POST GAME Round 6 - Broncos vs Roosters

I was very impressed with Moga how he picked up after the few lapses in defence.
Moga just needs to back himself when taking the line on and when he makes the little line breaks, that normally wouldn't be made by a centre.
Milford take a bow MoM and deserves it, look how much he stepped up after Hunt went off.

1. Boyd - Safe as a house tonight and linked well mostly, led by word and action. 8
20. Mead - Has to play, absolute quality game, massive everywhere and how nice is that speed! 8
3. Roberts - He has looked good all season and tonight I would say he just about exploded, great game. 9
4. Moga - Almost the worst game of all times if not for that pass and tackle, shocking in almost every aspect. Mead needs to be in the side, Moga doesn't. 1
5. Kahu - Is he a troll in here? Safe as always, great kicking as has become custom. 8
6. Milford - He sure was back tonight, massive game in attack and defense. He's hopefully turned a corner tonight, and what a hit! 8
7. Hunt - Was very good once again, hopefully that injury isn't too bad. 7
16. Ese'ese - He bought his recent form tonight to the starting side, very nice! 7
9. McCullough - He was amazing aside from going the wrong way a couple of times early. But there was one play in particular where he fired a short ball on he line to a forward who was stopped by a cracker from Cordner. That is what I want to see, he has improved his service a lot. 9
10. Blair - He is consistently good these days. Nice game and no bonehead penalties from memory. 8
14. Glenn - I honestly didn't notice him but I did notice the left side tighten up in defense after Thaiday came on. 5
12. Gillett - So good! Offered attack with defense tonight. 9
13. McGuire - That was his best game at lock but still played like a prop, that hit for the try was epic! 8

18. Nikorima - He looked comfortable in the WCC last year and looked VERY comfortable at halfback after Hunt went off tonight, is he the future? Unclear but tonight was VERY promising. 7
11. Thaiday - He made a difference when he came on and is scoring a lot of tries, he hasn't been going badly anyway, stiffened up a fragile left edge when introduced. 7
16. Pangai Jr - What a game! Big runs, many of them. Big hits, many of them. Big offloads, many of them. Big plays and none bigger than that intercept to stop a certain try. What a weapon. 9
8. Sims - Looked good when on, ended looking he is out for a few weeks. 6

Moga had a bad night, I'm not going to go on defending him but Fergo is a real handful in those situations.
Remember him scoring 2 try's is as many minutes against Jack Reed who was a fucking good defender, in similar fashion.
I won't be upset if he's not in the side next week, after watching Mead tonight he needs to be in the side with Kahu moving back into the centre.

Bennet / Attacking Coordinator + 1 (after -1 last week). Great performance from the team in attack and from Roberts in particular. He is improving in defence big time and trying to get more involved in attack. It was a change in strategy to move the ball sideways quickly which seemed to work tonight. Early movement sideways then forward rather than the opposite way around. It goes to show try not to be predictable and do it with energy and you can get a along way.

Kodi looked good too.
Reckon this will be good for Milf too, chance to run his own show

The Brisbane Broncos got a small taste of life after Ben Hunt after the Dragons-bound halfback was forced from the field with a hamstring injury in his side's commanding 32-8 win over the Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.

The boot of Jordan Kahu was all that separated the two teams after an enthralling first 40 minutes saw Brisbane take a 14-8 lead into the break but a mountain of possession in the second term enabled the home side to move into top gear and record their third win of the season.

Although Hunt left the field clutching his left hamstring in the 49th minute the initial diagnosis was that it was not a serious injury with Kodi Nikorima coming on to help close out the win in his first appearance for the season.

The loss of Hunt was one of a number of injury concerns for the Broncos who lost Corey Oates with a groin injury prior to kick-off, saw Josh McGuire receive treatment for a left shoulder problem and Korbin Sims miss the final 23 minutes with a foot injury.

The mayhem of the opening 40 minutes continued in the first set of the second stanza when Zane Tetevano delivered one of the best bell-ringers of the season on Anthony Milford only for Tevita Pangai Jnr to break into the back-field and put the Broncos on the attack.

The Broncos were denied one of the tries of the season when Hunt's 46th minute effort that started back near halfway with a Korbin Sims offload was called back for a supposed forward final pass from Milford.

Hunt's departure saw Nikorima get his first game-time of the season and a minute later after his introduction Sims barged his way over from close range to take the Broncos' lead out to 12 points after 52 minutes.

If we thought we had seen everything in the first 57 minutes we were treated to something even more extraordinary when Nikorima and Roberts almost combined for a try, the Roosters picked up a loose ball and went 90 metres in the space of two tackles only for Michael Gordon to be ankle tapped by Andrew McCullough with the line wide open and then Pangai Jnr intercepted the Gordon pass as the Roosters endeavoured to get to the space on the right.

