Wayne Bennett quits Knights... Is he coming back?

Now why can't Wayne want to get plenty of $$$ for his family and still want to win? Are you telling me he went to Newcastle because he wanted the money but he didn't care about how the team went?

don't bother arguing with AP about Bennett.

His anti-Bennett agenda is as bad as many peoples anti-Griffin agenda

From my perspective it looks like he went to the Knights for the money, second priority was winning a premiership with them.. (It would be a subconscious thing, he would be giving his 100% to the team, but there would no doubt be something in the back of his mind after every time they lost a game saying to him "Think of the money".)

The main reason I hope he comes back to Brisbane is so he can spend more time with the family, which will subconsciously allow him to focus more on Rugby League, and winning some more premierships for the Broncos :p

Gee, the way you guys talk you'd think money was a goal itself. Money is a tool just like a shovel or hammer. It's nothing without doing something with it. Bennett may have gone to Newcastle etc for the money but what he does with that money is the critical thing. I've no doubt the long term care needs for his family are already taken care of. In my opinion Bennetts the kind of person who has taken care of a lot of other people too and it would not surprise if he contributed to Alex McKinnon's future as well.

It would be nice if people could talk about the nobility of a person rather than take a bitter swipe at those who have managed, either by hard work, luck or fate, to have access to large amounts of money.

I'm quite close with some people who have an intellectually disabled daughter. They're multimillionaires but live very frugally, home brand food, kmart clothes and a 20 year old car. Most families only need to save enough for 20 or so years of retirement but these people also need to have enough to pay for their daughter's care from when they're no longer able to look after her through to when she dies, which could be 40 or 50 years of care.
Her care is estimated to be two to three hundred thousand a year. I'm not familiar with WB's kids' capabilities but if it's a similar situation you can see why several million dollars might not be enough for him.

Yeah this. It's not like you just put your disabled kid in day care. It's astronomical.

He's well paid no matter where he goes so his choice doesn't matter money wise.

He spends plenty of time with his family, he's back here every week.

If Wayne Bennett returns to us next year ... there's going to be another 3 years (the likely length of his contract) of whinging and complaining about the style of footy we are playing... because Bennett-ball and Griffin-ball are identical.

the biggest difference between the 2 is that when Bennett was last here playing that style, he had the genius of a Lockyer or Langer or Walters etc to rely on

This time he will have Milford, Hunt and peg leg Barba. There is still potential here.

That's right, Bennett can only win if he has langer, lockyer or walters. I still can't believe Lockyer went with him to the dragons, really missed him for those few years

Half of me thinks maybe Bennett is the guy to get the best out of our team but I am just not sold on it. He is the only real option available that has been there and done it before.

He won't come anywhere near the Broncos. You watch.

He will either go back to St George, or to the Warriors. Or he will just retire.

Either way, he won't be at the Broncos. We are not that lucky.

Actually if he's not at the Broncos, it would mean we are lucky.

Even Lockyer implied it would be a step backwards to hire him again

Jamie Soward. Ben Hornby.

He didn't need geniuses mate...

Bennett would probably get us a premiership with the roster we will have from 2015 onwards, but his footy won't differ much from Griffinball as Foordy said.

Only difference might be that we won't have Hook's bulking regime affect our star players.
I am sure we have the slowest team in the NRL because of this bulking policy, and there's no substitute for speed!

I would prefer to take a gamble on the Walker brothers than having Wayne back as coach. Ideally, I would have him in a coaching supervisory role though.

I don't think we need been there and done it before. Trent Robinson hadn't. And at some point neither had Des Hasler. Andrew McFadden is having much better results than the first grade coach he took over from, who had a lot of coaching experience. I think we can afford to take on a new coach providing he has the right ideas and is willing to instill them. Both Henjak and Griffin look devoid of ideas and try and emulate the style of football we played under Bennett in the years before, with varying degrees of failure. I think our Trent Robinson is out there somewhere.

I don't think anyone really wants Wayne back as head coach tbh.. I think ideally we'd have him back as the "over looker" of the coaching, my preference would be to have him overlooking a rookie coach that isn't afraid to take some risks and play some attacking football.. Anything but Griffinball.

I'm certainly ok with us going down that path but it is a risky as opposed to installing Bennett as coach IMO.
