Redcliffe trial v Sharks

grrrrrr!... don't they coach him?... I do not want to see that shit this year.

I hope the coach drills into the players that when he does it they chase hard like the ground behind them is turning into lava.

But it's just a trial after all. You can do things like that because it really doesn't matter if you win or lose. There are no 2 points on offer.

I liked seeing them take the tap when they got a penalty in Sharks 20.

Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Sims shut down a play on the 5th tackle and the noise of the tackle echoed around the town.

Think our forwards game 1 will be

8 Sims
9 Macca
10 Blair
11 Gillett
12 Glenn
13 McGuire

15 Joe O/Ese'ese
16 TPJ
17 Thaiday

How many times through out last season did Kahu have to come off the field due to injury when he played in the centres?

Did he even make it through a game in the centres?

Of those you named, only Opacic, Moga and Seve are centres. The latter were disappointing and the former is currently nursing a serious shoulder injury and the jury is out on him at this level.

I have reservations about Kahu in the centres as well. I'm not certain his defence is up to it.

I have a feeling he will be on the Wing.

Steam rolling Sims is going to have a good year i reckon.

Who do you think we get the left centre spot then?

Does anyone think James Roberts could make a good fullback when Boyd retires. He has 3-4 years to learn off Boyd...Mind you im not confident Roberts can stay out of trouble that long lol

Increased injury chance in the centres does not make Kahu a shit centre.

I was thinking 3-4 years lol slowdown the 2017 season hasnt even kicked off and another drama popped up, lets see him get through the rest of the year without a drama.

I'm OK with this because Kahu is a phenomenal winger, but other than Opacic who we've been led to believe won't be fit for the start of the season, who do we have that can defend well in the centres?

Kahu will get first shot at left center, no doubt about it. Then its still Tommy next in line. Nobody else has stepped up yet. Problem is, We are talking March before Opacic is even going to be allowed any contact i believe.

Mead is a centre if you consider he played in the centres as a junior and has played a fair bit at the Titans in that position, however even if he isn't a 'genuine' centre option that leaves us with Roberts, Kahu, Opacic, Seve and Moga as 'genuine' options and Mead, Glenn and Marshall as 'emergency' centre options.

Happy to be wrong, but I suspect many NRL clubs would love those options...

As for Kahu's injuries, he played 20 NRL games and 5 tests for NZ in 2016 and 22 NRL games and 3 tests for NZ in 2015. That is what I meant by his increased durability in recent years and better overall than Reed managed in any of those years...

At the end of the day, the left centre position was a problem for the club and it hasn't been filled yet. Kahu appears to be the right choice, but it remains to be seen whether he can physically handle the defensive demands given he's had to come off the field as recent as last season. That leaves an inexperienced 23 year old who's coming off serious off-season surgery and a few Queensland Cup players.

Last night shaped as a big opportunity for Moga & Seve, neither took their chances. As somebody who saw North Queensland and Melbourne completely tear open that left edge last season, I would have felt far more confident if I knew the Broncos had some depth in that position and weren't so reliant on some very flakey options. :)
