Time for Milford to go

This is what Gower said after he signed with the Knights. I don't know how Bennett organised a back ended or over-valued contract for him that quickly. Also he was signed as a replacement for injured Gidley and old Buderus.

‘‘I asked for a release here and Wayne got in contact with my manager and I got a text from him yesterday morning, so I had Wayne’s number and gave him a call and everything’s gone pretty quickly after that,’’ Gower said. ‘‘I only spoke to Wayne yesterday, I secured the release here last night and pretty much that was it"

I could but why would I bother?

i figured that since you claim they are all too expensive and too long, you would know the exact details of the contracts (not just speculation like the media) ... so why don't you share the love.

p.s. i'm pretty sure those Knights players you mentioned were all only signed for 1 year not 4

I guess it wasn't him but his manager. How many games did he play for Newcastle?

If you don't want to believe what is common knowledge and openly stated by pretty much everyone who is asked except for Bennett himself, good for you. It's not my responsibility to convince you otherwise.

Buderus and Gutherson are two more that come to mind. Seriously, to sign so many veterans, some of whom evidently were no longer first grade standard (see Gower), was ridiculous! What he is doing now isn't as bad but at this time, it seems he has done the same thing with Boyd and is massively overpaying Milford and Bird.

I'm sorry, this is a load of shit. You might as well start believing everything the media tells you, because you've just lapped up some pretty specific revisionist history.

I don't know how many times we need to go over it, but here are your answers:

* Milford & Hunt were going fantastic, they were going to be our long term halves. No club can carry a gun first-grade-spec half as a backup, and that's what Taylor was going to be. So despite Kodi & Jayden not being ready for consistent first grade, they're the exact type that clubs need for depth.

* Boyd did go down injured in 2015. This isn't a theoretical. Kahu filled in really well. That answers that one.

* Same again, Macca did get injured at times in the last few years. When Milford & Hunt were the halves, we had a decent backup in Waddell, and then later Kodi handled it.

Can people please stop with this shit? It's been done, and the history stands. Rewriting it because people want to blame Bennett & Boyd is just dumbfuckery.

Even in "15 there was glaring deficiencies in our halves. Decisions needed to be made, as it turns out the wrong ones. Taylor was regarded as one of the best natural halves to come through our system, even blind freddy could see we were missing that since locky.

Every club in the NRL would pay big money for Milford.
Really? Maybe if they had an outstanding playmaking halfback and didn't need Milford to do any playmaking or were playing him at fullback. I think we can agree that his price tag has gone down over the past year. No way in the world would anyone swap him for Morgan, for example and as far as I know, Milford is on almost as much or more money. .

6. But he was signed as a reserve to cover for old and injured players. There's no way he was on a big contract.

it isn't common knowledge it is speculation ...

take Bird for example ... so far the media have reported 4 different values for his contract. Initially it was 750k, then it be came 1 million, later it became 1.2 million ... currently sitting at 800k. so please tell me if is is such common knowledge why have the media kept changing his value ...

I'm sure you'll pick the value that suits your agenda best, just like the media always do ... doesn't make it common knowledge though

The Knights' system was filled with players who were very talented yet still very raw. That team needed experienced old heads there. None of the ones he signed were on big money or long term contracts, they were simply solid first-graders who Bennett could rely upon to do their jobs.

Boyds new deal was signed a day after Taylor re-signed with the Titans. Milfords was signed in May and Hunt signed with the Dragons in January. Milfords massive chunk of the salary cap didn't give us a chance to sign Taylor (Or any other halfback for that matter), not Boyd, not Hunt.

Birds contract probably didn't help either but I have a feeling he's going to be our fullback once Boyd retires.

When will Boyd retire? Will bird wait 4 years to play fullback?

I know, but he's a big strong runner and he's played in the halves so he could be a ball playing fullback too. I just think the media has been way off with everything about him so far and I can't see an actual replacement for Boyd yet

6? Really? Not saying you are wrong but I'm interested to know what your sources are? I don't mean 18th man or playing for Newcastles feeder club. See my reply to Morkel.

IMO that lower figure of 750k for Bird is way too much. So far I am right. Hopefully he will start proving me wrong soon. It's probably something like 800k in the cap and then TPAs. According to Zero tackle it's 1m a year: https://www.zerotackle.com/rugby-league/teams/brisbane-broncos/

Right. Who were these phantom "very talented but very raw" Knights players? Except for Matatui and he is overrated regardless. One would think he wouldn't have signed Gower if there really were lots of "very talented but very raw" Newcastle players.

Unless he picks up a career ending injury, his salary will be counted in the cap. Same thing happened at Manly with Stewart and... that Kiwi centre whose name I can't recall. Ditto at Parra with Watmough. Their injuries were far more severe than a suspect hamstring but the NRL refused to write them out of the cap.
