PRE-GAME Round 4 - Broncos vs Titans

That's true... so I guess people shouldn't go to uni, do an apprenticeship, train to be a doctor?
This is more like he got a PhD at Johns Hopkins, but was offered twice the salary to go to the Mayo Clinic and become the leading medical scientist there. And that would be in a job where you would normally stay for a lifetime, unlike a heavy contact professional sport, where 10 years is a massive achievement, not to speak of the significant chance of a career ending injury.

People should stop acting like a scorned and/or betrayed spouse about Taylor and his choice to remain at the Titans.
Of course the money played a role, as does the ruse of being the face that will do for the Titans, what Thurston did for the Cowboys. Doesn't make him less talented or a dickhead, just young and gullible!

I do 100% agree with one thing though. If he doesn't have a cool head pushing him to keep evolving and improving (which I believe Bennett and Walters would be, but is very much the question in regards to Brennan), and instead believes the hype and rests on his laurels, he will sidestep a potentially great career.
I hope this won't be the case, because I like the humble kid I knew him to be...

It's bleak regardless and for him to "fire", he would have to come up with skills that he simply doesn't possess. He has yet to fire in the HB position.

If only we could do a trade with the sharks. They have 2 half backs who can kick but are struggling for points. We have 2 running 5/8ths who can't kick but also struggling for points.

Really doubt we are on speaking terms with them and tbh nor should we be

I agree most would take the contract in their careers, no one can deny that. But you have to weigh up something with the contract he's taken. Would his next 10 years of contracts not go up in value if he was in a top 4 team over a team that will be very very very lucky to make the top 8? Lower teams pay more money for players in top teams because they have experience in big games and bring a good culture to their teams. Something ash Taylor will not be able to put on his resume until his next contract unless a massive amount of injuries happen and he makes his origin debut, even then he will still not play more then 1 or 2 big games a year.

See where you are coming from. But bird in the hand and all that. Bloke could tear up an acl and never be the same tomorrow. If he’s smart with his money this contract alone just about sets him up for life. Next contract he could choose to play for development (halves don’t come to peak till late 20s anyway).

Also he’s on near top money and there aren’t a lot of halves coming through that will lower his value in a few years whereas Cronk and JT will be retired and few others on last legs.

Would you go to uni if someone offers u a million a year to play football? Most of those doing training haven’t got enormous money offers elsewhere, I know I didn’t so I invested in the future. Also footballers have average paid career of ten years or som(with well above average risk of career ending events), rest of us closer to 40 or 50 years to recoup the investment in training.

I don't think anyone is saying that they would have not taken up the Titans' offer, but I get the analogy that it's a shortcut.

He definitely hasn't had to "earn" his $1 million a season like most other big-dollar players have. He hasn't spent years in first grade honing his craft, developing, maturing, and proving he can play to an elite standard, at the highest level, consistently (true, neither has Milford, at least on that latter part). His contract was the product of hype, coupled with the Titans' determination to sign him on a whatever-it-takes basis in order to keep him away from the Broncos.

Shortcut or not, he's achieved his goal. Assuming his goal was to get a big fat contract. Considering how arrogant he's coming across, that may well be the case. Because if he thinks he's "made it" in any other way, he's deluded.

With Milford, it probably helps that he is getting bashed sometimes in the media. Sure, no one likes reading that, but then you also don't get that inflated opinion of yourself either. Media bashing... another perk of being a Bronco.

How do you not figure that?

Because professional players have been known to improve over their careers and a decent judge is hardly going to black list them over their performance in 4 games, in at least 2 of which and hopefully 3, he was the halfback for the winning side...

I still would... 2-3 milllion (only around $500,000-$1,000,000 more in total) wouldn't last you a lifetime and if you think it would you don't deserve to earn that much tbh. The difference to against the good doctors, physios, dentists, ect ect is that they would do their job regardless because they know there is alway going to be money anyway

True. Why he would have benefitted being at the broncs rather than having Titans over a barrel. Having said that was the attitude still there when he was at Broncs?
No idea if the attitude has always been there.

But there are blokes on this forum who reckon they knew him growing up and, without putting words in mouths; they seem to suggest that he was a nice, humble kid.

Could you please supply a few references or quotes which exemplifies this arrogance claimed please ? I'm not saying he isn't, I just haven't heard it in his interviews. Mundine on the other hand.....

He wasn't and still isn't ready for the big coin. Plus having Hayne mentoring him telling him he's an OG probably got to his head too. He sits in the same boat as nick krygios, paid on potential and talent rather than results. Who knows he might grow up and become humble again. Or he might have a meltdown and call Wayne for help.

I've never wanted brisbane to win this game so much. 1. Taylor is a wanker, even the biggest fans of his on here can't deny it now, and 2. It'd make a perfect footy weekend

Normally this game doesn't mean much because I feel sorry for the nsw titans but lately ash Taylor talking about the broncos like its an ex girlfriend that was always out of his league has annoyed me

Please please, tell me where I can view these clips where he is arrogant and big headed. I genuinely want to see them, I've not paid much attention to the media lately.

2 million in index funds and property (3 million - tax + previous post tax earnings - living expenses) earning at 3% above inflation is $60000 a year indexed to inflation for life. If you own your house that is considered a comfortable retirement. When u have kids u need a bit more but that is worst case scenario if his career is suddenly over.

An extra million (say maybe 6-700000 after tax using clever accounting) is around $20000 difference in those sums.

Agree long term at Broncs he likely eventually gets more rep payments, more TPAs and maybe ups his market price a little but would suggest he can worry about that next contract.

Please read what was said.

He called him a wanker; not arrogant and not bigheaded.
