PRE-GAME Round 8 - Rabbitohs vs Broncos

As last week demonstrated, having a back on the bench can be invaluable with Mead denying the Titans at the death.

I'm surprised more coaches haven't adopted that tactic. I remember a Panthers/Souths game recently where Souths really needed to hook Burns but had to keep him on because they had nobody on the bench to replace him with.

With the right selection and strategy it does have merit, Back in the 90's you would see sides carry backs on the bench and when the unlimited interchange came in you saw big winger/centres such as our own Michael Hancock on the bench who could also play in the backrow.

Well we better be on our game and score a few more tries than Souths because Milford isn't going to kick many goals and Reynolds has only missed 1 all season.

Is RLL3 any good?
tread with extreme caution, i bought the game and was disappointed by it.

the game mechanics are very buggy, you will play forward passes/run out of bounds/give away offside penalties without even trying to.

Tbf, they've only scored about 7........

It's not much different with the Broncos. We haven't been much better.

Broncos have scored 22 tries this season.
Rabbitohs have scored 20 tries this season.

Kahu has kicked 18 from 23 goals.
Reynolds has kicked 19 from 20 goals.

Quite a few of those were from the sideline, as well.

If the forwards (including the bench) can play big minutes, a backline player on the bench can certainly come in handy if necessary.
On the other hand, I'm not sure we really need a back on the bench, given we do have Glenn, whom can cover a centre position at a pinch...

Actually this might work if Opacic comes back, with having a back on the bench Moga would be perfect. He can play as a forward and a fill in.

Not if we score all our tries under the posts ;)

The only place Moga is perfect for is reserve grade.
As much as I like giving everyone a fair go, if he doesn't aim up tomorrow night, then needs to be thrown under the bus.

So despite Moga having never played in the forwards in his entire life and struggling with confidence and form, you think it's a good idea to chuck him into the pack just to enable him to secure a spot on the bench in front of the plethora of specialist forwards waiting in the wings?

You can't just throw a bloke in the forwards when he has never played there.

Playing in the forwards is not an easy job. You're doing 3 times the amount of work than what you are in the backs.

Right now Moga can't even handle centre defensively. He won't last 5 minutes in the forward pack. He will not have the same impact in the forwards. It just doesn't work that way.

With a full pre-season making the switch, perhaps. But even then it will take him time to adjust to the role and be able to handle it every week.

The only player that probably could do it is Oates. Because he has played in the forwards plenty of times and even he will take time to adjust. Although time will tell whether his time there will shorten his career because he was injured quite a bit.

I don't understand why moga didn't get a run at half back when hunt got injured. That way you could play all our recruits!

Seems plausible

Need to put serious, consistent and constant pressure on Reynolds. Hopefully it's Gillett that sits him on his arse before he kicks and then forces the pass. Bottle up Reynolds and his kicking game and we run rampant. Even Moga.
