Exactly what I was thinking. Never heard of this Heggarty bloke.

Hegarty, stayed for a while and then left.

NYC half who's biggest claim to fame was kicking the winning field goal to win the Mal Meninga Cup one year.

Didn't really kick on at 20s level and spent a fair chunk of the year playing colts for Norths.

that sucks, I've got him in ASRL :P

 Sorry bud should have updated you there.

I don't think any of our halves coming through right now are any good fwiw.

I like Cullen but he's just too small and doesn't have the Langer like talent to compensate.

What about that Kodi Nikorima??

Same issues as Cam Cullen.

Also reminds me too much of Corey Norman, the king of making the inconsequential half-breaks.

Should have held onto Jacob Gagai....:shady:

Really don't understand your comment on keeping Jacob gagai when he reminds me more of Norman than anyone. For mine Norman and j gagai have the same problem as John sutton, they are backrowers trying to play 5/8

Wash your mouth out!

Gagai is the next Freddy Fittler.

Except Sutton is, IMO, the best ball player in the comp'.

To be have success in the back row Norman would need to find some aggression from somewhere... However if he can't step up this year I think that could be where the club pushes him.

If there was more reliable support for some of those 'inconsequential half-breaks' they wouldn't be so inconsequential, another area of hoffman's game that needs improvement. Regardless how many metres Hoffman prides himself on making each game, he has got to understand his job isn't finished after a kick return. Hes got to stay alive and hover around the ball and take the labored runs through the line for that 1/10 chance he might see the ball. Even without the ball, just being there as an option is putting more pressure on the defense and creating opportunities. Norman's strike rate for breaking tackles, his size and offloading ability should have hoffman running off his hip all game, its a team sport and Norman is only one element and without adequate support play can only be half effective. Hopefully this seasons experience of seeing how Norman plays will translate into a structure that takes advantage of those attributes so to convert some of those half chances into points.

Great post although I do think there are times where Norman just flat out takes the wrong option and doesn't shape to pass the footy.

And I've seen him do that without Hoffman being in the team.

He is guilty of the dummy and go as his safety option when he is under pressure, hardly uncommon in rookie halves and hopefully he will mature out of it. Got to remember to that opposition coaches start to work kids out pretty quickly and it's probably no coincidence his form dropped in the second half of the season as teams started to number up on him more and they caught onto the flat attacking structure and rushed up on normans options which also provoked him into running it too much. He shouldn't be written off, if given the time he clearly has the skills and personality it takes.

How much time are we really willing to give him though? If he doesn't improve quite a bit next season, we really need to go for someone else.

I don't have an issue with his skills, it's his attitude on field that concerns me.
