I ahd to laugh about this GI related article

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/nrl ... 5944434184

from the article:

With Melbourne already spending-up to sign several players for 2011 and beyond, Inglis could find himself out in the cold should a frustrated Brisbane decide they can't, or don't want to, wait any longer.

If that scenario eventuates, Melbourne would be unlikely to retain Inglis because they'd again be in breach of the NRL's salary cap - the very reason he was forced to leave the club.

in that scenario Inglis is still contracted to the Storm, so if we decide for whatever reason we are done waiting for a release the Inglis can just stay with the Storm as they would have to honor his huge contract, meaning they would knowingly be breaching the cap again. I think this may be GI's or his managers plan, in waiting out the Storm to get what they want, knowing the only way for the Storm to have a legal side in 2011 is for GI to actually be released.

The downside of this scenario for the Broncs is that he goes back onto the market and ends up playing AFL or Rugby somewhere - or even for some other NRL club with a bit of cash to spare.

Surely David Gallop would grow some balls and step in and void the contract if the situation got to that stage.

these quotes are from an article in the Courier Mail this morning:

Greg Inglis will don a Brisbane training shirt on monday, but will be forced out of the Broncos before he can pull on a club jersey next year if an outstanding $35,000 legal fee is not paid

A league source disclosed the Storm, accepting the situation has now reached a stalemate, are resolved to forcing Inglis onto the open market.

Melbourne will not take Inglis back for 2011, having signed several players since allowing him to sign with Brisbane, partly on compassionate grounds

I wonder if since the Storm haven't actually released him yet, if they are legally allowed to force Inglis to the open market should he not go to Brisbane. even though it would mean the Storm being in massive violation of the cap again, because Inglis does have a legally binding contract with the Storm eusa_think

the article also says that we can not foot the $35, 000 bill for our own cap reasons

Here's a novel idea. How about Inglis pay his own fucking bill?

that Storm would have agreed to pay that because they thought the could just add it to their rorts now they have been caught as cheats and they can't use their rorting to hide the bill anymore they are trying to get out of it [icon_lol1.

He could sell his boat to pay for it.. Pretty pathetic that he won't take responsibly for his legal bills.

with the money he has been making i'm sure 35k wont break the bank for him, i also reckon he is holding out as long as possible to see if he can get the Storm to pay it, i suspect that if it comes to the crunch he will end up paying for it and line up for us next season

Bottom line is the Storm cant keep Inglis next year unless they want to be over the cap again. The Broncos and Inglis know this. As long as it doesnt come out of the Broncos salary cap then i dont care who pays for it!

IMO the Storm hired the Barrister, they should pay the legal fee's!!!

Agree - GI is saying he didn't get a say in who his barrister was, he was hired by the Storm to be paid for by the Storm. It's a matter of principle moreso than whether he can afford to pay it or not.

lol. He does have form for trying to bluff clubs for more money - until the Broncs called his bluff and he had to come back and say," Alright, you got me. Let's talk turkey"!

+1

The storm have damaged League enough with their cheating, if their disgusting childish behaviour in the wake of getting caught causes one of the games most talented players to jump ship, as far as I'm concerned they should cop more punishment the greedy bastards. **** the Melbourne storm. I have never hated another club like I have Melbourne, and the hatred is starting to rival what I feel for NSW.

Yes, it's indeed not more than fair for GI to stand on his principle.
Storm wanted the special barrister and huge costs that came with it, while many specialists said that Inglis wouldn't need any wonder or big legal teams to be exhonerated...

From Danny Weidler's column:

INGLIS IMBROGLIO

IT APPEARS that Greg Inglis and the Melbourne Storm are heading to court over his unpaid legal bill. The NRL has been looking at the matter over the past week and it would seem they will leave it with Inglis to sort out with the Storm. The Storm owe Inglis close to $250,000 and Inglis has received independent legal advice that they can’t prevent him from taking up his new deal with the Broncos. The Broncos want Inglis to settle the matter with the Storm but Inglis is being advised that he should stand his ground. You may remember it was this column that first revealed Inglis was in dispute with law firm Minter Ellison about a six-figure bill – which was, in fact, $128,000. That bill was reduced to $113,000 but it then became a matter between Inglis and the Storm. The fact the Storm were asking Inglis to foot that bill is questionable for a number of reasons – first and foremost, it was the Storm, specifically Brian Waldron, who hired the law firm without warning Inglis about the costs involved. At the top of the charter the lawyers were given was an instruction from Waldron to protect the image of the Storm. Those close to Inglis say he was not consulted about the payment level until he was told the bill had reached $74,000 – but Storm insiders say Inglis was aware from day one about its size. When the payments reached $74,000 he instructed that the payments stop. Inglis isn’t disputing that he has to pay some part of the bill – he is happy to foot over half of it, even though he didn’t ever sign off on the use of Minter Ellison. And when the money is finally paid, it can come out of the $250,000 the Storm owe him in third-party deals. The Storm don’t want to pay the amount in dispute – believed to be about $30,000 – because it will cost the club from the cap and may prevent them fielding a 25-man squad next year. Rival NRL and foreign clubs are keeping a very close eye on the entire matter, but the Storm say Inglis won’t be at their club next year under any circumstance.

So the Storm aren't willing to risk $30,000 because it could prevent them fielding a 25 man squad.

Yet if they don't release GI, they will be over the cap again.

They have been saying that they won't be keeping him next year regardless, but they won't release him to any club that wont pick up the legal tab.

But see that's where they get themselves in a bind - he currently has a legally binding contract with the Storm; if they don't give him a release they still have to pay him regardless of if they actually let him play for them.

Clearly they want him to go play SL, Union or AFL - selfish selfish selfish, no care as to what's best for the sport.
