i thought the same ... which is why we then need to hire a good football brain to run the football program. give this person full authority over the the football operations. Ikin would be a good fit here

I find it ironic that the same people bagging White for allegedly meddling with the football department now want a ceo with football experience to ostensibly do just that.

The majority of the role is commercially driven. Why would they hire someone who lacks the ability or experience to do the job?

Considering how hands on White was with reqruitment, I disagree with that.

That's the model Souths have, they had Richo doing football reporting to the board and the CEO reporting to the board on Business.

They're intertwined, on field success is great, but it doesn't automatically convert into corporate support, membership, government grants etc that are then used to support the football program- the High Performance Centre is evidence of that.

In today's CM Craddock is saying that Ikin's hold on the job is slipping, as the club have asked recruiters to go back to the market and see if there are any suitable candidates that haven't applied (and if so, they may be encouraged to)

he does say that the club have received a significant number of applications from high profile persons

They are saying that due to our on field performances the club believe that the new CEO must have football smarts to rewire the club - which is a big tick in Ikin's column.

Why not Ikin as a head/ GM of football??

Football success is great, it objectively raises crowd numbers and merchandise figures which can be worth Millions over a season.

The ceo is being employed to be the ceo, not offload the responsibilities to someone else who doesn't get paid to be the ceo.

None of which just happens organically.

Ok, he was one of three voices, the chair, ceo & the clubs greatest ever player. They clearly got the decision wrong, but the same thing could have easily happened had the ceo been Ben Ikin. The game is littered with failed coaching appointments. The length of the contract is certainly a failure of management.

Hes pragmatic and an excellent operator. Given the power the broncos do have, he could help take us to the top to a position similar to Melbourne and Roosters. They should throw a golden sink and a boat at him. No discussions.
