Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Somehow, I can't see that happening. I think the way the Eels are playing now, with Hayne and Sandow in the form they are now, they are actually in this with a real chance. Their in-your-face defence v Manly in the 2nd half was every bit as good as the Cowboys were v Souths.

the thing is as soon as the eels are away from pirtek they are half the team they are at home. so, while i dont actually expect it, i'll keep my hopes up they go bust.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

All it would take for the Eels to go bust is an injury to Hayne

We weren't too flash when hunt played shit.
Shows how critical playmakers r n how fortunate some teams r that have 2 standout halves

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Beat the Dragoons and hope the Chookens beat the Sturms. This is our mantra. Can't see the Tits pipping the Dawgs in round 26 and the Eels have a Silver Service run to the finals. Cowgirls are off in the sunset with +175 so unless unManly do a number on them, and I mean a record breaking holy crap 4 Cowgirls died but they let play continue style number, the sad fact is....we have to cheers for the Steggles next week. It's gonna hurt but I'll probably do it.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

i still think the eels going balls up is our best chance.

i dont really want to be playing storm in a 'playoff' for eighth.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

I think Eels could lose the game against Raiders. They haven't won in Canberra since 2006. They have a shit record there.

Knights have also lifted at home lately.

Eels don't have any guaranteed wins.

Yeah but ... Ricky!

I agree with this. He is the Eels.

With him in the team, based on the way they literally smashed Manly in the 2nd half, and the fact they are playing to stay in the 8, I just cannot see them losing their next 2 games unless Hayne gets injured.

If they win their next 2, I can't see how we can get into the 8 even if we win our remaining matches.

As I keep saying, if only Barba had played where he should have from the start at 5/8, or, alternatively, Hoffman never played at 5/8, we would be in the 8, and that alone for me is sufficient reason for Hook to be sacked. He sacrificed our season with that idiotic team selection

We have 2 standout halves - trouble is, only for the last third of the season.

hopefully mullen is back for the knights this week.

So true. I believe it was largely a move for diplomatic reasons, and despite trying hard, Hoffman just wasn't cut out for it. Our left edge has looked much sharper since the switch. It really did hamper us, and who knows how things might have panned out with Barba (or another option) in the 6.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

I think we can all admit that poor coaching has cost us this season. Surely Hook has no supporters left at this point. We might still luck our way in to the finals but it is so strongly dependent on external results that Hook can't claim any real credit for it.

I don't blame a single player. Yeah Barba was quiet at fullback and Kennedy was soft but if the most elusive player in the NRL can't find a way through the line and if one of the heaviest players in the nrl can't make metres you have to look at the coach. So many of our good players have had very average seasons and I think it's too much of a coincidence to believe they all had a simultaneous form slump.

Hook was always average but he can pin point his mishandling of Josh Hoffman as his potentially career ending error.

As a fan I really hope we do fluke a finals appearance. I think we have a roster that deserves to be there at the end of the year. Injury has finally forced hook to chose our best line up and the boys missing the finals would be them being punished for hooks incompetence. With our current team list we could bear any team on our day. Though it would be hilarious if everything falls in place and Hoffman is named fullback game 1 of the finals.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Apparently to some people on Facebook, Broncos beating Knights proved that Hook is a better coach than Bennett.

He still has his supporters. Even though Hook has played a major part in our downfall.

Hahaha. What a joke. It's baffling to be completely honest

I am sure Hook has lots of good points. I'm sure we will find out what they are at his next club

pretty much this. he bent the team over to accommodate hoffman, its as simple as that. he was never going to work at 6, it was obvious after the first two games of the season, yet it continued for how long? and then, moving him out of 6 was 'forced' due to barbas lack of confidence under the high ball. so the decision wasn't even "its time to move hoffman out of 6".

Well Q cup gets one game televised a week, so we should be able to assess this a couple of times a year
