NEWS Wests Tigers set to pounce on Broncos star Anthony Milford: Report

To be honest I even hate the Haas contract. He's worth much, much more than we are paying him. He's got 4 more years to sit back and watch complete numpties get paid more than him while he becomes spiteful against the club. We need to upgrade his deal the moment itbecomes feasible if we want to keep him longterm.

For that reason, i would probably be offering approx 800k next contract and allow him to explore his options if he was not agreeable.

This is the correct approach. Critcisim of Milf has been a little harsh, he's been the only playmaker behind a slug of a dummy half and his kicking game was probably one of the best in the comp by the end of the year. His passing game is still ordinary, and I would expect better of a million dollar player.

I think we should avoid playing 1M+ for any player, unless truly exceptional.

But when we do lose those players... Surely we'll only be left with the guns that were born with winning personalities.

Haas, Staggs, Fifita etc are born winners.
Will still have Isaako, Ofa, Milford who are quite the opposite at times. That 2015 team is just as cursed as the '08 NYC team

This is why we need to be able to pay win bonuses.

Nah.
I don't mean nobody wants to, but from the outside looking in it looks like he has no clue at all and so far he's only brought in a guy who failed a mormon mission, a NSW Cup player, a barista and a guy that had a dumb clause in his contract to return. It's obvious that all of the Storm, Manly and Rabbitohs players he's been involved with before don't want a bar of him. Also you only responded to one of the reasons we will find it difficult to bring good players to the club.

Give me a reason to be positive about the club and I'll be positive about it. Haven't had any positives since Haas was signed to a long deal.
Rhys Kennedy, Richie Kennar, Jesse Arthurs, Segeyaro were all good cheap signings that have not caused issues with the cap. Kahu they tried to offload but were required to take back becuase of a contract signed before he arrived.

How is it obvious former players don't want a bar of him? Arthurs Kennar and Kennedy all came here after being coached by him. I believe he attended Damien Cook's wedding and gets on with lots of the players at the Rabbitohs. There are always a portion of players that won't like a coach. That's true for every coach.

Isaako plays well when he's not being brought down by the current Broncos culture. The sort of player that'd look twice his current worth once playing for a good team.

Ofa was in his peak in under 20's, have been waiting for him to find that form since he made his debut.

Milford just looks like he doesn't care.. always...

the youth brigade are 1 year further into know whats required week in week out in the NRL.
Yes, even if we had the exact same squad we will go better next year. We have lots of young players who will be better and a better preseason. Roster problems are still there but its not all doom and gloom

Good cheap signings or average, basically worthless signings who had no other options?

Yeah because culture makes you forget how to catch a ball

Why hate it. We paid him 700k a season on like 1 game of first grade. We took the punt and it paid off. Its not like he is earning 150k for the next 4 years. It was a gamble that we look like winning finally. 700k is pretty good for a top end prop.

That 15 team was pretty much the 08 NYC team though

He didn't really have much room to wiggle with the begin with though. We would have lynched him had he lost Oates, TPJ, Turpin & Lodge who were all due for upgraded deals this year. (plus a few more youngsters he re-signed long term)I'm willing to give him another year only due to the fact that his hands have been tied with the salary cap in one sense but should start to clear up next year.

Don’t be so reasonable.

You should know by now; anything less than Siebold re-signing every good player we have, getting rid of every dud on our books and signing all the best players in each position, regardless of whether they’re available or not, all in his first year no less, is simply unacceptable.

Milf has to take a fair bit of responsibility as well. He trains well enough, but he just does whats required of him. He doesnt put in a lot of extra work. Be interesting to see how he comes back fitness wise after the break. Its things like his nutrition as well. I do know he drinks way too much soft drink for example. Thats something he could knock on the head.
In his defence though, and it's still slack of him, but it would be hard to be motivated to do extras when you have people in the team that do fucking nothing each week.

Like put yourself in his shoes. He's got a good contract so he isn't gonna get a big upgrade or anything, and seeing people like Boyd get picked when they shouldn't be in the squad at all, it would be hard to be motivated. Why try your guts out, when you need to carry two or three blokes every weekend. It would be fucking exhausting.

I can't believe the shallow analysis of Milford's form here.

I'll make one point - the performance of any member of the spine is dependent on all others. Why? Because the defence TARGETS playmakers.

For many games this year, Milford was the only true playmaker on the field. Boyd - nup. McCullough - nup. Turpin - not a halfback. So oppositions knew that Milford would be the kicker or the go-to man on the last two tackles.

This is too much responsibility for one player - kicker, playmaker and expected to make three line breaks in a game. It's not going to happen.

Return Milford to No. 6. Have a spin of quality (good fullback, Deardon and Turpin) - and watch Milford's form return.
Exactly. I made the comparison to the Cowboys pre Michael Morgan. Even with JT they didn't make the 8 most years. All the teams with only one real play maker struggle. Titans with Ash Taylor in 2018, Tigers with Luke Brookes, cowboys with Michael Morgan, Bulldogs with Foran, us with Milford.

All the teams that were consistently good have a stable spine. Excluding Milford, no one else in our spine would be picked for any other team in the comp (with Turpin at 7).

Storm, Roosters, Raiders, Manly, Parra, Rabbitohs etc all have at least 2, usually 3 or 4 solid spine players. We had 1, and for the first half of the season he was being made to be a halfback when he isn't one, and the second half he was made to be a fullback.

It's ridiculous

The talk about Milford needing a halves partner. This year he didn't have a fullback, halves partner or a hooker lol.

Like look at our spine... The only player who MIGHT have been able to carry that fucking shit show is Cooper Cronk. We had fucking nothing lol.

Boyd was by far the worst fullback in the comp. By literal miles. Half the Qcup and nswcup fullbacks were better. Then Turpin although he tried, was the worst 7 in the comp by a long way, and Macca, in terms of attack, was also probably the worst hooker. So honestly how could Milford carry that lol. No one could
