[OFFICIAL] Anthony Milford to Broncos

It was just an interview with Stuart. Not much new was said. Said that Raiders had made him a big offer - didn't directly refute or affirm the million dollar figure. Mentioned that if he went to Brisbane, they'd better be paying him that much under the cap. Said all the speculation about Milford is coming out of Brisbane.
My favorite quote from Stuart - "We're not going to be playing games about it".

You can't trust a word out of tricky Ricky's mouth but I got the sense that Milford's gone for 2015 at least and they're just trying to a) make a stand after all the blokes who've walked out and Milford's paying the price and b) want to make the Broncos pay as much as possible. But that's just my opinion.

Maybe.

Getting over all the other hurdles, the salary cap auditors have to be happy that his incoming salary is market value. They love using some hocus pocus bullshit (remember the Israel Folau drama that cost the NRL his signature) to intervene with market forces.

But surely the $1M "taunt" from Canberra can't be given to much weight in that process?

How does their ridiculous offer have any impact on us?

He didn't say it directly but I'm sure in his mind, he thinks that if they've offered him a million, he is to be valued at a million under the cap.

the difference between the Folau and Milford situations with regards to the cap auditor, is that The Eels had no cap space left and were trying to register him for something stupid like 50k for the first year. understandably the Eels were told it wasn't going to happen. by the time they were finally able to free up a more appropriate amount, Folau had become impatient and went to union instead.

with Milford, there is no way that the NRL cap auditors will rule that a rookie with less than 20 games under his belt is worth anywhere near $1 million a season, so as long as we offer him around 300k we should have no problems.

If the NRL rule we have to register Milford under the cap at close to the Raiders reported offer, then it sets a bad precedent. for the next time any club has a player they are desperate to keep, all they would have to do is publicly have it reported that they offer is 3 times market value so the prospective club can no longer afford the value.

It might be a big mistake offering a million dollars for Milford's signature. He showed a lot of potential in his rookie season but he isn't worth anything close to that yet and paying overs for a player can damage the player considerably just like Chris Sandow.

I would offer Milford a contract at a price range between $300,000-$400,000 range.

Ok then, looks like hoffy will be leaving sooner rather than later,so let's wait til we find out which club wants him and the deal is essentially done and offer him 3 million, and they will have to pay that much, cos you know, Ricky said so

Would be funny if Milford said. Ok I'll take the million. Ricky must be a knockout at playing charades.

For a million dollars a year I would live with Ricky. ( naw **** that) there's not enough money in the canberra mint for me to do that.

You can't see that backfiring and Hoff agreeing to stay?

While I don't agree with the valuation idea you'd have to be willing and able to go through with the offer

I was just trying to point out how utterly ridiculous this whole idea sounds

There's a reason the raiders are offering him more than the Broncos, because he doesn't want to live in Canberra and he wants to live in Brisbane, simple. It doesn't have a bearing on the legitimacy of the Broncos offer or his intangible value to a football side, the auditor appraises a contract as a whole package, not just the dollar figure.

I am a huge fan of Milford, but anything over 350 or so K is ridiculous for a rookie who hasnt shown any real halfback skills yet.

Huh? Halfback skills? Why does that have any bearing on contract size.

Well I guess we know why the roosters could sign SBW and Jennings so easily, must be on 200k contracts... No halfback skills

I see Alec's point, you guys are buying him as a half where he's still unproven in first grade, if you were buying him as a fullback where he's proven he'd be worth over that figure

Proven what....?

His fullback game has huge holes in it......

He defends better in the front line and imo shows signs of developing a much better passing game than many give him credit for. I think he's a half.

Probably a 7 the more I think about it. Give him some real time in the position and he'll end up being one of the greats.

Has less holes than Barba in his fullback play, especially at his age.

His passing and kicking are coming along better than I thought and definitely see him moving into the halves in the years to come but less pressure at fullback so good place to blood him, let him chime in rather than expected to run the show.

See him more as a 5/8 than halfback, his running will always be his main strength, not really an organiser look at the difference in Benjis games when he was a 6 and 7.
