POST GAME Qualifying Final - Broncos vs Cowboys

1. Boyd - He was solid at best last night but my big concern with him is his positioning, he is regularly out of position at fb. He manages to scramble well but even in attack his timing seems off. If he can click in two weeks time, that will be huge for us. 6
2. Oates - Is there anything this kid can't do, all the skills on show last night. Caught out of position in attack and defense a few rare times but what a player he already is and will be. 8
3. Reed - For a second rower masquerading as a centre, hocus doing a fine job. That cover defense was sublime and a few memorable try savers. 9
4. Hodges - We are really going to miss him next year. He should have drawn a number of marker offside penalties and didn't overplay his hand with his runs. Good game. 8
5. Kahu - Played his role without doing anything spectacular but safe as a house. 7
6. Milford - I know he won't get the praise that he did against the Rabbits but I thought last night was almost as good but in a very different way. He defended very well compared to last time out against Morgan and injected himself at the right times and when he needed to. 9
7. Hunt - The kicking game seemed to take a step back from the last third of this season but that was because of some very good Cowboys defense and he did show a varied kicking range. That try was amazing and he is running this team very well. Still room for improvement which is exciting! 8
8. Thaiday - He is running with so much energy and venom these days, very important player to our go forward. 9
9. McCullough - His defensive work rate and qualities were really on show last night and his touch finding kick was well timed and well needed. 8
10. Blair - What a game from him. He defended his socks off, took some big runs and is the complete opposite to the hack we has earlier in the year. He is so important to this team now. 9
11. Glenn - High work rate as always and runs brilliant lines when in the red zone. 7
12. Gillett - Has put away the flash and become a gritty, rock solid player who makes important runs and defends his socks off. 8
13. Parker - He could all his limbs and still be the best lock in the game, absolute machine and very lucky he still has a year or two left in him. 9

14. Wallace - He has become a very good bench player as he runs hard and defends well, will be interesting to see where his career goes from here. 8
15. Dodds - Tackles anything that moves but still doesn't do much in attack. 6
16. Joffa - Brilliant game and he could be anything. His runs and covering defense late in the game were brilliant! 9
17. Kikorima - First touch and creates a try, our finals x-factor! 8

JakeG would be hurting this morning. He was terrorised in that first twenty or so by our forwards.

That was certainly part of the gameplan and pretty smart thinking by Mr Bennett, it definitely impacted his effectiveness.

Just finished watching the replay this morning after being at the game last night - Saw myself on TV too,.

I took some notes while I was watching the replay...

Blair - His defensive job on Taumalolo was superb. He smashed him a few times in the first half which really limited his impact.

Thaiday - He was inspirational. His runs in the first half set the tone for our forwards all game. He really led from the front, which had a big positive flow on effect to our younger guys...

Wallace -
I thought his work off the bench was great. He had strong carries, ran for like 90m, was solid in defence and made a few very important tackles to shut down plays.

Joe O - Off the bench, I thought he too, was fantastic. Some of his runs were very strong, taking lead from Thaiday, and he also was great in defence.

Reed - Some of his defence was great. That tackle on Morgan was crucial and he was solid all night.

Macca - Absolute beast in defence. Made 60+ tackles and does it tirelessly. Also had a good kick for touch, but a couple poor kicks too.

Hunt really needs to work on his kicking at the end of games there. About 3 kicks should have found the touch line, but were fielded by the Wingers.

Overall I thought it was a very good team performance. Bring on the week off.

Well... as it stands now, The Broncos now have as good a chance if not better than any other side in the comp. What they proved last night is that they have the toughness to do it. That and they probably have the best health of any side running. Short of Moose, it's the full compliment. Anyone who was worrying about Parker, need not as mentioned the other day, Corey doesn't feel pain, pain feels Corey.

Special props go to Kahu. Boy did he puts some hits galore on last night.

Everything from here on out is bonus time. Wayne and the boys have given us a season to remember and now it's time to do it for their captain who obviously must be doing something right as the collective cool and belief is outstanding.

Once again, I went to bed and awoke this morning with a smile on my face.

Job well done. Now go out and dominate for the next 160 minutes and write your name into history.

Bad news from the weekend is that we're likely to be playing Roosters in 2 weeks time, which will be extremely difficult.

Where we might come unstuck against the roosters is our kicking game. If Hunt kicks it to RTS and Tupou on the full they will be starting their sets near the half way. They carved us up with that last time.

If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best, doesn't matter when you do it semi or final.

I watched Gilett pretty closely and he was one of our best so , better than a half or 5/8 getting it for a change. Normally I wouldn't think the week off was a good thing but for everyone ( I started listing who needed the break but realised I'd be namely virtually the whole team ) in the team it will be hugely beneficial. We need it although of course we could and would have fielded a team next week if needed. If Brisbane and Melbourne win their next games I would go into the gf damn confident in the Broncos. I'm thinking we will be rewarded for our clean style in the rest of the finals and the wrestlers will pay a heavy price.

Phil Gould mentioned it ... But also said that he wasn't involved in the play.

What Gould didn't mention was that we are not playing soccer here. So it doesn't matter whether the offside player had any involvement in the play or not ... Under the rules it is still a penalty for offside.

Not that the refs last night cared about the rules... At one point the ref called Granville offside several times and when Hodges ran into him, no penalty was forthcoming.

That was absolutely ridiculous! He was calling him jake jake jake.. Hodges ran straight at him and everyone knew it was a penalty but all this lead up talk of "keep the whiatle in the pocket refs" bs has made them gun shy.. surely he isn't getting to argue he got back the 10 before touching hodges...

Anyway haha

I'm still concerned about complacency following the week off, especially give the youth of this team. I hope Bennett has them in the right frame of mind in two weeks' time.

I don't know if Hunt kicked as badly as has been made out here. The way our sets go, he so often seems to be kicking from just over the halfway line, and it doesn't give him too many options. He does tend to place his bombs well, and very rarely over kicks it to give up the easy seven tackle restart. I'd rather the chase was better in most instances, but that seems to be our modus operandi these days. And late in the game, sure it would have been great to find the sideline, but the Cows knew what was coming, and the alternative would've been to kick short and give up easy metres.

Having said that, I do wish he got more support from Milford and McCullough.

Considering our team included:

3. Reed
8. Thaiday
10. Blair
14. Wallace
15. Dodds

Would anyone at the start of the year thing we'd come second and be a game away from the GF?

Harry Sack was already sloppy by the time he got to his seat, and after a couple more convinced me that the Cowboys are going to get an easy ride to the GF if they can stay in games. Unless it's a blowout, the refs will be terrified of calling anything back or penalising them while ever they're still in a game. Last night was bullshit, and we still roughed it out. So proud.

I thought it may have been Vossy, but it was Warren Smith and Gary Belcher.

Still better than nine's call and free of the anti-Melbourne sentiment that was brewing in Gus' call.
Haha... I had the volume down to a whisper to not wake up the rest of the house. I thought that was Vossy because of the no nonsense and pretty neutral commentary, but did miss his typical remarks. Belcher was the usual blind idiot.

Could someone please tell me for sure what date the next home final will be. I am thinking Friday 25/09 ? I am trying to book flights today
