CROSS FORUM NRL 2023 Round 25 Discussion

I wonder how much longer before Payten's job starts getting questioned
He's safe as houses. The cowboys are like us last year. Moments of brilliance but not the full package. The proof will be in the pudding when Townsend retires. They are investing in a home grown halfback and we all know how that ends up!!

They're nothing like us.

Kevvie has steadily improved the side each season in his 3 season as coach. each season has improved on the previous one.

Payten has also been in charge for 3 seasons, he's had one good season surrounded by 2 shit ones.

almost every player has improved under Kevvies watch ... I can't say the same about the Cowboys players and Payten

Cotter is averaging 53 minutes this year. He's a high workrate guy and he's being used as some kind of impact prop lol. Baffling.

By all means keep playing an over the hill granville too. He loves him.

If I were the Cows, I'd consider this next year:
1. Drinkwater
2. Taulagi
3. Holmes
4. Valemei
5. Chester
6. Dearden
7. Clifford
8. Taumololo
9. Cotter
10. Neame
11. Nanai
12. Luki
13. Cotter

14. Duffy
15. Leilua
16. McIntyre
17. Hess

2 Cotters?

I’d consider a new coach….his player management is laughable. I hope it continues for a millennium.

Honestly, how does one turn the most damaging forward into a kitten and then have an 80 min lock play 50 minutes in the middle?

I LOVE IT!

It reminds me of this guy on instagram saying the cows will win the premiership even though the season is nearly over

Would love to know if Gus still thinks the cows are a finals threat. "Greatest mind in footy....." :rofl

Gallen already called him out on it. Told Gus he was speaking out both sides of his mouth. As per usual.

tempted to drop some money on the tits this week got a feeling there 7 is going to have a cracker

This is absolute rubbish. Can't believe I am going to defend payten. Taulagi, Cotter, Nanai, Neame, Dearden, Drinkwater, Luki, Robson were all not even on the radar of the public before last year. Several of them are internationals or made origin squads/games.

I had us winning the spoon or making the bottom 4 last year. Can criticise Payten for alot of things. Player development is not one of them. He gave Reece Walsh his start if I'm not mistaken.

I dont rate Valemei as a center. Think he isnt good enough defensively either. He is a younger feldt. Brainsnaps galore. Laybutt looked good when he played and we have Vailea coming over. Haven't seen enough of him. Unfortunately for Chester I don't think he is able to play anywhere other than fullback at a first grade level. Maybe as a 14.

I would go with this

1. Drinkwater
2. Taulagi
3. Holmes
4. Laybutt
5. Valemei
6. Dearden
7. Clifford (
8. Taumalolo
9. Robson
10. McLean
11. Nanai
12. Luki
13. Cotter

Bench
Hess
Neame
Leilua
Finefeuiaki

We all know Townsend is going to play though. Wouldn't be against getting rid of McLean either. Forward depth is not the problem. Feldt and Valemei is a major weakness.

You have to play cotter and taumalolo more mins. Especially cotter. Just ruins their strengths.

You cant be serious with Drinkwater, Robson or even Dearden. Drinkwater and Robson were always well known talents before they even got to the Cowboys. Dearden was very well know in Queensland. To say they werent on the radar of the public is just plain wrong.

Drinkwater had beaten off Hughes ( before his switch to 7 ) and Papenhauzen to be Slaters replacement and only that pec injury stopped it. Drinkwater was doing OK at the Cowboys before Payten, i think Payten just dropped on a good formula when Hamiso got injured. He was always a good fullback before Payten though, just never got a run of games.

Robson was starting hooker for the Junior Kangaroos and both the u18 and u20 nsw sides. He wasnt some nobody.

They have both played a lot of good footy under Payten tbf, especially Drinkwater but Robson was doing a great job even when Green was in charge.

Robson was not at the level he has got to now. Drinkwater was talented but he never harnessed it. He was rocks and diamonds. Dearden was awful at the broncos. I hated the signing. He has flourished under Payten.

What about the other guys? You can't use junior rep teams as a reason that they were already established. Plenty of guys that were guns in the lower grades who never got to those heights in first grade.

I am low on Paytens rotations and some of his selections and recruitment but there is no argument the amount of very good young players he has developed. I didn't see Cotter becoming this. He was a backup hooker at one stage. I can't agree with the not making players better argument of the pushback on the guy.

I pretty much knew about every single player on your list. I wouldnt be the only one either. Your point was they werent on anyones radar when some clearly were. They just benefited from playing in a side performing well more than Paytens coaching, as we are seeing this year.

The players simply arent fans of Payten.
