[Official] Broncos sign Darren Nicholls

I've got to admit I would be too but competition for spots is not a bad thing and who knows, this guy might just set the ISC alight.

For mine though, the Broncos ought to give players like Taylor etc a shot first.

I get the feeling my fellow posters are expecting Nicholls to walk in a replace Hoffman. Am I wrong? I hope so.

I don't really care who replaces Hoffman. Hoffman getting out of the halves is the key here. If we signed him mid season, maybe he has a better chance than anybody else.

Provides more insight than I got tbh. He only started playing for the Roo's this year, but apparently he's looked quite good.

Well, with Barba and Milford and now Nicholls (I should also count Kennedy for what we are paying him), is there anyone out there who has accused another club of buying a premiership? I honestly can't remember.

He's at Norths nothing more at this stage.

You can see the thought process behind it, all of the other names mentioned for the Five-Eighth role are all 22 or younger, with limited ISC experience, this guy is 24 and has done a lot more work against men, would be a much safer option at Five-Eighth than one of the young guys at this stage (And Hook is all about safety)

none of that trio is up to first grade standard yet, even if / when fit... Hunt is the only specialist first grade half at the broncos atm

I think everyone is giving our coaching staff too much credit. Why would anyone think that the coach even thinks there might be a problem in the halves. After all it was his bonehead idea to take a perfectly good winger and make him into the NRLs worse. 5/8 . Who would know what Griffen thinks, I have given up trying to follow him and I have nearly given up watching the Broncs this year. But if this guy can goal kick and pass the ball then why not give him a go and send Hoggman back to the wing where he belongs.

He's been signed and SACKED, by damn near every NRL team ... i highly doubt any club is prepared to give him another chance

For real? There is no way in hell we would sign tomato again.

Why is this a bad move. What is bad about signing a guy that has played years of 2nd tier instead of bloody young guys that obviously aren't ready?

If our young guys are so affected by a bit of competition then they can **** off

I really hope Griffen sees what we all see but I guess after playing Hoggman all season at 5/8 , why should we think he will change anything now? I have become very pessimistic about Griffen's ability to make any sort of strategic change, and with good reason . Maybe this guy will be a bench warmer or a Q cup player who they have bought as a back up goal kicker when Corey is playing origin or gets injured. I have to see Griffen do something smart before I believe it,

Someone always throws up Dr Taumata. He's not even playing footy anymore (at any level of note) as far as I'm aware. But yeah we should definitely sign someone who's been to 7 clubs, played 1st grade at only 3 for a combined 14 games, the last of which being in 2012.

To be fair to our juniors, if Nicholls gets a first grade callup in the next few rounds, I would completely understand if they were insulted by that. This is not a matter of form clearly, as I would argue that regardless of whether Taylor, Pauuauaua (what the **** ever) or Strasser were in average form, all of them would've been still better performers in the 6 than Hoffman has been, and unless they're all dumb, they would know that having watched him butcher so many tries.

Nicholls must be in much better form or Nolan sees something in him in order to leapfrog the rest so quickly, but it's a big gamble on the loyalties of those juniors.
