It really doesn't because you're not going to read 30 values and add them up to equal 9 million. There are discounts and lots of things in play to your cap, other clubs paying players.

People are just going to read 600K and blow up saying why's he on 600k when they don't know he gets 100k from Adidas and 50k from Tourism Queensland and 50k from Triple M and that's why he took 600k from Cowboys.
You are 100% right. Only thing the public release of Salaries would result in is a constant salary of each player in the media. Nothing else whilst someone like myself who is very interested would love that information to do so many weird footy nerd things but players and clubs get nothing but negativity in return for it. I guess it would really highlight which clubs are using TPA’s and you could identify the best models of salary cap management a bit better but it’s not worth satisfying my wants or fueling everyone else’s skepticism over someone like the roosters for the backlash it would receive.

If you wanted to write about the desire of clubs to contract Cobbo who else would you quote?

He's quoted his current club's coach and football manager and his manager- don't really see a lot of other options.
He is literally the salesman. The problem is he hasn't sourced ANY conflicting view to this absolutely ridiculous statement. He's just ran with it bcos it suits his agenda. That'd not journalism, it's just sensationalism to het clicks.

Btw they were old quotes from the coach and football manager. He didn't source them himself. For someone who is incredibly pedantic about the most irrelevant shit sometimes you often don't put the mirror on yourself, too busy quoting yourself. Makes me laugh every time though...

What would be a conflicting opinion, no club wants Cobbo- who the hell would say that?

Tas- 14 clubs have rung me
Man at pub- no clubs have rung he's a liar.

Can I just say that the ongoing posts whinging about Journos speculating contract talks and values is the most boring point discussed on this board imo.

One thing to call them out for trying to get clicks through discrediting character (eg Patty’s beer, Payne’s push etc) but I really don’t see the problem people have with contract speculation. That’s what’s 70% of discussion on here is based around.
Probably best for you to not read them then. I am sure we could all lists things on this forum that we have no interest in or even hate, most people will just ignore it and read something else.

For someone that is so smart you can play dumb incredibly well when you are trying to win an argument.

A conflicting opinion would be a source other than his manager. Someone that is going to give a realistic view of his value at this point of his career. Like what they did with Payne Haas and Gould when Uncle Nick couldn’t fit him under the cap.

Ah but, as you know, those 3rd party deals can't be dependent on playing for a certain club. He might be getting $600k plus $200k third party, but if another club is offering more, those 3rd party deals are still in play if they are indeed legit. So you can't hide behind that in a "that's why he took $600k from cowboys".

That's not relevant, the point was that just listing a salary won't give you the full picture of his earnings. A list that people call for regularly- and I was responding to.

If you just see 600K on a public list that's not his full earnings.

Companies can very much not sponsor you if you're not in their area- a Townsville radio station is not going to give you 50k if you're living in Sydney playing for the Sharks.

Reynolds has picked up deals relating to Brisbane only since he's been in Brisbane.

Yep. At this point the journo is not doing any actual journalism, they're acting as a mouthpiece for another scum manager who does not have the player's best interest at heart, and just wants to bank maximum commission.

I'm sure all the journos do it so they keep in their good books so when a real scoop comes along they get thrown a bone. But it's just another mechanism for the player managers to rape the game, get ridiculous contracts for unproven players, and ultimately hurt long term development & retention by clubs who just poach for maximum dollar.

People don't care about how much he is earning total, that's just Women's Weekly. They want to know how much a player is getting paid under the cap by each club.

One might explain the other- If I am Reynolds and my manager says I have you lined up to earn 200K outside the Broncos and I really want to come to Brisbane then I might take less from the Broncos knowing it's not going to cost me. 700k from the Broncos and 200k from a variety of companies might explain why I don't take 900K at the Sharks.

But if you just publish 700K that just provokes questions and doesn't solve what this list is trying to answer.

It's not the full picture.

Journalist: "so is manly going to shift turbo from fullback or are they going to put in a near $900,000 bid for a rookie centre?"

Manager: "ummmm did I say 14 because I meant 13...."

Reporter: "so souths......"

And so on and so on... if you believe bullshit like 14/16 nrl clubs are going to bid for him without questioning it and after hearing from just his manager you should not be a journalist, or tbh, be allowed to vote...

Yet you read it and cared and cried and I didn't care less.

Why would it be a manager's job to know what Manly intent to do? All he's said is 14 clubs have taken an interest- that could mean just an email to ask about his contract situation.

I genuinely feel like you have inside knowledge of a certain team still cheating and will defend it to the death

"Cried" haha.. Your replying and commenting an awful lot for someone who couldnt care less. You sure have a weird way of showing apathy......

Did you seriously just say why would it be a managers job to know what manly would do? Hahaha he'd his fucking manager! You don't think cobbo would want to know as well? He'd be awfully shit at negotiating if he didn't have any negotiating power or idea about why somebody wants something wouldn't he? Seriously, re-read that comment slowly....

Again all he said was interest shown over the last six months- that could be an email to know his contract situation- in fact that's all it can be.

You don't reply with fullback is on his rider.
