Origin Scheduling is a joke and a blight to the game.

Re: Sack Griffin

Can you spell this out for me....?

Are you saying that we will have no RL played other than the 3 SOO games in that 3 week window?

You could also have the kiwi Origin concept in that time and televise the under20's Origin as well.

Re: Sack Griffin

I honestly wouldn't have a problem, the media would be absolutely huge and you wouldn't have to worry about too many changes to the side due to club injuries.

It'd also be a great time for NZ to have their own test series with England, an Under 20s competition, maybe even have the Under 18 finals around those times, make it a real NRL feast.

I don't think a Kiwi Origin would work. It's just like, here, now watch your inferior fake Origin with really no history or meaning.

Re: Sack Griffin

So no clubs would play a game in that 3 weeks.

Wouldn't there be a problem concerning match fitness for the 90% of NRL players not involved in the SOO series?

Re: Sack Griffin

The entire competition then has 15 rounds to get it right.

Which is better than the current system.

It probably wouldn't but I had seen the kiwis mention it a bit as an option to help stop kiwis playing Aussie origin.

After not playing for 3 weeks they aren't going to be able to flick the switch on over night. Your 15 weeks may need to shrink a little.

Re: Sack Griffin

Just play Origin over 3 days.

Get it over & done with.

Hold it on a Friday, Saturday & Sunday night.

Problem solved.

Re: Sack Griffin

Not much use in debating it, because it's never going to change, but I'd like to see a change in the format of Origin coincide with a shortening of the season. I think eighteen rounds is a good number, but that will never happen.

Regardless I'd like to see Origin move to standalone weekends - Sunday nights would be a good alternative. Suspend the NRL for the weekend, and play each game three weekends apart, so two club games in between each match for a seven week span in total. I like the idea of running other games on the same weekends to fill the Friday slot. City-Countries, best of the rest style of things, under-20s. Could have a Origin train-on/upcoming stars game, with only players under twenty-two or so eligible. There's plenty of ways you could fill the timeslots.

Of course, let's forget that players would get over their little niggling injuries in that 3 weeks off, meaning they'll be fitter and fresher when the competition resumes.

Sure, they may take a bit of time to get back into their mojo, but the benefits far outweigh the negatives:
- no more bye-affected rounds
- no more games with Origin players unavailable
- no more games with Origin players backing up after less than 48 hours
- less impact of club injuries affecting Origin (bar any that happen before the series starts)
- less controversy of club suspensions overriding Origin (bar before the series starts)
- the origin squads completely focussed on Origin for the whole series, not having to worry about their clubs. I can see the games being even more intense as a result

Honestly, having a 3-week Origin window is an absolute no brainer. It'd also be a great opportunity to have Tests between pacific nations and NZ, or even have Great Britain come out to play NZ (assuming England is happy to have a break in their comp as well, which may be a harder sell).

This is such a great idea. I would vote you as CEO if I could Coxy.

If the Origin players have to play three mentally and physically draining games over 3 weeks and bash themselves like they do now while the rest of the players have time off to freshen up and overcome their niggles how are the Origin players going to be any better off than they are now?
We already rest our players and have breaks due to byes, so it seems to me the Broncos get as much of a break under the current system.

And that costs us premiership points!
Seriously are people really this stupid to not get it???

I think a lot of people underestimate how much impact Origin has on the players physically and mentally, especially such an intense series as this year's. I can imagine how deflated they will be for a period after the series is over, and that coincides with the post Origin depression that you invariably see happening at the clubs with an important representation, such as the Broncos over the years, the Storm, the Dragons last year, etc...

On the other hand, teams like Manly last year and the Dogs this year, get a free pass through the rep season, build match fitness, combinations and confidence.

Having said that, most clubs are able to come back from it, so our current issues are not exclusively Origin related.

The calendar has played a part this year, as when we looked to start playing better again, we met the best three teams in the comp. Combined with atrocious form of playmakers and captain, an injury riddled season with players carrying niggles and the young inexperienced squad, it wreaked havoc with the players heads.

It's fine to be a traditionalist or put Qld ahead of the Broncos, as that's everyone's choice, but blatantly denying it has a big impact on the Broncos is like trying to cover the sun with a sieve.

Different arguements, Coxy. I'm saying that Origin isn't responsible for all our poor footy. Yes we do field depleted sides around Origin but I don't see shutting the NRL down as an option.

Why not?

Take the byes out and the season will only be one week longer - we don't get the pathetic weeks where some teams have byes and the others are depleted, and Nein and Fox get exactly the same amount of games. Where do they lose out?

Some ppl say byes are an issue but it's ok to have 3 complete rnds of byes.

The States will want longer than 7 days to prepare particularly the state that is travelling. It quite often takes until Tuesday or Wednesday after the Sunday game before all players are cleared so teams will have preparation time cut to a minimum so I can see players being asked or forced not to play for their clubs the weekend prior to the first Origin.

The States will probably need more than the 17 players picked in the first squad so it makes selecting replacements much harder when you can't watch players particularly if you have a toss of the coin selection.

It makes the season longer and it doesn't give the Broncos Origin players any more down time than they are already getting.
