the years, including this years solution to all FB ills (Tesi Nui), but NO ONE has put the runs on the board like TMM.

The entire squad is currently clicking, but in the space of 6 won games, half of you are putting TMM to the sword and throwing Cobbo the the meat grinder that chewed up and spat out 5 years of hopefuls and wannabes.

TMM is still young. He could camp out in the FB spot for years if he does his job. If he doesn't, we've got the potential cattle to trial - Cobbo and Herbie.

Also: whilst the fans love winning, football is a business now, and players WILL move on. All the hypotheticals at the moment will have as much validity as most of my multi's in a years time!

The only guy we've signed to a long term deal is Kotoni Staggs. He's the only winger or centre NOT to be in the top try scorer's list atm.

My point, i guess: I'm pretty happy with it all right now. We've got a lot of flexibility, and not a lot of ego. Payne dumbHass aside. DD and Ben running the office, Kevvie getting some spirit back in the squad. I'm just enjoying the feeling of hope :)

It looks like the playmaking fullback(thinking TMM and Drinkwater) is back in play, it probably helps that we have really good meter making outside backs though, Not sure if going to a running fullback would work as well for our team balance, of course it means we probably have less to offer in the middle fullback wise but our edge attack has sharpened massively because of the good ball.

That said we can always give our outside backs more license to roam to make up for that.

Cobbo’s long term position should be centre imo. May end up there next year if we move Herbie to fullback. I hope we can keep TMM though I think we need him to challenge for a premiership.

as for a spine of cobbo,May,Reynolds, mozer next year - zero chance, I’m sure 1910 would say that also. We’ll be challenging for a prem next year, we’re not gonna blow that with inexperience.
