POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

Now Leniu's agent wants the RPLA and NRL to tell players to stop supporting Mam publicly and commenting on whats happened. No comment on how Mam might be having to deal with this, and nothing about Leniu's brother publically commenting with his crass post. Maybe look a bit closer to home first.

He is also saying he is being supported by Ivan Cleary, no mention of Robinson or the rorters which is a little odd.

yeah Cleary came out with the "it's not his go" type comment

That is not what was reported at all.

Read revealed Leniu’s manager fears the public scrutiny will make it impossible for his client to get a fair hearing.

“Players shouldn’t be commenting on or suggesting he is guilty or saying he should be suspended for half the season,” Read said.

“I think that goes too far. I don’t mind them coming out and supporting Ezra Mam. I have no issue with that. They are quite within their rights.

“I spoke to Spencer’s manager and he is worried that he won’t get a fair hearing now because of all the talk of him getting 12 week suspensions.

“He said, the NRL and the players union need to come out and muzzle the players and tell them to stop talking about it.”

If the Roosters lawyer flat out denies difficult to find him guilty with no evidence or referees heard it hard to suspend him for 6-10 weeks

Cant have it both ways, is Leniu's agent wants people to shut up backing Mam, then its a bit hypocritical him bringing Cleary into it when he wasnt there

On Monday, Penrith coach Ivan Cleary expressed his surprise over the allegations involving Leniu.

Leniu played under Cleary for five years at the Panthers before departing for the Roosters in the off-season.

Cleary says the allegations surrounding his former player are “out of character” when asked about the complaint made about Leniu during a Panthers media session on Tuesday.

“I am surprised,” Cleary said.

“I would say it’s out of character.

“It’s going through the channels with the NRL now so everything is being investigated. We’ll see where it leads, but I would say it’s out of character.”

I think Cleary did the only thing he could, said from his experience with him he’s surprised and referred to the NRL.

From what I can recall, they didn't have any concrete evidence that Walsh used abusive language towards the ref last year but they still found him guilty.
Difference there was evidence Walsh swore just didn't know to who, Spencer wasn't recorded saying anything

From what I can recall, they didn't have any concrete evidence that Walsh used abusive language towards the ref last year but they still found him guilty.

They had the full audio. Walsh’s issue was who he was saying it to. The ref thought him and gave a penalty and marched Brisbane 10m. Walsh claims he said it to Carrigan.

The Rugby League Players Association said they were confident the NRL and judiciary would give Leniu fair and due process.

“The RLPA will always take allegations of this nature seriously,” a statement said.

“The matter was placed on report and Spencer has been officially charged, and we are confident the NRL, and judiciary will prioritise a fair and due process in investigating and determining the matter.

“At this point it is crucial the investigation is allowed to be undertaken confidentially and with respect to procedural fairness and natural justice.

“We are working with all parties to ensure that both players are provided with the appropriate support during this process.”

You arent even quoting his agent directly. Maybe read the article from the courier mail where there are direct quotes from Leniu's agent rather than a retell of the story from from Read.

I never really made a comment about Cleary's comment, i made the comment about the hypocrisy from Leniu's agent, and how he doesnt even reference Mam.

“I have known Spencer since he was 13,” Leniu’s agent Joe Nakat said.

“He is a high integrity human being. Secondly, he’s been supported by a guy who has known him since he was 15 in his former coach Ivan Cleary.

“Thirdly, I don’t know what was said but we need to know the meaning or intention of what was said. Lastly, I think it sets a dangerous precedent before the judiciary hearing that there is comment about the issue with the intention of either influencing the outcome or influencing the length of suspension.

“I think it would be helpful if the NRL and RLPA came out and asked players not to comment on it so he can get natural justice, as any player would want.”

Point me in the direction of the quote saying no one should support Mam?

If Leniu said nothing, or something that sounded like the allegations but actually wasn't, surely he would have apologised (or set the record straight) either at the time, or straight after the game. "I didn't say that and I apologise if that's what he thought I said". Instead it was "just banter, leave it on the field", suggesting he did in fact say it but was too dumb to realise the seriousness of what he said.

Even if there is no audio, surely his own comments on the matter, with zero denial, would be damning enough to tip the balance of probability. His further actions, of going at Staggs and then Mam, similarly show that he is not denying what he said, he simply doesn't think it should be something that he should have to answer for (ie, it should stay on the field), once again highlighting how ignorant he is to what he's done.

If he manages to be found not guilty it will be an absolute rort.

They’re going the Harbhajan defence- I said it but that’s not my meaning.

His manager today-

“Thirdly, I don’t know what was said but we need to know the meaning or intention of what was said.“

I said yesterday hair would be the reference.

Well, i gave a link you full article to read, so read it.

You know full well thats exactly what he's trying to do. Being that pedantic about specifics just makes you look like a bit of a knob. People dont need to make direct quotes for anyone with a modicum of intelligence to know what their motives are.

The real kicker though is this quote showing his hypocrisy.

" Lastly, I think it sets a dangerous precedent before the judiciary hearing that there is comment about the issue with the intention of either influencing the outcome or influencing the length of suspension."

He's happy enough to name check Cleary because his comments are positive towards Leniu ( which could influence the MRC ), but he doesnt want people speaking out in support of Mam because it might influence the MRC negativley. I'd say thats pretty clear he doesnt want high profile players supporting him publicly. Dont need a direct quote to come to that conclusion. You might be that black and white, but smart people read between the lines.

Besides all this, i'm sure the MRC arent going to be influenced by Latrell Mitchells post or a statement coming from Cleary anyway.

I love social media, the way fans of other teams are acting, as if they were raised in the slums and had to fight tooth and nail to survive in life.

The reality is, they're unemployed flogs who have never had to face a bit of hardship in their lives but are prepared to trash talk Ezra Mam for getting upset. That my friends, is called the human race. No wonder people commit, what a disgrace.

It’s not just other fans, it’s our fans too. Have seen plenty of white guys that claim to be Broncos fans recounting their tough lives on the streets through daily racist taunts, but they are tough so it never affected them.

I don't really like other players in the league calling for certain suspensions ahead of the judiciary tbh
