Touch wood, but I don't see it being horrible. They left him on the bench, rather than taking him straight into the sheds.

Who knows. I haven't read anything yet.

Pretty sure that was the new jersey.

It was different to the white one scotty was wearing, and it was missing that stupid little v under the throat.
it hasn't been released yet, that jersey was identical to last year, only difference was sportingbet where toyota use to be... going to look pretty strange if it has white strips down the side of the shorts going into a blue strip on the jersey...

looks like last year's.

Man Corey Norman looks promising. Would very much like to see him given a run at fullback this season.

If Glenn is in the centres then I would have Gillett on the bench.

Pretty good performance by the broncs, lots of young fellas tried hard, especially noticed Gillet (or who I thought was Gillet (18 I think), not too bad also considering that Canberra was closer to their full strength then we were by quite a bit. Te'o put in as well and Sims had a go. What impressed me with Te'o was that he put 100% when he was on, his first try came just as he came on and on the back of him following up with good support play, if this is something he can make a hallmark of his game, it will go a long way to ensuring his future at the B-roncs.

Tell you what thou, I was in row Y and those stairs are murder at Ballymore, and I'm somewhat fit

Fully agree with this. I love to see back-rowers backing up to score tries, and I think this is an area where Te'o can excel. He's in for a big year this year I think, could be the highest try scoring forward in the NRL.

Just got back from the game. Here is my summary (for numbers 14-17 I am not sure if I got the numbers on the jerseys right but knew who I was watching [icon_lol1. )

1. Corey Norman - very impressive. As said by Matt earlier, his footwork and agility to set up Teo's first try was outstanding. Looks to have a heap of ability.
2. Denan Kemp - played wing for the whole game, and Ivan switched his fullback around a few times so that's a sign that Kemp is here as a winger. He had a good game, shut down some Raiders backline movements in defence, and one run in particular was fantastic - he leaped high to defuse a bomb and before you know it he was 20 metres downfield. Good to see him back.
3. Israel Folau - My MOTM, 3 tries and they weren't just fall over the line tries. His third try was awesome, got the ball on the right hand sideline 25 metres out and beat 3 defenders to crash over. Also played fullback at the start of the second half and did it very well!
4. Alex Glenn - defended well and made some nice runs. Didn't play second half.
5. Steve Michaels - a nice bat back for Norman's try but other than that, pretty hopeless.
6. Ben Hunt - along with Smith controlled the game nicely. Good kicking game.
7. Tim Smith - worried about his ankle injury, but before that he played well combining with Hunt. His chip kick for Teo's first try was pin point.
8. Scott Anderson - started strong, didn't get too much game time. He'll be a good signing.
9. Andrew McCullough - didn't miss a tackle. And in the second half made some very nice runs. Very encouraging.
10. Ashton Sims - like Anderson, strong at the start but not too much game time after that. I'll happily see him start in the front row.
11. Lagi Setu - threw some nice offloads including one great offload to set up Izzy's second try. Best of the forwards.
12. Sam Thaiday - tried hard, but disappointing. Threw some stupid passes. Forget he went around though.
13. Corey Parker - worked very hard and goal kicking was good too.

14. Josh McGuire - little bit disappointing, will need to step it up a it. Not worried though.
15. Gerard Beale - Didn't get too involved, not much game time either. Defended OK though.
16. Matt Gillett - Played in the centres when he got on, didn't do a lot.
17. Ben Teo - scored 2 tries, which I love to see from a back rower. Tackled hard too.

Overall some encouraging signs and minus a few of our key players. The game was dominated by penalties so it was hard for the forwards to really dominate the game. Looking forward to round 1 now icon_smile

Thanks for your overview Jeb. I didn't get the paper yesterday so didn't know how everyone played.

What was it like out at Ballymore? Good venue? I haven't been out there for years - but that was to watch Rugby not NRL.

Ballymore is pretty average. It has a hill which is pretty cool, other than that it's certainly nothing flash.

I was pretty pissed off that the price of a beer was the same as suncorp. $6 for a cup of xxxx gold is a fucking disgrace.

Wow - that's even dearer than I'm expecting to pay for Tooheys New at the AC/DC concert at ANZ Satdium tonight

Yeah that's pretty poor. I hate paying top dollar for crap alcohol. What was the admission price?

Yeah when I used to go to Ballymore I used to sit on the hill. I'm not sure if it changed since then or not. How many people were at the game on Sat?

I liked it at Ballymore. There was nothing wrong with the view of the game at all and the price of beer at footy games these days is always high so there's no point getting upset over it.

Actually, i think there is a point in 'getting upset over it'.

It's not just beer that is a complete rip off at games these days. Pretty much everything they sell that is a food or beverage, is insanely overpriced.

I'm sure they don't need to charge such inflated prices to make a profit, and i think it's time the NRL did something about it. Families with young children shouldn't be made to fork over $10 just to get their kid a cup of chips and bottle of soft drink, etc.

It really is ridiculous IMO.

Mate not saying I like the prices, but it's been that way since I have been going to footy and for a while before that I am sure. Nothing's gonna change it. If you lower the price of food and drink, ticket prices will go up and the public who don't buy food or drink at the game will lose out big time.

Tim Smith is A-OK. And word at Langlangs is they don't expect to see him turn out in the Gold and Black too often this season.

+1

It's a fucking joke.
