[Round 18, 2021] Broncos vs Tigers

Really? He didn't put his foot into touch initially. He was pushed into touch. It happens. He believed he was tackled and was getting up to play the ball. I only saw the one mistake tonight, namely the kickoff. Otherwise he went okay. Bit disappointed he didn't win the catching contest. The forward pass after was let go, unsurprisingly.
His hands still don't work...

His kicking boot seems not to be working very well either...

So I am wondering exactly what it is he brings to the team ahead of any other right winger in the squad?

He is in his 5th season of NRL, has 73 games under his belt, was picked (briefly) for international duties but is now nowhere near them, and is still good for at least 3 boneheaded plays per game...

How many times should we keep trying this guy, before someone else?

The players Kevvie continues to give chances too, keep continually being useless pricks, and then you have guys like Mead(wing only), Oates and Bullemor who always do well and they keep getting dropped.

Mead and Oates on the wings just makes too much sense.. a bigger problem is left centre though. Herbie needs a stint back in isc
I think he is much better suited to a wing. We could do far worse than running with Goates and Shelby on the wing in 2022.

I've said it time and time again, Isaako has 2-3 game changing errors in his game. Croft tried way too hard. Caused so many problems. Our problems are the spine and spine alone.

2nd half w

I think this game could be used as evidence to prove they're intentionally bending us over to introduce a new team. Some of those decisions were deplorable. Kennedy never lost that ball and that tackle to take Isaako out was two movements, and that's just the start of the piss poor calls we copped all day.

In saying that we have many other issues that need to be rectified this year
- Coates should never wear a Broncos jersey again
- Croft is just fucking terrible
- Farnworth is a winger. Look to pass mate, you haven't beaten the last line one on one once yet
- Flegler is the new Ofa. Smarten up or **** off idiot
- Alex Glenn gets tackled one on one by the opposition halfback numerous times every week. Harden up you cat
- Isaako should not only never take a kick off ever again, but he should never wear our jersey again.. There's absolutely no defending kicking it out on the full as often as he does
- I don't think Tesi Niu has what it takes physically to be a fullback
- Does Keenan Palasia do anything?
- TPJ needs to go or take a massive pay cut. He can't do what he's done and stay with us
- Staggs needs to stay in the centre. 2. Oates 3. Brenko 4. Staggs and 5. Herbie for 2022
- Turpin is an absolute handbrake. Every break we made he'd follow it up with a piss poor dummy half run completely negating any positive effect the previous run had. His passing is worse than Macca's ever was too. Slower, less accurate. He's not any good and we simply do not improve next year if he's passing the ball to Reynolds

We are a fullback and a hooker short if we plan on improving next year

Every time isaako has kicked out on the full he is just blank. Doesn’t seem to give a shit and shrugs it off. He’ll never learn.

What about Tass? Is he worth a shot in the centres. And mead surely he deserves another go.

I genuinely think Broncos have panicked after missing out on Hynes, seems like they thought it was a done deal. All talk of spine players (other than Hodgson) has died down since losing Hynes.

Idk depends what you believe, talk out of the broncos was that he was never a possibility because he wanted to be closer to family.

Who knows?

Kennedy never lost that ball
He rolled the ball along the ground which constitutes a knock-on.

that tackle to take Isaako out was two movements
His leg had already brushed the sideline before the second movement.

I thought the replay showed that Maumalo had placed a hand on him with the arm carrying the ball on the ground so it should have been ruled tackle. However it was touch and go and you can live with the call.

I can't remember too many bad calls honestly. Tamou interfered with Croft as he was playing the ball but outside of that they all seemed to be fair.

Too raw. Maybe he'd be OK for a game but defensively he makes Farnworth look like Gillmeister by comparison.

The Croft Herbie combination got exploited, because Glenn takes the decoy every fucking time.

He murders any chance of any defensive edge being able to defend.... simple block play and he takes the decoy on his inside shoulder every fucking time

I keep coming back to this post, because it's happened since Glenn came back into the side, and probably before, but I haven't looked for it. Every time they send the decoy on the angle he goes for it and we're left a player or three short out wide. Croft is still garbage but the overlap has already happened and it's a formality from there.

Herbie had a bad game but we've seen him defend far better than that, which means it's either an outlier, or the problems start back infield. My money's on the latter

Actually one call that I thought was sus in real time and I wanted to get a better look at it...

Am I just seeing things but does Utoikamanu use his knee to bump off Hetherington?

Looks a bit like it. I noticed he sent Turps backwards a couple of times and he may have done it then too as Turps doesn’t get knocked backwards often despite his size, though at the time I did think they were just good hitups, similar to how Lodge picks out the hooker and sends them stumbling out of tackles

100% right. The second rower is supposed to slide and protect/assist the halfback. Glenn does not do this and is always virtually standing shoulder to shoulder with the middle forwards and that is what largely fucked our left side defence.

Because glenn was not sliding or pushing from the inside, Herbie was so worried about leilua isolating croft in the line that he kept coming in to protect/assist the half. This is not excusing herbie, he played the worst game of his career today. He did not talk to oates and left him marking 3 to 4 players at a time.

Our right side defence looks a lot better which i am putting down to gamble (and absence of coates). When they are defending you can see him communicating with his team mates and pointing at the attackers. Staggs does not rush in as often anymore because of this.

Croft contributed **** all today. 2 kicks, some shit little runs, failure to send the ball wider than glenn (who has become a major ball hog) and being a major target in the defensive line. If kelly is not good to go next week, may as well get katoni in at 6 because gamble basically did the organising, ball playing and kicking himself anyway.

Talking when he first started, may aswell compare when they were all rookies. Only difference is Bennett was starting a new club, seibold got given a quality team than a team full of potential and Kevvie got a shit show spoon winning team.
Wayne started with virtually a Queensland side and won six straight, There was talk at the time we might go through the season undefeated. Still took him four years for the first premiership. How I would love to relive those years - they were special.

Kevvie:

“That was disappointing. We had our chances in the first half to go into halftime with a good lead and I thought we didn’t do that. In the second half, the game just slipped through our fingers."

“Our defence was not good today. Most teams in the NRL can score points quickly if you’re not resilient in defence and we certainly weren’t that today. A lot about defence is a mental thing. Their effort was good today but I just thought they were a bit soft mentally.”

McHunt
Generally find when coaches talk about the 'effort' being good when the team gets beaten - so are they.
