NEWS Walters Steps Down

Wayne was a lot younger then, and still had a ripe love for the game and a desire to achieve in it. I hope he still has that today, but judging his body language at pressers and in the box these days it feels like he's shoring up the retirement fund moreso than anything else.

How has his body language changed?

As some people have said it makes you wonder if there is truth to the Green to Broncos rumours.

I find it hard to believe that Walters all of a sudden realised that it would be too much work. I also find it hard to believe that he didn't realise Wayne is inflexible having known him for so long.

Given the ultimatum the Cowboys have given Green it appears they have genuine concerns he is going to take the Brisbane job and are relying on the fact that signing a 3 year contract would rule him out of the Broncos gig.

For Walters to pull up stumps like this it makes you wonder if he thought he was the heir apparent and was made aware that Green is going to get the HC gig and he is pretty disillusoned. It is no secret that Kevvie wants an NRL HC gig and I would assume the Broncos would be his first choice. With Wayne so close to retirement, or at least moving out of the HC role it makes no sense for him to leave, workload or not otherwise. I mean, imagine you are an executive for a company you want to be in charge of and are the 'heir apparent'. The CEO is just about done and moving into retirement so you just have to wait it out, it would be hard to believe that you would jump ship because your workload is a bit much or the CEO is a bit controlling. Unless you found out that they had decided to go with an outside hire for the next CEO.

Agreed.

I can't see Walters ever coming back to the broncos after this.

But seriously, who is gonna teach milf and kodi how to run a football team?

No one thats why we need someone else in the 7 . What we need to teach is a deep attacking structure to give milf and roberts more room .

Broncos probably swore an oath they would never again put someone in the HC role that hadn't done it in the NRL before. Maybe one day there will be a coaching job for him here but he has to go and prove himself somewhere else.

Just listened to "The Big Breakfast" where they spoke to Kevvie this morning..
I don't buy the fact he has stepped down due to Origin and Fox commitments..He explained that he thought it was only fair that he stood down from the assistant role at the Broncos because he had taken the Origin and Fox jobs on prior to reuniting with the Broncos, hence the Broncos gig was the first one to step away from..
I think Green must be all but a done deal, chuck in the fact the Cows have now said to him take it or leave it with their 3yr extension..
Or, it could be the whole Ash Taylor situation again where the Broncos are potentially getting too far ahead of themselves, putting all their eggs in one basket and then loose out on what they thought they were going to get.

Definitely need a new 7. Problem though - all the decent halfbacks signed new contracts for this year and all of the halfbacks coming off contract at the end of this season are pretty rubbish.

Trent Hodkinson (Cronulla), Benji Marshall (Tigers), Brock Lamb (Knights), Ryley Jacks (Storm), Kane Elgey (Titans), Matt Frawley (Bulldogs), Adam Doueihi (Rabbitohs), Jackson Hastings (Manly)
Lachlan Croker (Manly), Mitch Cornish (Roosters), Lachlan Lam (Roosters), Kyle Laybutt (Cowboys).

Hard to see any of them being the controlling long-term halfback we need.

Seriously, leave the calls for Wayne's head on facebook posts and the general knee jerk reaction trash that populate every sports teams facebook page.

As for Nikorima, he has hardly stunk up the joint nor set the world alight. Without forwards making quick play the balls, it's impossible to make space for our more outside men. Yes his kicking game is questionable at times but it's 4 games in and he's been on par so far without being exceptional.

Both of our losses most of our forwards have looked completely uninterested and had dick fingers.

I agree for the most part, but our backs haven't been any better. Isaako and Pearson both had stinkers last week, not to mention Boyd, Jimmy and Bird who were not very involved. It's easy for people to single out Sammy, Sims, Boyd and Nico (seem to be the current scapegoats), but the whole team is playing pretty poorly imo.

Having said that, Boyd and Sammy are senior players and should be leading from the front which isn't happening. It's also hard to blame the coach for drop ball, it's not like he should need to coach how to catch at this point of their careers. Maybe that is what this team needs though, send them to practice some basics with the under 6's and get some perspective and a new attitude.

Like my Mum used to tell me, 'Go run around the block and don't come back until you lose that attitude.'........20 yrs later and I still haven't gone home :P

Might be time to blood a junior.

This is getting off topic, not just yourself but i keep seeing other post this kinda idea and its grinding on me. Its not a personal attack on you.

Niko has hardly stunk it up?! Even Milf has stunk it up. They are halves...their job is to organise and steer. Their job is to plan and attack. They've done none of that. They should be barking at the forwards along with the captain. This direction, that direction, short side, open side, run towards X player, kick down past X player, kick in the air to X player, i want space here, i want space there, run opposite side here, inside there, run wide here, give protection to kick in 2 tackles etc etc.

Forwards typically aren't thinkers....they run to direction from the halves, their responsibility is go forward to the strategy of the havles. If they don't know what the halves want - we get what we've been getting. Forwards will be stuck at 5/8 on the 5th, forwards will be stuck taking single out hitups on the 4th, stuck kicking on the last, they will run to no set direction, players wont be targeted and field position wont be made for an ideal kick to end the set.

This is not junior or Sunday footy where the coach has a set schedule that everyone knows for every play, NRL requires live changes and halves steering the boat on the run to an overall strategy. Des Hasler implemented Sunday junior footy spec and look how predictable they were.

See my point yet? Kodi and Milf need to be on board, and macca needs to know what they are thinking. In that specific order, otherwise the tail will chase the head during the game.

Everything you say is true but you seemed to be the one who missed the point of the post above due to your hatred of Kodi for some reason. Of course your halves should be doing that and look at what Kodi and Milf were able to do against the Cows when the forwards were...you know...going forward.

You CANNOT blame the halves for the forwards dropping the ball every second run, what can ANYONE do on the back of that?

No hatred of Kodi here. Just stating the blatant obvious.

Im willing to be team moral is shit because theres zero direction. Drop balls and stupid errors come from lack of enthusiasm, pressure and not the right focus.

Ha ha, did I just read someone say Wayne Bennett doesn't know what a halfback is? Ha ha.
