McCullough v HUnt

McCullough or Hunt?

Macca has played over a season at hooker while Hunt has played no more than 10 games in the postion and looks much better. Both will be good players but IMO Hunt offers the team more at the moment..

I must be watching a different team. Mac was one of our better players last night, especially in defense.

Macca always defends well, it is his rubbish service out of dummy half that is no good.

I think people need to realise that Macca made close to 50 tackles last night in just under 60 minutes. Of course Hunt is going to look sharper coming fresh off the bench and playing 20-30 minutes at the end of a game.

It's rather premature to say Macca isn't the goods at this stage of his career. How fickle is everyone around here, you were all jizzing over him a year ago.

Who's saying he's not good enough? Talk about being dramatic.

Very good point but

Somebody mentioned that Mac or Hunt wouldnt be able to play 80mins, correct me if im wrong but Mac played 80mins last year so why couldnt he this year.

I'm not saying Mac should be dropped for Hunt but my only concern is that we are sacraficing a foward to have a half/hooker on the bench especially since he is only playing 20mins a game. I would much rather see four fowards on the bench. What is going to happen when Hodges comes back??? You cant tell me we are going to have Glen, Gillet, Hunt and one prop on the bench. I dont think so.

I think hunt gives better direction to the fowards but Mac's defence is very good. We can only afford to have one hooker otherwise we loose to much in thje foward department.

Our key weakness is McC at 9. He is just not the goods. He's competently average.

That's rnabokov though! He's the most negative poster on BHQ. [icon_wink

Oh ning, I'm so depressed! How can you be so cruel! I'd jump out the window but then it's well known we Polaks live in basements.

Call me crazy but I reckon there's an argument to having BOTH Hunt and McCullough on the field at the same time as Locky and Wallace at times. Yes, concern about too many cooks etc, but McCullough is strong enough defensively and running the ball to play a roving back row role similar to Berrigan did in Origin before he left for England, while Hunt can concentrate on dummyhalf work, and provide a decent 3rd kicking option.

It could be a strong move late in each half as the opposition is tiring.

Just a thought.

However, I would still keep Macca as starting hooker. His defence makes him a must there. I just wish he'd work on his service from dummyhalf. And no, I'm not being a sheep about it, I've been complaining about it for 12 months!

My only concern is having both of them in the team weakens our foward pack. I think we either need to stick with one or the other. For mine that means McCollough needs to play 80mins. Looking to the future assuming Glen will be back about the same time as Hodges from injury our bench would seriuosly lack size. Going off form and assuming no injuries i imagine our bench would have to look something like this if hunt and Mac both play
14. Hunt
15. Glen
16. Gillet
17. Anderson/Kenny/Dodds/McCguire/Sims

See the point I am making, IMO come finals time we wont be able to afford to have both in the team. Glen can come off the bench and play almost any position. If McCollough really needs a rest the Glen can play hooker.

Having Mac and Hunt both in the team will come back to bite us in the arse!@!@!@!@!@!

I agree but if there are any injuries/suspensions to a back rower, so we have 2 props on the bench, then I wouldn't mind having both Hunt and Macca in the team and having Macca spend a bit of time in the back row like Coxy said. Until one of the two find some real form or can play 80 minutes successfully.

I was thinking the same thing just today. :) icon_thumbs_u

We need to give Hunt more time at hooker IMO. Macca has great potnetial but Hunt is playing better at the moment IMO.

Macca is ok. He'll always be ok. Hunt has so much more to offer, now, and as he gains experience

At his best, Macca is the better hooker but at the moment that is not the case. Not saying drop Macca but he does need to improve. His service last year and pre-injury this year was very good, not sure what has happened. It must be Wallace's fault

Yet again we agree! [icon_lol1.

Though I can't see how you can say Macca is the better hooker when Hunt is showing so much more over the last 4 games. I don't think Macca's form has declined. I think Hunt is casting a bigger shadow and Macca is standing in it.

New Broncos fan. Obviously hasn't watched any of the 2009 season...
