Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

I'm just going to throw this out there, Kearney is our defensive coach right? So he is more than likely the one responsible for our improvement in defense? I don't remember who he had at the Eels but he definitely didn't have the team they have now. Kearney definitely is getting some unwarranted criticism here.

Exactly right. I can't understand why some of the old timers on here like Foordy would prefer to stick with Griffin for the rest of the season. At least Kearney doesn't have u20's loyalty to some of our under performing muppets.

Whilst nobody has been sacked in this team, nobody will have an incentive to pick up their game. This goes for the coach too. If Griffin grew a set of balls and sacked a couple for poor form, The rest if the team would be on notice and we could see a lift.

If Griffin is sacked mid-season (and doesn't finish the season). Kearney WILL be the caretaker coach ... there is no doubt about it. put money on it

and even if the board decides on a new coach before the end of the season ... it is doubtful he will start before the end of the season. (although he will probably start looking our our roster and will have a hand in recruiting and retention)

Hell the board may even decide that Kearney should replace Griffin permanently.

And that would still be a massive improvement. He has worked wonders with our defence.

I can't remember Kearney's stint at Parramatta. Did they score many points? Against the Titans, we didn't look like scoring. If he brings some attacking nous to the squad it would be good.

One thing I don't want to happen is if Griffin doesn't see out the year - the players who aren't performing (Reed, Kennedy etc) suddenly start having a blinder.

It's a bit like last year after the Cowboys parted ways with Henry the Cowboys played the house down and were unbeatable. Hey fellas, a few performances like that a few weeks ago may have saved his job!!!

Do you reckon the coach and players read this forum? I reckon some do and any good points raised about the coach as an example probably get completely lost in the hate for the guy. I sure know if I were coach and someone gave good ideas but in a very attacked and over critical way, I would sure find it hard to listen.

We we all know the guy just doesn't get it but the amount of unfounded attack on EVERYTHING about him is pretty sad in my opinion.

I agree, Sproj. I've tried to look at the positives and negatives. For example, I think Griffin's biggest strength is his loyalty to the playing group and a lot of terrific players (like future immortals such as Lockyer and Smith have endorsed him). I've always tried to point that out whenever I have criticisms. I just wanna see the Broncos do well.

If I were him I would not read this forum.

How did he play a part in the decline of broncos recruiting? he was sacked at the end of 2010 FFS. Here was there for most of the bennett era and responsible for all our recruitment then. The decline in broncos recruiting happened after he left and recruitment become part of Gee's job.

As for Sandow when he was signed he was in great form at the bunnies and you cant really blame a recruitment manager for not having a crystal ball to see that he was going to throw is life into disarray through drinking and gambling. All of parras best recruits have been because of Nolan and Bennett obviously held him in high esteem seeing he was here for so long.

Except the problems with the Broncos recruiting existed before 2010, the Broncos recruitment and retainment has been exceptionally sub par compared to that of pre 2000 they weren't just limited to 2010 and onwards and there lies the problems, they were never addressed early on and it continued well on till his departure. We lost a lot of talented players both up and coming and experienced campaigners such as Civoniceva at a time when our forward pack needed experience more then ever during his reign who was for instanced replaced with an unwanted overpaid Joel Clinton who was outperformed on a regular basis by a noname Nick Kenny. Do I need to bring up Scott Anderson? This same bloke wanted us to sign Jason Cayless who was playing superleague to replace Dave Taylor. There's been some quality players during that time join that club but they didn't stick around long cause he and the club didn't fight for them.

You pay overs for players you expect results from them and the responsibility falls on the people who signed them more then ever when they do, Sandow is no different, nor is Martin Kennedy(an example, not in reference to Nolan). Don't get me wrong I think his made some good signings in his time, but lets not make him out to be Cyril Connell, his shown some big flaws too.

Still I'm willing to give the bloke another chance at the end of the day but his got a lot of work ahead of him, I hope he proves upto the task.

our defence hasn't been that great really. we've leaked 20 points most games this season.

in 2011 Parramatta's record was: 6 wins, 1 draw, 17 loss --- 385 points for; 538 against

in 2012 Parramatta's record was: 6 wins, 18 loss --- 431 points for; 674 against

I can't be bothered going back to individual matches under Kearney, but i think it is safe to say that there weren't many good ones

....personally not against anything (legal) that gets the players performing better. If the coach has "lost the dressing room" and can't regain it, his position is pointless.

None of that is to do with Nolan.

Brisbane Broncos set to add Jason Cayless to pack
BRENT READ THE AUSTRALIAN OCTOBER 05, 2009 12:00AM

BRISBANE could head into next season with a bolstered forward pack after it emerged the club was interested in signing New Zealand international Jason Cayless.

Cayless, who has returned to Australia after a highly successful four-year stint in England with St Helens, is expected to fly to Queensland this week to start talks with officials and undergo a medical examination.

Brisbane football manager Peter Nolan confirmed the club had made an approach to Cayless's manager David Riolo with a view to signing the 29-year-old, who played with Parramatta and the Sydney Roosters before leaving the NRL.

"I'm yet to hear back from his manager," Nolan said.

"I am hoping Jason will be able to have a look around our facilities during the week ahead. We have still got some room under the cap.

"Front row is a position that we haven't deviated from all year - if we can strengthen it we will."

And no saying he wasn't don't make it so, Nolan was involved with the recruitment at the Broncos during his time here and he played his part in the downfall of the clubs once proud position when it came to player retaining, identifying new talent and recruitment. Much like a coach, someone in management can't pick and choose what only count's towards their leadership during their time there.

12, 12, 30 20, 25, 12. I wouldn't say most games. Our defense last year would have let in 30, 30, 50, 40, 45 and 30. There is definitely improvement.

okay guys so 11/12? (bit hazy on years) prior to kearney being with us reportedly griffin was mostly d coach. we had one of the bench mark defences in the nrl. in 13/14 kearney came and is now d coach. at first there was an EXTREME decline in defence we had one of the worst (not quite paramata levels) griffin took over attack because it was horrible in the previous years. in 2013 apart from when wallace/norman derped it up we had a perfect almost second man play but that was it although it always seemed to work. this year our scramble has really improved o be arguably the best in the nrl (apart from when reed couldn't tackle) we still have an average middle. although this year we also haven't put it through the hands to a winger more than once. safe to say although kearney isn't abysmal as a d coach hook is great. we can also safely say hook has no idea in attack although we also don't know how kearney goes.

You're being ridiculous.

Do you honestly think that he walks into Bennett's office- 'I've sacked Petero, see ya.'

Nolan was part of a process but he didn't have anywhere near the final say on player signings.

You credit him single handily with every signing or non signing you don't like yet never go through all the good things he was part of for 10 years. How incredibly balanced.

Sorry 1910 You haven't read most posters official position on anything broncos related.

If they do something good it is either pot luck, someone else did it or it just isn't that good.

If they do something bad - it is solely their fault, no one else's fault and it outweighs everything
