Josh McGuire - Backrow

Yes, well Oates isn't a prop now is he.

Which is the point I'm making. I don't see the point in playing three front rows, especially with a player of Oates' ability just waiting around. I see big things in him, he deserves more of an opportunity, not less.

I agree, I'd love to see him getting more game time. It's almost time to cut Glenn loose.

Thaiday's contract is up next year, you certainly wouldn't be giving him an upgrade. Hannant reportedly WB likes, but still at 500K, he's not worth it....he's up for renewal next year.

I think there's more room in that cap then you think, if we start running a broom through the dead wood.

Yep, which was my original point. Unless you're willing to part with members in the squad, there isn't enough room for Kasiano.

Then again, I don't want Kasiano back at the Broncos. Nothing about his game really impresses me and I thought he was overrated in 2012 when he was useful.

Imagine a pack of (minus hooker):

James Graham
Matt Scott
Sam Burgess
SBW
Corey Parker

What a wealth of opportunities for 2nd phase plays - for the halves, and the support runners.

McGuire is essential to the Broncos. He makes great metres and tackles well. Imagine what a forward he could be if he would regularly use the ball at least half as much as he uses his body.

Guess you can't have everything, but then, I am not complaining about him. I think Josh is a very good prop and given his game, that's where he belongs.

Pity they did away with the All-Stars game, only for this reason. Would have been good to see that forward pack play together.

*sigh* All Stars never really had much of a chance, did it?

Too many big names dogged it and the teams didn't really try to play entertaining footy, rather they just tried to win making for some pretty one-sided and boring games.

Still not sold on the 9s concept.

What's the solution then...a pre-season cup in regional areas again?

I actually was a fan of the all-stars game. I'm passionate about celebration of Aboriginals in the game and sport in general and reconciliation. It was always more of a celebration than a true hard game and giving the fans a say. I went to the last one and loved it.

I'd be open to just televising the trial games. They're already played in regional and expansion areas and they'd provide plenty of interest while people get bored of whatever limited overs cricket is being played.

Hannant is off contract this year and there is no way he will get a new contract here for 500k

Back at the Broncos? I was unaware he was ever with us.....

Surprised you don't see the potential with him TBH. He's a giant....he's mobile......great hands. OK work rate in attack

......his defence could do with some work, fitness also needs work. I think Brisbane are the sort of club that could take his game to the next level.

The Bulldogs looked like a different team when Kasiano was on the field. I think he would be great for us. Wont happen though.

but yeah probably not going to be a true all stars as usual.

Frustrates the shit out of me knowing the Broncs are playing somewhere but I still have to wait a month or more to actually see them in action...

Considering the rumours abut what happened between Barba and Kasiano, I don't think it would be a good move for team cohesion at the very least

We brought him over when he was 15, it didn't work out and the Dogs pinched him. That's why he was eligible for Queensland.

I see the potential, I just don't see the value. He's like another Eastwood, Mateo, Inu type of player. Capable, but never consistent and their off games are woeful.

I missed that announcement.

Terrible idea to have both it and the Auckland 9s.

It didn't work out and should have just been laid to rest.

I don't really know where to put this but this is a nice video about Josh.

Now that McGuire has had a couple of runs in a fair dinkum game(s) what do people think of his efforts ? I dare say WB would have watched the games to see how his troops are going and maybe McGuire caught his eye. Earlier I called for him to drop back to second row but mostly that was dreaming of using him somewhere in the team while Parker was playing the lock role. What made me think of using him that way was because ideally we'd start games with a couple of heavyweights in the front row, Kennedy and Hannant and then use the rest of the forwards as seen fit. The more I thought about it and the more posts I read about McGuire at lock and Parker up front made me realise that lock forward was a better place for McGuire......I may still be way off base !

Whilst I never thought McGuire was appropriate at second row I think Lock is a potentially excellent position for him. However, with players like Arrow emerging, our strength of depth in second rowers and lack of props, it may not be the best for the team.

Dunno, I think whilst Parker is in the team that he'll be our best option at Lock, but if we can sign or develop a couple of props within the next couple of years, I'd be fine with McGuire moving to Lock when Parker retires.
