The Gillett Sin Bin

I haven't watched a replay but I could have sworn i heard someone yell out "bin him?" "Yeah" or something like that. But clear enough for it to have been two refs discussing it immediately after the tackle, not just stray Dragons players.

I'm sure I heard this on the Triple M audio too. It sounded like two refs discussing which player to bin out of Thaiday or Gillett, and then the commentators discussed the fact that Thaiday was going to be binned.

What really, really pisses me off is that commentators don't make a big enough deal about it. I know 9 had words, but they should have been disgusted. Not "clanger" it should have been "disgrace".

Triple M boys just laughed it off as being "rugbly league". They're meant to be a voice for the game, they should be going mental about this sort of thing, and making sure the fans know that it isn't acceptable, so then they can be disgusted too.

But laughing it off makes it all look like a small problem.

even if gillett WAS offside at the time the tap was taken the play had advanced 40 odd metres up the field putting EVERYONE onside regardless.

it is deadset the worst call i've ever seen.

can anyone tell me what the hell is hte point of having a second ref if he isnt going to step in there?

why is the nrl so pig headed that they think they cant reverse the sin bin or at least stop for 30 seconds to review it? the video ref reviews some of hte most ridiculous things in our game week in week out yet such an embarassing and CRUCIAL decision is apparently untouchable?

whole thing makes me furious. other codes must love the way our sport is shot in its foot by the games leaders.

So tackling a player normally from an onside position is sin binnable but tripping someone or spear tackling is ok?

your a lienient judge ... why let him off so easily?

that call should be referred straight to the judiciary, where they adjuicate for about a second then punt him for good

True Foordy. True. A moment of weakness. Nashy was right on the money.

How about this:

Gillett (to Cummins): "Why?"
Cummins: "Magic - I'm practising for my new job"
Gillett: "What?"
Cummins:" I hold up 2 hands and players like you disappear"

You know, if we make some noise, the refs might actually go easier on us next round, where we'll really need them to.

Two things about your post. Firstly, there is truth in the statement . Secondly, it's sickening to know that the referees are anything but impartial. The mere fact that your statement is true should be a matter of utter shame.

It's a possibility Cummins got Gillett and McCullough mixed up. McCullough was one of the players offside when Marshall took the quick tap.

They both wear the same color boots and have a similar build. Perhaps he thought that was Gillett.

Apparently, Cummins sent a representative of the refs up to Griffin to apologize. The gutless **** couldn't do it himself.

It could have cost us our season: Griffin - NRL.com

How can you confuse Gillett and McCullough they look completely different. Puss behaviour from Cummins there, weakling not standing up and taking responsibility.

These are full time professional refs, not some public servant doing it for the love of it on a weekend. Cummins needs to do time for such a howler.

I was screaming at the tv. Horrible decision. Saying it almost cost us our season is a bit rich coming from hook though.

The consecutive penalties for no apparent reason were far more disgraceful, and point to people in high places colluding with refs to bring teams back into 'contests' for ratings sake. You kind of expect refs to be inept after this year (although not that pathetic), but the back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-... penalties drive me crazy. The same thing happened with Cronulla, a game which probably cost us our season.

You won't hear that being mentioned in the media, although Gould did allude to it last night when he mentioned the refs opening the gate for the Dragon or something along those lines.

EDIT: Channel nine is a disease, and the quicker they are gotten rid of in the next TV deal the better.
