General Ben Barba discussion

Re: Ben Barba stood down

Fitness etc is much easier when you have only that to do essentially. Their 'job' is to train and workout. They get up, go and train all day then go home.

And at training, do they simply sit there and do nothing.. No they work their arses off.

Most average Joes couldn't do that, even if they just played footy for a living. There are massive sacrifices to make it big, even if you're in the the top 1%.

Do you think Cooper Cronk has it given to him on a silver platter?

Re: Ben Barba stood down

I really think people are reading too much into this "He came to us". Bull****. You don't tatter on the edge of termination as the current Dally M medal holder after going to your boss with issues.

probably true. everyones different. maybe bits and pieces of hearsay were going around the club. maybe a moment of clarity led him to admit to a drug addiction problem. to me this makes the most sense (speculating).. rehab.

the drug allegations in sport saga may of scared him into it. and now the bulldogs can hide him away to get him clean.

Oh, so you think we're saying they don't work for their position. That's where your wrong, the training would be tough, no doubt. But it's only as tough as what my job is. When it's your job, you're good at it, that simple. If you're not, you go home, and find another job.

Silver platter isn't getting handed a jersey. It's getting everything that comes with being an elit sportsman. The money, the houses, the cars, the females, the free medical help, you fucking name it, if you're good enough, you got it.

To a degree yes. But that's assuming that you consider yourself to be in the top 1% of your profession. If you're not, how hard would you have to work to get there? Would the rewards and sacrifices be much greater?

I don't admit at all to being in the top 1% (are you?). To get there I would have to work 7 days a week, I can't imagine keeping a family but I'm sure the money and status would be serious better.

Think about the multitude of QCup/NSW Cup and Toyota Cup players or even reserve grade teams whose career ambition is to be an NRL star of the Ben Barba kind, who would get paid minimum wages but also dedicate their lives to footy.

The Ben Barbas get the big bucks because they are at the top echelons of their field, not run of the mill.

Re: Ben Barba stood down

his profile is back on the bulldogs site. maybe they saw the immediate backlash causing more negative suspicion?

No offense but I think your still missing the point, but whatever, poor Ben he has had such a hard trot my heart bleeds for him

Re: Ben Barba stood down

Did Hasler have a say in suspending him?

Re: Ben Barba stood down

Call me heartless, but I am sick & tired of sporting stars who get most things on a silver platter & then if something goes wrong they go on a 'bender' etc.

So he has split from his GF, big fucking deal.

Doesn't he have kids with this girl....?

I know if my family was breaking apart I'd find it hard to concentrate on my work.

So why has he been swanning around & posting pictures of his 'new' girlfriend.

Re: Ben Barba stood down

Maybe he was trying to move on but it was eating away at him

He's hurting and trying to hurt back .......it's high school stuff. He doesn't come across as being very mature and particularly in this case, this girl is his high school sweet heart ( I think). They have been together since they were kids.

Without being too sappy ....Cat Stevens and the First cut is the deepest, rings true.

All this emotional turmoil doesn't spell out success in a high pressure atmosphere such as the NRL. They say he put his hand up in last weeks trial match and said he didn't feel like playing and asked to be replaced.

It sounds like he's going through some sort of emotional/mental breakdown.

No big deal for battle scarred warriors like you and me Kaz, but for Ben Barba......small town kid,

I can see his pain might be real.

Re: Ben Barba stood down

it has come out that he had a bit of a blow up at the trial and then told a trainer while on field he didnt want to play anymore, so he came off.

also some sort of fight/scuffle over seemingly nothing directed at tim browne at training.

imagine being 23yr old the biggest thing in rugby league everyone wanting a piece of you. so much slander at him on his instagram at him it looks like thers a hell of alot of stirring up going on from his exs "friends". and looking through it, he is writing back to some of the haters (not at the moment but has been) so its probably been getting to him pretty bad. two kids that he may be getting into a custody battle over.

looks like he's hangin out with some dud idiots. steve folkes son who was on that embarassment of television 'the shire'. partying too hard and getting into relatively harmless 'trouble'. with every binge session would come a more depressing hangover and a need for more to 'escape'. i would be more suprised if rec drugs werent involved, they are just as easy to get as booze when your bingeing/on the bender 'scene'. people would be feeding him the stuff.

and now you me and every other person involved in league is trying to dig up the details of his life. imagine that happening to you? at 23?

the fact that he's making alot of money is irrelevant. actually it would have enabled his problems to develop at a greater rate. just because 'all the support' is available doesnt mean he had wanted or admitted he was going down a bad way until now. you cant be helped until you want to be helped.

Re: Ben Barba stood down

No no this is all rugby leagues fault and fame and money and the break up with his partner. Even 3 years ago when he wasn't rich or as famous and when he was still with his partner he must have known that all that would happen, leading to this uncharacteristic behaviour.

Remember nothing is bens fault and he has it so much harder than us average joes

Oh wah fucking wah. When he's Dally M player of the year and everyone loves him, it's great. when he's struggling and everyone wants to know what's going on, it's an injustice.

Suck it up or get out, Ben.
