Time for Milford to go

He played for North’s this weekend and went well. Couple of really nice touches. Short ball for Taga to score and a nice short kick for Murphy to score.

Taggers made a nice line break before his own try too and he'd just come on. Instant impact.

When was the last time we kicked to our giant winger from inside the opposition 20? Every team does it but we'd rather grubber and not give ourselves a chance. It's ridiculous

Since he's wanted to be in the second row, have you noticed he's rarely anywhere near his wing? Gives me the shits.

To be clear, I have as much inside info as our halves do try assists.........but here's a theory

In sport I believe that confidence in yourself and belief from your coach is essential

If you have it you don't always succeed - you still need talent after all - but without it you will almost always not succeed

I also believe that Wayne is more knowledgeable than I am when it comes to league

So what if Wayne knows what we all do, that it's unlikely Kodi is going to cut it at 7, but for whatever reason he is the only option we have right now?

Therefore Wayne also knows the only chance we have of Kodi doing anything good is to give him confidence and publicly back him

But the reality is that while he is saying "Kodi is our 7" to Kodi and the public, he is really working his arse off behind the scenes looking for our next real 7?

Zero try assists that’s just fucking sad.

Just shows how bad we r going and we have pretty much been in every game bar the dragons. Would love to see a half on the bench and taga in for sims.
I think it is to early for drastic changes , confidence is definitely a big issue.

Couldn't he have done that last year?

Yeah i think your spot on. I also believe he wants our 7 to be in house, so a stop gap option is needed.
It's just a theory but we have some good halves coming through and not much on the market.

I watched the game last night. And found Brown's comments afterwards somewhat startling. I recall a few years back when WB was taking over St. George after Brown had left it in a mess. Brown was getting bagged all over the media and WB seemed to be the only one who came out and publicly supported him. What WB said about the situation at Newcastle was completely misconstrued by Browny and he should be ashamed of what he said. If WB was a Sydney born coach he would be totally untouchable and Brown would have been hounded to with in an inch of his life for daring to impugn the credibility of a living legend.
As far as the team goes, we are getting there. let's not forget we lost two mainstays in the pack in Blair and Ese Ese. Add to this Macca is just coming back from a serious injury and the rest of the pack is either on their way out or on their way in (not to mention the hellfire Lodge has had to endure). It means it will take some time to get the pack working as a cohesive unit. Only then will the backs be able to function properly. As for the backs, Boyd is slowly recovering from busted hammies, Bird is trying to get match fit and work out what his role is and if that was not enough the halves coach ups and leaves after four weeks. All things considered we are actually doing OK to have two wins on the board.

I look at the likes of Parra and Storm and think we are so much further down the road to coming up with a team that will be able to play a bit. And there is the final point - a team. In order to have a team you need the proper support. That means the boys need to be encouraged and egged on to improve as they seek to find cohesion and confidence. If any of them took a look at the gloom and doom some folks write on here they'd give it away tomorrow.

I'm sick of watching the dross they are dishing up each week at the moment, but I can see a number of reasons why it is happening. I'm happy to stick by them as they are my team through the good and the bad times. The Southern press are having a field day at the mo watching elements of the the fan base implode. The feeding frenzy reached it's peak when Browny came out with that low, gutter type snark. Back tracking and pretending the 'little head and the big head' metaphor was misunderstood made it even worse. For mine, what was said, and what was not said to condemn it was beyond the pale by the Southerners, that remark will come back to haunt them come September.

Brown did not leave the Dragons in a mess. The reason Bennett went to St George is because they had a great squad.

So how many time did that 'great squad' make the finals or win a GF while Brown was in charge?

Hang on, are you suggesting that Bennett might say something different to the public and also believes it is detrimental to publicly bag a player killing whatever confidence he has left? Crazy theory...

2008 (7th) - Finals 1st round.
2007 (13th)
2006 (6th) - Prelim.
2005 (2nd) - Prelim.
2004 (5th) - Finals 1st round.
2003 (10th)
I'm sure you'll agree it's not exactly enthralling for a 'great squad'. Anyway that is besides the point. The point I was making was he was being bagged left right and centre by the media, and as I recall the fan base had had enough of him and were screaming for his head. Bennett when quizzed on Browny put his neck out and stood up for the young coach at the time.

Thanks Nathan, probably best to start thinking about the Storm next week though.
Sorry? As I said, I'm new to the forum and maybe am not privy to some inside jokes or sarcasm. What do you mean?

As for Milford, he is a good (not great) ball runner and a shocking playmaker. Right now the team is in dire need of a playmaker and as Milford is the half on huge money, he has to do much better regardless of the ability of the halfback. Until he does or until the team has an outstanding halfback who can cover for Milfords total lack of playmaking ability, I will continue to be critical of him.

But it's just my opinion. Unless you and some other posters have some personal stake in Milfords contract and/or performance, there is really no reason for little snide, sarcastic or outright hostile replies.

I think yours is a combination of those 3 but I'm not sure.

Bird is pretty handy under the high ball as well, for being a unit. Now that they're both in the team and fit I'm hoping we do start targeting that left side a lot more with bombs, it's gotta be one of our highest percentage plays now.
Once Kahu is back, he is certainly one to target in attack as well.

The problem is attacking kicks require accuracy our halves haven't had since 2013 (except perhaps Benji), and can easily end in 7 tackle sets for the opposition.
Milford might get there eventually, given his kicking has been progressing (slowly), but without a good kicker in the team, it's a tactic which could cause more harm than good...
