Hodges Facing Suspension

He seems to be getting frustrated out there and maybe he isn't playing his best footy atm, but Hodges at 50% is better then most other centres in the game, as long as he's on the field come September I don't care.

For my own selfish reasons, I was glad he was out of Game 3 SoO this year. The QLD backline moved the ball better without him.

He was out of game 2 as well right?

Hammo, surely you agree that he needs an attitude readjustment, given your opinion of Ennis.

I have agreed with that for years. I was also just highlighting the fact that I, unlike most of BHQ, don't rate him as the "standout" centres in the comp.

I mean, he has potential, and has shown, on any given day, he can play great. But in reality, his great games are quite few and far between. Tate (and I know everyone will go on about him) was actually FAR more dominant and aggressive in Game 2 & 3 then Hodges was in game 1. I know our pack owned them compared to game 1, however last year, Hodges didn't do much either.

Then, for Brisbane, apart from a handful of games against lesser sides, name outstanding games he has had? Don't get me wrong he is Orsm, but he isn't an Inglis. In actual fact, the best I have seen of Hodges, was when he was Fullback for those few games at the end of 06. He was monstering the kick returns.

Either way, he is locked in for years, and yes, we need him to pull his head in, or else the team will be forever paying for his stupidity.

P.S. For Brisbane, Hodges gesture is the first real brain-explosion incident he has had. The Ridell tackle went wrong, you could see he knew it, hence why he let go halfway through it. Ennis doesn't know where to draw the line, like some have suggested, he just hasn't been caught yet. Even if you don't count all the penalties he gives away, Ennis' time will come P.P.S.Did everyone slay Tallis when he called Harrigan a cheat?

Answering the fine print alone: I think we all thought Harrigan was a cheat on that occasion, and so while not condoning what Tallis said, we couldn't write him off for it either.

Nor am I overly writing Hodges off for this. I don't think it's that serious. But like Tallis was, he's a senior player and should know better.

In a beaten side v Melbourne Storm in 2007 he got motm, he was outstanding and sensational in attack and defence. icon_thumbs_u Every game he mas moments where you see him do things nobody else does, and when he can string those moments together he is untouchable and sensational to watch, which is why everyone loves him.

Also, he loves his footy and it comes across in the way he plays. icon_thumbs_u

I must be nobody then, because I don't love him. I hate the way he carries on and always have.

Since 2006 he's been going downhill IMHO.

Sorry, I should've worded it "why everyone who loves him, loves him" which is what I meant.

I have a high tolerance for players like Hodges. I like to see a big of mongrel and arrogance on the field.

That's quite clear in your professed man love for another player.

No matter how good a player is, the referee is in charge of the game and deserve to be respected.

I feel especially bad for the kids who feel that it's normal to abuse and disrespect the Ref like that. Players should go through their captain to speak to the ref, just like when the ref calls out the captain to warn their players about something.

I agree 2 weeks is harsh, but I think he should be a better role model for the younger footy players.

The Broncos are set to fight a contrary conduct charge against fiery centre Justin Hodges at tonight's NRL judiciary.

He is facing a two-match ban for making an "up yours" gesture with his fist from their weekend blitz of Canberra - and could be stood down for Saturday's Mt Smart bash with the Warriors.

Skipper Steve Price is not worried either way.

Just thought it was funny.

Johns was sent packing for abusing an official and I suspect Hodges will cop the same fate. Although I'm bemused that Gallen didn't serve time for pulling at the referee's jumper. That IMO is far more serious and to suspend Hodges for making a gesture would support the Broncos view of inconsistency so I can understand why they are fighting the charge.

Hodges needs to take a good long look at himself. I thought he forfeited the future captaincy with his cheap shot on Piggy a couple of months back. This only confirms my suspicions he would not make a good captain. He clearly loves the club but he's shown this season he has no way of dealing with his frustrations on the field.

While a suspension would be terribly inconsistent I wouldn't be that upset if he was found guilty. You can't show disrespect to the official and I'm starting to get a feeling the NRL will look to make an example of him.

Johns called the touch judge and ref an f'n c. I think that beats what Hodgo did by about 1000%.

i wouldn't have a problem with him facing to weeks for what he did as long as everyone who makes a disrespectful (or obscene) gesture towards the referee or touches the ref in any way. unfortunately, that has been going on all year, but Hodges is the first play to get charged

Refs have also got to earn the respect of players as well. It has all become to friendly out in the middle.
Why hasn't someone been charged with putting their arm on the refs shoulder when chatting to him or patting him on the bum?
Another annoying thing is captains and players walking off the field at half time discussing the game with the ref.
2wks is a joke.
Ref deserved it anyhow [icon_wink

If two weeks is what it takes for Hodges to realise he needs to get the bullshit out of his game.. then I'm all for it. After all that's what a suspension is for. He will think twice about backchatting a referee next time..

What's wrong with the captain discussing issues at half time? That'd seem a logical break in play to me, an ideal time to ask questions about various interpretations and issues during the game so far.

I agree that players shouldn't be approaching, but the captain should be within his rights.
