Maranta at his best will only be average and I think it wouldn't be too hard to find a better winger. Hell we found one in another 18 year old who is a 2nd rower. One of his problems is definitely his weight, he's too fat. If a first grade winger doesn't have it in him to be disciplined with what he eats then he probably doesn't deserve to be first grade. The guy has had one too may hotdogs at the game. As professional footballers they have to take it seriously and his gut tells me he is just coasting on his families good name.

i think that is a load of complete nonsense. Maranta is obviously overweight but it is bulk not fat. his problem isn't eating KFC, it is the fact that he obviously tried to add more weight in the gym over summer and it hasn't suited his game.

I doubt that, he's lazy and his gut and fat ass are proof. I saw multiple times where he would just watch guys instead of running back to cover. Geez there was a good one there where one man stepped through them all to grab a ball in goal, you can see him on the slow motion watch the ball instead of trying to knock it dead. I can't remember which Bronco player it was, but someone was further away turned around and almost got to the ball. If he was able to do that than Maranta who was closer should have been able to, but he was happy to stand and watch someone else put in the effort. It's not the first time he has done this and Hodges many sprays at him are justified.

Surely this maranta fan boy is taking the piss. Maranta is an absolute basket case, the fact him and griffin still have a job baffles the mind. Both as useless as each other.

I think people are forgetting just how far down the order Maranta actually is, he isn't our first choice winger and wouldn't be selected ahead of a few others.

You're just a bit disconnected from reality then. List the top 10 wingers from other Nrl teams and you'll find loads of wingers who are even worse

He is probably a good honest toiler of a footballer. I haven't seen anything to suggest he is anything more. He's not fast, agile or athletic enough for the outside backs. He's not defensively good enough for the centres. He's not creative enough for the halves and he's not a forward conversion project.
In a different generation or at a squad under different circumstances - not just dropping its 1st choice fullback (Norman), and losing its 1st (Yow Yeh), 2nd (Beale), 3rd (Copley), 4th (Gagai) and 5th (Kahu) choice wingers and centres (Hodges) to injury or other clubs in the last 18 months, he would be struggling to make the cut at all.

Hook is a good coach. He coached the 2008 Under 20's Broncos all the way to the finals with Ben Hunt, Josh Hoffman, Josh McGuire, Andrew McCullough etc
