Where to From Here? Let's Plan for 2021...er...2025

You are a little older than me so I didn’t get to see Renouf in his earlier career but I bet he didn’t top error counts and look like he had never seen a football before. Any player might be the next champion but you can’t just constantly take gambles, they need to be educated guesses.
Hyperbole

I'm old enough to remember the Broncos when they came into the comp in 88.
They signed a skinny kid to play centre. Had speed to burn but couldn't tackle to save himself.
He managed to turn that around and became a handy player.
Steve Renouf was his name.
In today's game though you've got to have more than just being fast.
Which has been the clubs problem with scouting players for a few years now.
Not saying Mariner can't turn it around but he's got a fair bit to work on.

Lucky he has the 1 thing you can't coach.

Strength and Conditioning needs to be reviewed at the very least.
Would be keen to get Ben Hornby up to Brisbane as an Assistant. He has done a good job with the Bunnies.
Brad Thorn would be a great hire if he is interested. We desperately need someone to build a big strong menacing forward pack with some Mongrel.
I think Brad Thorn is someone that could bring something... he is a no nonsense person and will hold them accountable... enough with the coddling of these *****.

I think we have to be wary of NSW assistants coming in though... if you're bringing someone from down south in then they have to be absolute students of the game.

If you bring a NSW cheerleader in then they will get no respect from the playing group... this squad needs a fucking teacher stat... they don't need another mate

I'm not sure if Thorn is an absolute student of the game, but he is someone from that previous era that knows how to steel a forward pack.

Yeah, bit drastic but mainly Riki for a harder running attacking option. Assuming you know our starting backrow is Riki and Piakura i did say i would only let Piakura go if a better option came about so that deals with that.

Thought it was obvious that we would still need to replace squad members we got rid of as well...
I think we could've gone harder for Sua.

Teams nowadays basically carry 3 backrowers in their 17... there's no reason Riki can't be the third off the bench... or plays the first 20mins and then fills in as a middle off the bench.

One thing Riki needs to do is up his fucking intensity.... too many in this team have zero physicality in their game... last year we were cutting blokes in half and ultra physical... whatever change happened over the off season that changed that entire game plan and mentality needs to be fucked off.

I did see him early dayz .
Dropped the ball with the try line open several times . Would get KO`d regularly trying to tackle .In time he became an all great .
He`s the reason I keep a positive mind regards young players being able to turn things around .

I genuinely do wonder whether Kaas, Horse Butt and Skeleton might actually be enough. Of course no idea if we can / will get any of them.

I agree with @Santa that the nucleus of a side that can dominate is there already but this has been one of those years where everything that can go wrong has. Can Kevvie turn it around? I hope so and I think he will get the chance unless we have a Seibold style end to the season.

It is clear we weren't fit enough this year and there are no real systems in place, so off field these are the two biggest issues to address - fitness and basics. Whos is the current Panthers' fitness coach? Give them twice as much money as anyone else offers.
One of the issues you have when you have **** all depth is a lack of competition for spots.

We came into the season with 2 backrowers... Riki and Piaks know they're getting picked every single week. TBH there's basically no competition for places across the entire 17... any threats from Kevvie that they'll be dropped are out the window, because there's literally no quality in the rest of the squad that can replace them.

But we've spent so much cap space on the top 17 that we pretty much can't afford any quality across the rest of the squad.

The problem is that with the current free agent rules there is no chance that we replace Piakura with a better player for 2025, or even realistically replace any of the other players you've listed with anyone who is significantly better. That's why we ended up with depth we currently have...

I also think Riki is undervalued on here, and has earned an opportunity to turn his form around.

Yeah this year the lack of intensity is what has been most disappointing for me.

On the fitness side of things... I'm assuming it's still the same team that had us looking the fittest team in the comp in 2023 and running over teams in the final 20mins.

I don't know if you throw it out without finding out if it was incompetence or circumstance due to the shortened preseason and getting sent to Vegas.

I think they formally found out broncos were going to Vegas in August last year, so just before finals started, which doesn't give a whole lot of time to completely revamp your preseason plans.

Are there internationals for Australia this year?

I can only see England vs Samoa... so potentially we're going from a completely fucked offseason last year to a regular all players available off season this year.

Vegas. Roosters went to Vegas how they going. Our coach is still blaming Origin. Have to face facts - we’re a **** of a football club at the minute.

40k on Saturday and half had gone by half time or so it seemed and the biggest cheer at Lang Park came from the doggies fans.

We need a decent head of football, where’s Peter Parr, as much as a decent coach before sacking all the players not putting in.

Where's DD when you need him and Morris. Hiding under a rock somewhere? And how’s the coaches KPI's going Dave, have to be looking a bit sick if compiled competitively I'd expect.

Our club is in one hell of a mess not quite as bad as the Bennett/Seibold times but needs someone with a strong will and determination to get us back on track.

@BroncsFan @Sproj
I believe Dave Ballard is still Head of performance.
I do know Nathan Kiely, one of the strength and conditioning specialists left earlier in the season.

Hard to say whether this has had a part to play in our season's demise.

Like others have mentioned it's really a number of factors.

Oates,
Tapau,
Pereira,
Hoeter,
Sailor,
Smoothy (?),
Paix(?),
Cobbo(?),
Hunt(?),
Baker(?),
Gowski.

The list of blokes who won’t be extended & barring Cobbo, blokes who are screwup’s by our R&R team.

Entire recruitment team must be crucified for not thinking ahead in identifying our deficiencies and try to fill those.

Recruitment - shit,
Conditioning- dog shit,
Coaching - utter garbage,
Structures - non existent,
Player rotation during games - clueless, Burn out of Patty & Payne every week - MUST.

Is this how a powerful club like Broncos should run? Let alone any professional club runs?

A) We're paying the price for over paying Haas. (i.e could have kept Herbie or Flegler)
B) Walsh is a million dollar play in attack, but he's along the likes of Sloane for worst defensive full backs in the league and that needs to be factored into his price tag.
C) We're over working Haas and Carrigan.
D) Both of our edges are busted, our 2nd rower stocks have gotta be close to the worst in the league.

We need to offer Reece a smaller short term contract, not a 1.2/5 year deal.
We need to never pay north of a million for a single prop ever again until the salary cap allows.
We need to spend big for off field conditioning and coaching staff in the off season.
