Barba vs Boyd

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Pretty poor point considering he earned those opportunities on the back of his form at fullback.

Not to mention that I'm meant to take it as a negative that a player has played at elite levels in 4 different positions and has the credentials to prove it.

well if we are going by the form of 3 years ago, then Griffin is a good coach ... he took us to within one game of the GF... and it was only a stray knee that kept us out of it ...

and Barba is one of the best most dynamic fullbacks in the game.

People are happy to remember past form when it suits their argument (i.e Boyd) but when it doesn't they'd rather forget it (i.e. Barba)

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

I'm just going to wait until Boyd and Packer sign before giving my thoughts.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Well if Bennett is going to play Boyd at fullback that just tells me he doesn't think both Milford's lack of experience and defence can cut it throughout an entire season.

Pretty damning observation of Griffin's legacy.

As a former coach of this club and a former coach of teams who played against Henjak and Griffin coached teams, I think he is pretty well placed to make such an observation.

Under him we won premierships and were near unstoppable many times. Since then we've mostly been rubbish (by our earlier standards).

Hopefully that changes...

What I'm most looking forward to is the change up in the ridiculous 'cliques' we've all heard about. Time for some of these so-called 'superstars' to start earning their jersey, rather than having it handed to them on a platter regardless of how much they derp it up on the pitch.

But Bennett was adamant Boyd would be fullback if he returned. “They all bring different things but Darius is the best of them all,” he said.

Nice to know you Benny Barba.

Something tells me this isn't going to end well.

I don't think there's any certainty that Boyd will be back, although I'm expecting it. For all anyone knows, he could be keeping the players on their toes and getting them worried about their position in the team. Something that they haven't had to worry about for a while.

Just read another article where Kevin Walters was saying he can't wait to work with Hunt, Barba and Milford, so who knows what's going to happen...

The plot thickens.

I agree, Barba has so much potential it seems a shame to not give him a chance to shine.

I don't think Boyd is a bad player, especially at fullback. Boyd has had some outstanding games at fullback, the GF with the Dragons an example. The issue is we just don't need a high cost fullback with Barba and Milf on the books.

Mate, I've been vocal on here about not needing Boyd and wanting to give Barba an off season at 5/8. It just annoys me how severely people overreact on here.

Re: Brisbane Broncos scrap co-captains

Killing it in attack is fine, what about the other half of the game.

Raiders were complete arse this year so it didn't really figure in the scheme of things but it will for us.

for the last year or 2 Boyd has been poor at both ...

Tend to agree.

While I'm hyped for Milford, he hasn't come close to playing a a big game yet.

It's been all ass rather than class so far.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

...and equally, telling Boyd he's a walk up start at a new club does what exactly for Boyd's levels of complacency?

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

So you honestly think Bennett wanting boyd, not just at the broncos, but at fullback, is not playing favourites, especially considering we have 4 - 5 fullbacks already??

Honestly now...

Haha I feel as though the word fullback is being thrown around pretty loosely lately. We don't have 4-5 fullbacks at the whole club, let alone vying for a spot in the top 25.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Hell, he even struggled in the U20's origin at 6.

That whole QLD team was dominated all over the park. They all struggled. But sure, lets bring up Adams, Molo and Ofahengaue who struggled in the position they've played in for years too. Milfords form at 6 was definitely not as bad as you're making it out to be.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

It's interesting how terrible our fullback of the week is in the game day thread, and how good they all are in this thread.

I'm not sure we need Boyd, but I'll trust the guy who's won 7/7 to know what he's doing.

Geez, I hope Hooks jaw is OK these days. Maybe that's why he doesn't talk much in the post game interviews.

Was any of those as a fullback...?

All this aside though porthoz. It's a good problem to have . we all have our preferred players. I have always rated Boyd. Sorry that he left. Glad he's coming back

he has been to 8 grand finals in the ARL/NRL

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Thanks. Coz there is no fucking way i will stand by a club that shows no respect to the fans by allowing a senile old has-been to play favourites. He is meant to be looking out for the club, not his love child.

Can you imagine if Toovey moved to Wests and signed B Stewart to play fullback and moved Tedesco to the wing? Or if McFadden moved to Souths and signed Nielsen to play centre and moved Walker to the bench? Its ludicrous, and no club with any shred of dignity would stand by and let it happen. Bennett is not the broncos. He is not bigger than the broncos. Yet the club let him run the place.

you huff and puff and pop a vein about things that are completely and utterly subjective like they're black and white and anyone who disagrees is a fucken moron... Take a deep breath or three and back the F up..believe it or not the bloke in charge of the broncos knows what he's doing and has some premierships to prove it..