Keary produced an incredible effort to rein in a Milford grubber that seemed destined for Roberts to score from with Gordon the interceptor at the end of the next set when McCullough tried to thread a grubber kick into the in-goal.

Kahu's fifth goal of the night – a penalty in the 70th minute – allowed the home side to open up a 22-8 lead and when James Roberts flashed across after Josh McGuire jolted the ball free from the grasp of Shaun Kenny-Dowall the Broncos had secured their third win of 2017.

To finish off a comprehensive performance David Mead scored in the 77th minute to mark an excellent first performance in Broncos colours in the best possible fashion.

The Broncos made a number of changes prior to kick-off with Mead earning his maiden Broncos appearance for Oates (groin) with Herman Ese'ese and Alex Glenn promoted to the starting side for Sam Thaiday and Sims.

The Roosters gave an indication of their mindset with an offload from the very first tackle of the game and their defence soon wilted under the pressure of a powerful Broncos opening.

Halfback Mitchell Pearce was caught at marker on his goal-line and a yawning hole opened up between he and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves which Broncos hooker McCullough disbelievingly pushed through to score in the sixth minute.

Roberts finally cut loose from his own 10-metre line, outpacing Daniel Tupou and Luke Keary in an exhilarating piece of play that covered some 60 metres before coming to nought but the Roosters made quick use of their use of the football.

In just their fourth set of the game Keary swept around to the right and hit Mitchell Aubusson on a line that saw him brush past an attempt at tackle from Moga and score wide out to reduce the margin to four points after 17 minutes.

That deficit was erased completely four minutes later when Blake Ferguson again made easy work of a Moga attempt at tackle, Gordon's second missed conversion keeping the scores level at 8-all through 23 minutes.

The Roosters' brittle defence was again exposed when Thaiday burst onto a Milford pass with just his second touch of the game, Milford holding up Pearce and Ferguson long enough to create the space for Thaiday's second try in as many weeks.

There was more drama in the final couple of minutes with Roosters lock Aidan Guerra held up under the posts and then Kahu bombing an opportunity just prior to the break when he cut in on a flick pass from Roberts rather than holding firm on his wing where he would have had an unimpeded run to the try-line.

Brisbane Broncos 32 (Andrew McCullough, Sam Thaiday, Korbin Sims, James Roberts, David Mead tries; Jordan Kahu 6 goals) def. Sydney Roosters 8 (Mitch Aubusson, Blake Ferguson tries) at Suncorp Stadium. Half-time: Broncos 14-8. Crowd: 30,376. Holden Cup: Broncos 40-26.

One thing we must remember the penalty count was lopsided to Broncos

The mitch aubusson try the pass out of dummy half was forward

Great win. Loved the enterprising play.

Shame the refs dudded us again, even Brandy Alexander thought it was a poor call!

Good to get the win, this new attacking structure was starting to click and was similar to 2015. Milf was firing and took over after Hunt's injury. I feel we can risk resting Hunt for the next two games against the Titans and the Rabbits and seeing how Niko goes. For the first time in ages we have a problem in the backline with Mead pushing for a position, do you put Oates in at center and Mead on the wing? We will have to wait and see what Bennett does. I am so filthy about Hunt's try being disallowed, 1. It wasn't forward and 2. That would of been valuable Fantasy points.

Where's @meady i owe him an apology. Mead was fucking fantastic tonight

Was at the game tonight and with around 10 to go the announcer comes over the PA.........

"That's 28 points to the Brisbane Broncos......and to the Roosters fans leaving, your team is eeeiiiiiggghhhhttttt"

We need to finally put the Friend is better than McCullough argument to bed. I've always thought Friend was over-rated on this forum and Macca is playing out of his skin this season. Needs to be QLd's 18th man.

So good to watch a game where we were well on top . And zero line drop outs!

Lots to like about the whole team , but I particularly liked the way Blair took the ball up tonight . I don't think he possibly could have run any harder or played the ball more quickly.

My favourite moment was Mcguires hit on SKD to make him cough the ball up. Classic old style shoulder in the midriff that the axe would have been proud of.

Sample size bro..

Friend has been the better player over a longer period of time.

McCullough definitely more in form this year though.

Outside of 2013, I'd make the argument that it's been neck and neck, with McCullough having the better of it the past two seasons.

Both very similar players, the only difference is Friend's more selfish and has had the luxury of a stronger pack to work off of.

Even so, as good as McCullough was, there were a few times tonight where I just threw my hands up over his lack of vision.
