Re: Round 23 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

Do you watch Manly? He drifts in and out of games at an alarming rate. He plays on the strongest attacking edge in the comp and has G. Stewart and Lyon either side. He has been blessed with his run in first grade.

Good kicking game, so he has an OK base to work from, but he has plenty of development left. Des has a proven track record at developing halves - I'm interested to see how he goes without him over the next season or two as Manly begin to decline.
Yep yep.

Re: Round 23 - Bulldogs vs. Broncos - Build Up Thread

Well he isn't as good as he was last year with out Des coaching, he wouldn't be any better than Wallace or Boreman at the Broncos.

FFS......Get off the cones.

He's experienced what any other talented rookie experiences in their 2nd year. Other teams are on to him and target him in defence. After the Eels gave Manly a touch up in the earlier rounds DCE's defence was certainly questionable. I think he's fought back strongly from that.......he's filled out a bit too IMO and is starting to regain the form he showed last year.

Somebody asked who we could have gone after instead of resigning Wallace. If you blokes would rather Peter Wallace instead of DCE........then we can stop discussing this right now.

Cones don't make people think like that.

DCE was up for grabs / exploring his options around the same time.

I wonder if anyone from Brisbane even bothered to call his manager......?

He wasn't exploring his options, he was leveraging more money out of Manly, he had no intention of leaving. And for your information the broncos did go quite hard after him, but as I said he wasn't gonna leave

Mate why dont you get of the cones. It doesn't matter what you want, if you can't have it whats the point. Currently there is no half available or that we can afford that is better than Wallace so just deal with it. I want Lockyer to come back to the broncs accompanied by the entire qld team, but that can't happen so I dont lose any sleep over it

Define "the broncos did go quite hard after him" ........?

I'm truly interested in what they did and how one obtains this knowledge, ie: you knowing what they did.

Yeah, not sure how hard we chased him if at all. We had already signed Wallace, Hunt and Norman by the time he was looking around.
All the stories were typical of players manager tactics, leaking crap to the press to leverage a better result from Manly.

I seriously doubt we went after DCE at all.

I know a few people at the broncos, im not going into it because they tell me things confidentially and im not the kind of person to to betray that. I am telling you the did go after him and the involved other parties in the NRL to try and convince him that the links and combinations he forms at the broncos could potentionally fast track his inclusion in the origin team and a few other things.

Quite frankly whether you believe me or not doesn't matter to me, so you just continue to think you know exactly what happens the broncos and that all the staff blindly love Wallace and believe he is the man to lead us to further premiership glory

Yeah he's a tough competitor but I thought the whinge was that we don't have creativity/kicking game/pace in the halves. Don't think Burns solves any of those problems.

Wallace is a good tough footballer and I can see him filling in as a utlity role (he played 6,7 and 13 at Penrith) until the end of this year. I'd much rather him in the 17 than Baptiste or Capewell FFS - surely every one agrees on that point?

**** what results are showing in attack. A true show of where a team is at in terms of committment is defence. Wallace never backs away and is rock solid in defence (save for that Barba effort).

Can't anyone see the benefit in 7. Hunt and 14. Wallace?

Whatever happens for the rest of this year, I think Hook has to not be afraid to blood some youth.

Finals 2009 vs. Storm after Wallace was injured in prelims - we shift Lockyer to 7, Carroll (?) to 6 and it goes to shit. Hunt was put in cotton wool.
Finals 2011 vs. Manly after Lockyer was injured - we shift Gillett to 6, and Norman was put in cotton wool. It all goes to shit.
