OFFICIAL Bellamy extends contract with Melbourne Storm

Whilst i dont mind either way this is going to be what starts happening...

These “reporters” will start saying hes about to sign for brisbane or melbourne and claim an inside scoop and live off it for years if they are right. If they are wrong they will say he was close to signing the other way then changed his mind last second, then never mention it again..

Its a 50/50 shot that is a win/win situation for them. Australian rugby league media, its up there with the cat in the hat in regards to investigative journalism/inside scoops.
I wish players, coaches, and other people in the game would start calling them out more on their lies.

Not that I believe the Mole or necessarily think signing Bellamy is the best move, but either way if the club miss him after all the moves they have made it will be a huge blight on the club and cause a lot of damage.

Why will it be a blight on the broncos? We are the only club in the nrl that could even SUGGEST we could replace the most successful coach in nrl history with the most successful* coach in recent years while he takes a holiday for a year. If we dont get him it aso doesnt change the fact that we are the most successfully run club in the game in every metric immaginable off the field..

Paul white has done a remarkable job in his role, in an incredibly tough period (by our standards) on the field we have risen to once again be the club everyone talks about, envies and claims gets advantages simply because we succesfully utilise and capitilise on our position. The last 3 years we have reclaimed our confident aura we lost in the cullen (by all accounts he was gave our club more arrogance then confidence) years and i love it. The only piece missing is a premiership. Even on the premiership front, im sure if paul white got the job ahead of bruno cullen all those years ago we would not even be talking about a premiership drought

It will be a blight because we have now very publicly for one reason or the other shown we are looking to move on from our current coach. If we don’t get our man now we are stuck with either promoting from within or whatever did coach currently can’t get a gig elsewhere. Essentially we could very well be going back to the Henjak/Griffin days.

There's a big part of me that is happy that Bellyache looks to be not coming, there's another part that is very anxious that we may have just screwed the pooch big time. Bennett can't be happy that the club he helped build tried to offload him in a way that became so public, especially in the twilight of his coaching career. It leaves our coaching situation post 2019 very precarious. If Bennett had any intent of resigning one last time, I doubt that desire hasn't been heavily tarnished by this saga.

So could any other club even entertain the idea of what we are doing? The fact this is even a possibility I think shows how mucuh stronger we are off the field. Kent and co will say its a disaster but having the most successful coach in the history of rugby league as “back up” plan is hardly a blight on the club.. we are just simply prepping for the eventual retirement of bennett. If we dont get bellamy now my guess is we re-sign bennett for 2 more years and get bellamy or the best option available then. The only thing stopping us getting whatever coach we want is that no one is sure if bennett has a few more years in him at the moment...

Entertain the possibility of what? Being used as a bargaining chip to raise his contract at his current club? Not sure and don’t care.

Sorry but that argument is ridiculous.
It'll be flat out embarrassing if we don't get Bellamy. I don't care how "prestige" the options look, it would be utterly disgraceful and embarrassing if Bellamy re-signs with Melbourne. The club has basically went public that we don't think our coach is the best coach to lead us into the future, which is fine IF they actually sign a replacement that's at least of similar or better future value.

That's like any top company saying we think our CEO is too old, we're replacing him with this guy, but he might not even sign with us. Good business should be behind closed doors, not played out in public. The Broncos have always conducted business privately (especially of signings) so it's absurd that this has went so public, and that has to fall on Paul White. It's up to him to conduct signing negotiations with a potential coach without it leaking.

If Bellamy doesn't sign with the Broncos then it will be a disaster for the club and question their ability to recruit the elite.

It would be the second time they have failed to get Bellamy.

I personally don't think bennett should re-sign anyway. The mans in his 70s, achieved everything possible in rugby league. Even if he's still "got it" by the time his contract expires he should retire on top and just go enjoy the rest of his life. I do hope he'll still be involved at the broncos in some way, just not head coach.

It really pains me to say it but I kind of agree with "Lockysillegitimatechild". Though I think he wants everyone to know Benentt is the most successful coach. It will be an embarrassment but it won't be a disaster. It will be interesting on how it effects Bennett and the players knowing he is only there because the club couldn't get Bellamy.

Agree. It's time to move on.

Afternoon reports are saying Storm have put an ultimatum as such on Belly for this week.
