In Bradbury's case, the idea of the sport is to be quickest across the line and the quickest way to get across the line is to stay on your bloody feet. And Begg-Smith CHOSE us - he CHOSE to stay out of the sport completely for three years so he could compete for us.

Begg-Smith's sourpuss face was just as bad IMO.

I rarely agree with Peter Fitzsimons, the communal bathing, rugby union loving twat, but he's on the money with this.

No, it is probably because his whole schtick all seems so ruthlessly joyless. He is infamous for offering monosyllabic answers to journalists. And even in victory, or near victory, he offers nothing. To see him on the podium, between a wildly celebrating American and Canadian, while he looked like he had just sucked on a lemon, was to cringe. All of it might be forgivable if there was the slightest sense he has more than a walnut's worth of feeling for his adopted country.

I am, you are, he says he is, Australian. And of course he has had an Australian passport for six years, since earlier falling out with his native Canadian team - though he still lives in Vancouver. But in all those monosyllabic grunts, it has been hard to ignore gaining the feeling that he couldn't give a flying fig for Australia, and is simply flying a flag of convenience. If he doesn't care for us, why should we care for him? I don't.

So he's not emotional? Who cares? He is who he is and people react to situations in different ways. A lot of State of Origin and International League players don't sing the national anthem, you going to call them unAustralian as well?

That just shows how little Fitzsimmons knows. The amount of work Dale Begg-Smith has put in to developing the Australian Winter Olympics program - not just moguls but others sport as well - is astounding, especially for someone who is a still currently competing athlete. If he didn't give a fig about Australia, then he would purely and simply focus on doing just what he has to do for his own success - as so many sportspeople do across pretty much every sport. Wouldn't have taken Fitzsimmons any more research than 1 phone call to the AOC or Ski and Snow Australia to find that out - but no it's easier to just take pot-shots than to actually find out some facts.

And as for him "living in Vancouver" FFS - pretty much no Winter Athlete spends more than a max of 2/3 months in Australia a year, because - oh yeah we don't have any bloody snow!!!! In fact most Australian athletes in international sports don't LIVE in Australia because it simply isn't practical.

And maybe he looked so pissed off on the podium because he loves Australia so much he was disappointed that he didn't get the Gold for his country. The thing is none of us knows what was going through his mind at the time and none of us know his true personality - there are a lot of people in this world who just don't show emotion publically.

Seriously I am sick and tired of Australian's having to put people down all the time instead of celebrating their success.

He trains at Perisher when they have their snow season and has had citizenship since 2003.

I read somewhere that he could afford five-star accommodation anywhere he goes, but chooses to stay in the same hotel/igloo as his fellow competitors wherever he goes. He's a real down to earth bloke I reckon icon_thumbs_u
