If we had Hunt on our books still he would 100% be playing second fiddle to Milford (which would probably benefit him because he'd run it more), yet apparently we're dumb for not having a 'controlling' half.

Lol

This is actually getting hard to watch. As fun as it is as a sports fan, if you remember this is just a bloke trying to do a job and a bloke that was pretty loyal to us for quite some time, it’s actually kinda sad

I mean, I’m sure the millions of dollars would help him sleep at night but **** me he is having a rough go of it on the field.

Where's all the media now?
I do recall (earlier on in the season) hearing that Brisbane had let the wrong half leave, and in fact Hunt had it all over Milford.

Hahahahahahahaha.
Good old Buzz Rothfield...

Spot on. Hunt seems like the kind of guy that once he hits the paddock however much money he is on or whatever jersey he is wearing he gives 100%. What was he supposed to say to the Dragons? "Nah, I'm not worth that much money, pay me less." Every single member of this forum would have done exactly the same thing as Hunt if we were in his shoes.

I hope mentally he can cope with this and I hope that he can separate his football life from his personal life. I wish nothing bad towards him personally but he made a terrible decision and he has to work with that.

What he should have done is taken the money offered here that was what he was worth and what he could produce.

Can I just say I hate this assumption that people seem to make of 'oh you all would take the most money offered to you so lay off' when that simply isn't the case. I have been offered far more money than I am earning in a role that was far higher than my current one. I turned it down because at this stage of my career the role was too big for me and at this stage I wouldn't be up for it so rather than getting the money for a year or so before I burn out, fail and then my future career prospects dwindle I have stayed where I am and am doing the training required to be ready for it because that kind of role is where I want to end up.

So don't say everyone would take the money.

If I was as useless as Ben Hunt was, I would take the highest offer if someone were dumb enough to throw that figure at me.

Completely different circumstances I’m sure. I’m guessing you aren’t less than five-six years from retirement and I’m guessing the difference in offer wasn’t about 500k + a year over 5 or 6 years meaning you’d be sacrificing about 3 million dollars. And it isn’t like he left his company to do a completely different role, he went to do exactly the same thing.

Okay. You're right as I've campaigned on here for years and years fighting against broad all encompassing generalizations. Most people would take the money, not all. Some believe a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, in other words take the big offer because you'll never know if you'll get that opportunity again. Like in your case, you turned down a big job for whatever reason, that job may never be offered again but you take the risk. Perhaps you should have, perhaps not. You may have been perfectly capable of doing it but didn't have the courage to back yourself, no matter it was your decision. Thing is, make a decision and own the consequences.

Money wasn't the only reason he left. I'd say dropping the GF and not being able to overcome those demons played a part too. I'm guessing he was hopeful that some new scenery would help him. A lot of people were saying the same thing.

He did leave to do a different role. He wasn’t and isn’t a halfback and he left to be a halfback. Different role and one he can’t perform.

In terms of the retirement analogy he needed to decide if it was a better idea to get to have a long career where he can succeed on good money or a season or two on stupid money in a role he can’t perform before crashing and burning. He made the choice.

As long as he has a dominant half playing beside him he's fine. He's a better than average hooker or a running 5/8 in my eyes. Him and Widdop work well together, providing Widdop is playing well...

Throughout history there have been Broncos players turning down huge pay days at rival clubs, off the top of my head: Lockyer, Webcke, Parker, Hodges (after he came back, interesting that he found out that the grass isn’t greener on the other side), etc. None of the blokes who sacrificed cash for success in their careers for us are struggling financially in their later years.

I don’t really care that Hunt is gone; he would only have been marginally better than Niko at best. The club can now use him as an example when negotiating with young talent who are being offered dumb overs elsewhere.

I for one never want Hunt near the Broncos and a high pressure game ever again.
